The Scaleshifter's Shield

Rate this book
Kaal and Ziya only taste peace for a matter of months before it gets disrupted again.

Practically as soon as they're ready to take up their new responsibilities with the dragon council, they're met with a new problem. Sea monsters from the north are invading the waters to the south, spelling trouble for everyone. Ziya is sent north to help solve the problem, while Kaal remains behind to play liaison between the humans and dragons of different clans.

Once Ziya reaches the north, she can't help but fall in love with the people there. They work in harmony with dragons to keep the sea monsters in check . . . most of the time. But some human-made dragons from the south escaped the devastation of the war and nested in their mountains, pulling attention away from the sea and giving the monsters in the depths a chance to spread.

The problem stretches across clans and across the continent. Can Ziya stop another war from breaking out? More importantly, can she keep Kaal from being drawn into danger, too?

Amazing continuation of the series. It's so nice to see both Kaal and Ziya getting closer in the aftermath of the last war. But the next problems are popping up and they are forced to split, to tackle the problems...

Like I said it's nice to see both progressing with their lives and getting closer together. We get some lore and more views into other cultures. We get a good amount of action and excitement while exploring new places.
And oh boy the ending of this book! I was a bit blown away and absolutely caught by surprise. I haven't expected something like this cliffhanger! So yeah there will be at least one more book that I can inhale like the rest of this series so far. I'm excited for MORE. ^^

I don't have anything to criticize her. It was a solid experience and I had a lot of fun reading this one. Highly recommended.

With the antagonists from the previous books having been defeated, Scaleshifter's Shield provides a welcome change of scenery. This fifth book shows marked improvements in terms of dialogue, intrigue and worldbuilding. It makes me glad to have stuck with the series this long, and I am looking forward to the next one.
