Over the years, Jack O’Riley has shown zero interest in me aside from our friendship. Even when I tried to tell him how I felt four years ago…

That’s how I ended up dating his best friend, but now three years later, that’s over and Jack’s following me on a London sidewalk, asking me for just one date.

I mean, what’s the worst that could happen?

The heat in his eyes and the way I’ve always felt ‘seen’ by him, has me agreeing, even when I know I should say no.

But then our one date leads to more and to protect myself I say something that’s not true. After all, what can a woman like me offer a man who has everything?

KA James has done it again! One date is a novella about Sutton and Jack, both of whom we know from the last book “Don’t make promises”. You will definitely enjoy it if you’ve read the rest of the series and if this is your first one, you will want to go back and read them anyway.

There is so much history between those two, so many emotions and so much hesitation that makes you wanna get inside the scenes and bang their heads together until they cut the miscommunication nonsense! It was quite intense and the chemistry was overflowing, I wish it was longer! The writing was even better in this instalment of the series. Looking forward to the next one ☺️

-Dual 1st person POV
-Spice: 🌶️🌶️

Overall: 4.5/5 ⭐️ for me.

I had been waiting for Jack and Sutton's story! This was short, but so good! I devoured it so quickly and loved the writing, it flowed really well.
Jack has had feelings for Sutton for a long time but never acted on it, because they were friends first and he didn't want to mess that up if she didn't feel the same. Little did he know, she felt the same. This is going to turn out to be an interesting dynamic given the friend group along with who she was with first. I don't want to say too much and give away anything from the other books, I also want to make it clear that you don't have to read the others to follow this storyline, but I recommend it! They are all so good!
Sutton is unsure when Jack asks for one date. She doesn't know if its all he wants or wants more. I wasn't too sure about Sutton when I first me her, but getting to know her through this story was good, we get a little more understanding of the history of her and Jack.
I was so happy when Jack finally decided to do something about his feelings!
These two were so perfect for each other and I loved their spicy scenes!
There were some miscommunications throughout but I liked that Jack never gave up despite Sutton trying to push him away. I think she needed that and needed to know that he was serious.
Another really great read by this author!

tropes 🖤
-best friends to lovers
-billionaire MMC
-hidden feelings

jack and sutton were best friends in college, but sutton has been in love with him ever since. now they’re both settled into their careers and the spark between them has never left.

right off the bat we get sutton’s perspective on their relationship and it seems like jack isn’t interested, which we later find out isn’t true, but she doesn’t know and ends up dating noah (his best friend) for a few years. that story line introduces the previous book, don’t make promises, which was 😗🤌🏼

what i LOVED

this man followed her to a different country to ask her for one date, ONE SINGULAR DATE, hello romance?! and the fact she was nervous on the date and we able to calm her down had me swooning

they DANCED in the RAIN, while he HUMMED the song the night we met. can i please get me a jack? for the love of god please.

their relationship was just so pure and full of love that it had me swooning from chapter 1.

what i didnt like

if yall do not get your 💩 together and COMMUNICATE, it could’ve solved all their issues.

i know its a novella, but i desperately wanted to see their relationship blossom more.

overall, i love me a good KA James book and no matter how deep i am into a reading slump, they’re always easy reads for me to get through and i loved this one.

Jack and Sutton’s Novella was perfect! Like everything! Sutton is such a sweet strong female
lead introduced in Don’t Make Promises and Jack is Savannah’s brother from the same book and we had a glimpse at both characters but in this book holy!

Jack and Sutton are desined soulmates, the confession, the cute moments everything was perfect! All the details and history was there and K.A James made the friends to lovers leap perfectly. And even the little Noah scene was amazing!

Honestly such a good read, quick read and full of so much emotion! You have done it again! 🩷

4.5 🌟 Thanks KA for giving us the HEA Sutton deserves.

This is a loveable novella that gives us everything we wanted for Jack and Sutton.

Honestly I wasn’t sure of the dynamic following how things played out in Don’t Make Promises but I loved it. I’m so happy for them.

Loved getting another little KA James fix to keep us going until the next book!

“This is what I’ve wanted. It feels like duvet days on a cold rainy day. Like my favorite comfort food when I’m feeling down. This is love.”

Eekk!!! I was so excited when i saw that my ARC copy of One Date dropped in my inbox today!

When i read Don't make promises (Noah and sav's book) i knew Jack and Sutton needed their own book! And that's just what we got😍

I loved this book! They both had feelings for each other for years but didnt have the courage to tell each other!

Jack with his little bit of stalking! (who doesn't love a bit of stalking in a book🔥) he knew he shouldnt be doing it but he just couldnt help himself!💕

Throughout the book i wanted to grab Sutton and shake her and tell her to just let go of her fear and let him in!

Their chemistry was so good!🥵🔥

When they danced in the rain my heart melted🥰

So glad they go their HEA💕

Loved how all her friends turned up when she needed them 💕

Some of my favourite parts:

“That’s my girl. I love you, Sutton, and I’m sorry for not telling you sooner.”

“Don’t do this, Sutton. Don’t shut down on me.”💔

“Yes,” she groans. “Just like that. It's so good. You fit so well. The only one who’s ever fit like this”

“Sit, Sutton. You’re fucking hovering.”🥵

@KAJames has done it again and delivered another amazing book💕 thank you for these amazing books!

Was so excited for Sutton and Jacks story and KA James did not disappoint!
This novella was short, but so good and I wanted to scream «just tell the truth!».
Jack and Sutton met at college and they both fell for each other. They didn’t act on it, because they were afraid to ruin the friendship they have.
Until Jack ask Sutton to go on a date with him.

This book is beautifully written
A big 5 stars from me ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I love how Jack and Sutton story is relatable and I think KA. James did this so well.
We at one point or another may well have felt like we are not good enough, or maybe we feel like we wouldn’t stand a chance with a certain someone. Or even have something to offer that person. I love how KA James has done this and
This is where this story is relatable

We are good enough

Two people with opposite background that form a friendship but that feels more than just friends but neither feeling like they are good enough for the other. Or that they would even stand a chance with the other.

Jack works hard to build a life for himself to better himself but still doesn’t feel like he is enough or that Sutton would even want him
Working his way up from nothing to becoming a billionaire even then he doesn’t feel worthy enough or that Sutton would even look his way

Sutton believes that Jack is out of her league and that he would never want her. Their friends, that’s it. He doesn’t see her any other way and
for years they stay as friends and In turn miss out on years of being together and admitting their true feeling when they could of been together all those years.

I absolutely love this story and the chemistry between these two is beautiful. The spice is spicy 🌶️ 🥵 when these two are together.
The connection, chemistry and love they have for each other is just beautiful.

📚BOOK REVIEW 📚

💫My Rating: 5/5 💫

⚠️Trigger Warnings ⚠️
Descriptive sexual activity, graphic language, mentions of parental death

📝My Review📝

While this may have been a shorter story, K.A. James did not leave the readers hanging! This novel is filled with years of memories and present day moments that will leave you shaking your head in disbelief to dropping your mouth from desirable spice. Friends to lovers is a personal favorite trope of mine, this book gave a nice twist to it by having both people think that their feelings were unrequited. However, a new opportunity allows the characters to make up for all of the “what-ifs.” Will it be enough for them to finally take the plunge and commit to each other?

K. A. James depicts her plot as more than just a story of lovers. Although this is the main concept of the story, It is also a story filled with multiple supportive friendships that weather their storms even when the journey may be a bit muddled or chaotic. Each character recognizes and accepts the past for what it was. Though the relationship dynamics are not always black and white, they displayed the vulnerability and uncomfortableness experienced as acceptance, but still showed up for the other person who needed their encouragement.

🤍Thanks to K.A. James for trusting me with their novel in return for my personal review🤍

Spice level: 🌶️🌶️

I've been so keen for Jack and Sutton's story since their relationship was teased in Sav and Noah's book, and I absolutely loved what James delivered.

I love that it was a mutual pining for each other, not just a one-sided unrequited love story. And the fact they've both been head over heels this whole time, despite Sutton's previous relationship with Noah, and Jack's.... hardheadedness? Made for so much drama. But at the same time, I just wanted to yell at the two idiots to communicate more. Because let's face it; if they just talked, things would have gone so much more smoothly for them.

The chemistry was there all along, and I couldn't help but let out a little cheer when they gave in - and the spice was well written and weaved into the narrative in such a natural way. And the rain scenes? Ugh, swoon. I want a man that will dance in the rain with me.

This was a sweet, heartwarming novella at the end of the day, and I'm so glad Jack and Sutton got their happily ever after. I would love to see more of these two in the future - I feel there is just so much more to their story still - but what James gave us was a great read, and I definitely enjoyed it.

KA James is back with another home run right outta the ballpark. One Date is not only one of the best books I’ve read well in a very long rime ( but it truly is a emotional rollercoaster that just plays on all your emotions in ways you won’t even be expecting. I absolutely adored Jack aka Sutton so so much. Best Friends in college together ( they’ve been there for each other through the ups and downs and all the important moments ( but what Jack doesn’t know is that Sutton has been in love with him for pretty much forever. To complicate things even more , it finally comes out that Jack has feelings for Sutton as well ( but Sutton is already dating Noah Jacks best friend. How does it all turn out well you’re just going to have to read and find out for yourself. Best Friends to lovers , Billionaire, Hidden Feelings, angst , humor , witty banter, heartbreaking and heartfelt moments, love , passion, obstacles, family , friendships and so much more . One Date is a must read that is guaranteed to keep you up reading well into the early morning hours and leave you wanting so much more

K. A. James has done it yet again. This book had me swooning. I truly loved this story and getting to see Sutton find her HEA! My only complaint would be that this is a huge miscommunication trope… buttt if both characters just outright communicated then the book would have been over in 20 pages so i will have to live with the miscommunication. I mean K.A. more than makes up for it with all the swoon worthy romance she gives us. I mean the MMC follows the FMC to another country to ask for one date. Just one! And then we get not one but two dancing in the rain scenes!!! I know this was simply a novella but I would have loved a longer book! I simply couldn’t get enough!

✨Thank you so much @kajamesauthor for the opportunity to ARC read! All thoughts and opinions are my own.✨

I really liked how this started. Jack and Sutton have loved each other since college but fear if ruining friendship, they both avoided being honest. Then 4 years ago Jack missed his chance and his friend ended up dating her. 1 I feel like she should have atleast spoke to Jack before Dating Noah. I guess then we wouldn't have this story.
We are then in 4 years later. Nosh obviously moved on with Savanah and Sutton is single.
I like how he chased her for the one date.
The reason I couldn't give full 4 stars is because of how silly they both were. He is literally begging and she still thinks he doesn't care or love her. That confused me. Then Jack for being a billionaire etc he really lacked confidence and kept back tracking. It was a bit too much. Once or twice is OK, but it was constant until he finally stepped up!! The spice was good though. Their chemistry was there too. I love KA James books usually.

I loved this little Novella story for Jack & Sutton!!
Jack & Sutton have pinned for one another since the first day that they met in college, but thought that the other was equally out of their league.

So funny how they felt the same way about each other & themselves. Their mutual fear of rejection & ruining the friendship really delayed their happily ever after.

How can I convince you to love this without spoiling it?
1. Best Friends Ex Husband (only because of missed opportunities)
2. Swoony stalking (only because any slight sight of her completes his day)
3. Dancing in the rain (with humming of tunes because she needs music)
4. Billionaire Runaway (because it takes money to leave the country just to avoid her).

Amazing read. This whole series has been so good so far!!! This book will be released on March 26th!!! I'll give you more after it's released.

Just finished 'One Date' by KA James and WOW! I've been eagerly waiting for Sutton's story, and KA James totally delivered! I'm a sucker for friends-to-lovers, especially when it's filled with unrequited love. Sutton and Jack's journey is heartwarming—they should've been together ages ago, but life got in the way. Jack's on a mission to win Sutton over, and I love that she's cautious. She's guarding her heart, and he's working hard to earn her love. Savannah's hesitancy adds depth; she wants a real connection and doubts herself. It's frustrating to see such a strong, capable woman put herself down. But watching Jack and Savannah help her realize her worth? Pure joy! 🌟 This book is an absolute delight—a perfect Sunday afternoon read! ☕️

❤️Friends to Lovers
❤️Best Friends Ex
❤️Billionaire MC
❤️Second Chance
❤️Obsessed Alpha
❤️HEA

One Date is a sweet mix of favorite tropes: friends to lovers, best friend's ex, billionaire allure, and second chances, all wrapped up with an obsessed alpha and a happy ending.

It's undeniably cute, but it left me wanting more. I felt frustrated by both characters' hesitations, although I understand their fears about risking their friendship and not being enough for each other.

The dancing in the rain scenes were magical, and I adored the characters, but I wished for a deeper dive into their past and less frustration overall. Nonetheless, their HEA left me satisfied.

I've been such a sucker for the entire Breaking the Rules series and I adored Sutton and Jack's book!!!
My only heartbreak it wasn't longer as those two were fire together!
I love the wiring style, dual POV and interlinking characters from the rest of the series but then the storey holds itself as a standalone too.
Sutton needed her head shaking a few times but we need the angst and drama and Jack needed a foot up the ass once or twice but the whole story was so sweet and real. Its normal to be so fearful of putting yourself out there especially friends to lovers and KA James wrote it beautifully.

I love the friends-to-lovers trope, especially when the MMC has been pinning for the FMC for a while. “One Date” was the perfect palette cleanser. It’s about 122 pages—doable to squeeze in.

Over the years, Sutton believes that Jack only felt friendship towards her. Even when Jack finally asks her out, Sutton believes their date is not a date. To her, they are still just friends hanging out. But to Jack, it feels more than that. Sutton is holding her feelings in, fearing getting hurt.

“One Date,” as mentioned earlier, is short but still packed with spice, angsty drama, and frustrating moments. But I enjoyed it, and it was a nice break from my other reads.

I was so excited to read this. I loved Noah and Savannah and I was itching to see what would happen with Jack and Sutton. I’m happy they got their story.

During my read through though I was left incredibly frustrated by both of them, mostly Sutton. I can not believe how stupid they were both being. The things they did I didn’t understand why. Jack was so weak and Sutton was so confusing. Then she got mad at him when she did something stupid.

Overall I’m happy with their ending I just wish it didn’t frustrate me so much. I received this as a free ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I loved this novella! I was hoping Jack and Sutton would get their story told since reading Savannah and Noah’s book. These two have been pining over each other for a long time and at times I was yelling at them to stop getting in their own way. I love how supportive Sutton’s friends were and it was nice to see some familiar characters pop up in this novella. If you’re looking for a quick, cute read, I recommend this one! It’ll leave you feeling good. I can’t wait to read what’s next from KA James.

One Date was a book I was anticipating on reading ever since KA James revealed the Blurb. Let me tell you that it did not disappoint.

What I really enjoyed about this book is that one it’s a short read but so much happened within those pages.

Sutton and Jack is a second chance friends to lovers trope. He’s also a billionaire and obsessed alpha male. Oh and did I mention she’s his best friend’s ex. Yup you read that right.

One Date by KA James will have you hooked by page one and having you wanting more.

I was waiting for Sutton and Jack to get a story and this beautiful novella has given it to me!

From the previous books I had really felt sorry for Sutton with everything and to hear the story of her and Jack gave the ending to both of them that they deserved. I was also happy to get little snippets of the rest of the gang as it was so good to see how things carried on.

I have loved this world that KA James has created, I love all the guys and I want to be a part of that friends group. They are amazing and are completely ride or die.

One Date is a novella in the Breaking the Rules world.
This romance between Jack and Sutton has always been meant to be, but somehow, things got in the way, wrong choices were being made.
So, now, four years later, Jack finally asks Sutton out for one date…
My favorite part of this book was when they were dancing in the rain. He wanted to make her see how perfect they are together. That’s the scene I fell hard for Jack.
Sutton has her fears, and I can understand where they’re coming from. But sometimes I wished she would just let go and just go for what she’s always wanted.

This is one of those series that I loved. When I read the third book I was absolutely hooked on the story. Knowing Sutton and Noah had a relationship and the small bits we uncovered as the story went along about Sutton made me desperate for her story.

This is book is pretty short but that doesn’t mean it’s short on plot. In the chapters we get, Jack and Sutton are more than just two friends who have longed for each other for years.

Short, sweet and sexy. The fundamentals that make up this book. Add in the emotional connection and history that Sutton and Jack share and you’ve got yourself a winner.

There was a hint of miscommunication in this book but honestly I didn’t hate it and it kinda added to the whole story.

I highly recommend this series if you haven’t picked it up yet.

What to expect:
💕 Best friends ex
💕 Second chance
💕 Friends to lovers
💕 Billionaire

One Date by K.A. James is #3.5 in the Breaking the Rules series and it was the cutest novella. If you love friends to lovers, hidden feelings, and billionaire MMC’s then you will love this book.

Jack and Sutton were best friends in college and Sutton has been in love with him since.
Years later they are both single and Jack asks Sutton for just One Date. She’s reluctant because she’s not sure if he wants this as friends or something more. I’m trying not to spoil anything so I will just stop there.

I love this story so much and HAVE to go back to read the other books in the series. I want to know more about Jack and Sutton. I was given this book as an ARC in exchange for my honest thoughts and opinions.

I’ve been waiting for this book!!!

The history of this couple is a little strange, but it works, 100%!! Jack and Sutton have known each other for 13 years. Sutton always had feelings for Jack but was dating his best friend. Jack wants Sutton and can’t have her.

I love how Jack is persistent. My heart breaks for Sutton, as she overcomes thoughts of not being good enough. This couple has been years in the making, and it was worth the wait!

I wasn’t sure about this one at first because of the beginning but I got over it when I realize insecurity played a major role here. Ended up being a happy read for me… definitely a cute short novella for Jack and Sutton! ♥️

I’ve read a few other things by KA and I like her writing style and her character personalities. Jack was a little skittish but he finally worked up his nerve and did the dang thing! He definitely had some spicy scenes that I was NOT mad about! 🥵🔥🤤 Lucky Sutton! 😉
