386 books205 followersFrancesca Simon grew up in California and attended both Yale and Oxford Universities, where she specialised in Medieval Studies. How this prepared her to write children’s books she cannot imagine, but it did give her a thorough grounding in alliteration.
She then threw away a lucrative career as a medievalist and worked as a freelance journalist, writing for the Sunday Times, Guardian, Mail on Sunday, Telegraph, and Vogue (US). After her son Joshua was born in 1989, she started writing children’s books full time. One of the UK’s best-selling children’s writers, Francesca has published over 50 books, including the immensely popular HORRID HENRY series, which has now sold over twelve million copies.
Francesca won the Children’s Book of the Year in 2008 at the British Book Awards for Horrid Henry and the Abominable Snowman. HORRID HENRY is published in 24 countries and is also an animated CITV series. She lives in London with her husband, son, and Tibetan Spaniel, Shanti.

Digging through old books and felt like going through some childhood nostalgia with my old Horrid Henrys, this has The Purple Hand Gang, Henry pretending to be a Tyrannosaurus Rex, a fire breathing dragon etc, “When I’m King”, all the good stuff, though Grandma came but she didn’t call him Henrietta, does that come later or is it a different Grandma?

Horrid Henry does everything he can to trouble people. Even Henry's parents pretend that he is not their child. Henry's little brother Peter tries his best to stop him. Can Peter stop his brothers messing about once and for all?

A triple bumper edition of Horrid Henry books, the stories are hilarious and I can totally see why they would appeal to children.
Henry is a charming but wicked character and his pranks are believable and told in a humourous way. Too many stories included in this selection to recount but you will just have to read them for yourself.
Though they are stories meant for children I think adults can also enjoy them too.
The stories are short enough for bedtime reading and have an engaging storyline and are enhanced by the illustrations of Tony Ross and very similar in style to the work of Quentin Blake.
