How far will they have to go to outrun their pasts?
Joey Ferra booked a one-way ticket to Europe to shake his grief. But a deadly scuba-diving experience transforms his casual trip into a trek around the world, as he attempts to crack the tough exterior of his gorgeous, green-eyed rescuer. Modern-day pirates and thieves threaten to end them, but he’s finally found someone he’s willing to turn his life upside for (if she’ll let him) and he’s not giving that up easily.
Kristiana Duvall is a treasure hunter at heart and a professional scuba diver by day. She’s not the settling kind. Her life is spent uncovering other people’s secrets, and avoiding hers. However, the treasure she longs for most seems just out of her reach.
The Unexpected Escape is a gripping tale of love, loss, and the extraordinary lengths we’ll go to in search of hope and healing.
C.D. Gill is the award-winning author of The Freedom's Cry and Against All Odds series. As a midwestern transplant living in the south, she traded the wide-open spaces for more sunshine and warmth year-round. Her insatiable love for travel and exploring new places finds a home in her action-packed fiction where times get hard for the characters but they're never left without hope.
From scuba diving to treasure hunting overseas, The Unexpected Escape drew me straight into Joey and Kristiana's story. Not only did Joey experience some family issues with his sister while he was overseas, but he also encountered a few additional snags while traveling with Kristiana's diving team. Kristiana has family dynamics and issues from her past that she had to face, and both Joey and Kristiana have to navigate their growing relationship and figure out what the next steps are for their future. I enjoyed the chemistry between them as well seeing familiar characters from one of Gill's previous series in The Unexpected Escape. I was given a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Christy's imagination is impressive! This book was a great combination of adventure, romance, redemption - so many things. I'd also never read anything about diving before. It was a nice diversion from the usual settings and tired career choices of most main characters.
The book was very different than I thought it would be by the description. The storyline was engaging but the characters didn’t have the depth I was hoping for. Story pieces eventually did connect and wrap up but for a while it wasn’t clear why they were included. Nice to have a happy ending.
I love Joey and Kristiana so much. Theirs is a fun story with a cool twist at the end. Highly recommended for fans of clean romantic adventure/ romantic suspense.
