Michael Musto is an American writer who began his professional career at The Village Voice, where he writes the weekly La Dolce Musto celebrity and gossip column. He is an Italian American and a graduate of Columbia University, where he was a theater critic for the Columbia Spectator. He is the author of Downtown and Manhattan on the Rocks. A selection of his columns has been published as La Dolce Musto.
Somehow Musto was able to take the craziness and entertaining downtown New York of the 70s & 80s and make it boring. His book is full of the gritty, raw history of art and culture in downtown New York, name dropping the best of the best of their time, but his writing style put me to sleep. I love Musto in interviews and I thought this would be the perfect New York buzz for me but it fell short. Three stars for the awesome amount of New York entertainment history. I just wish I connected with his delivery.
