Some jobs you’re willing to kill for. Some jobs you’re willing to die for. She was both.

I was always a nobody. My father despised me and forced me into the Underground to cater to the needs of monsters after deeming me unworthy of being his son due to my unique abilities.

The Underground nurtured what my father hated, and I became a tool to be used by the wicked.

I played the game well. I was a nobody who lurked in the shadows, doing the bidding of the sick and twisted.

And then she arrived and changed everything.

Sirena Lawrence. The girl with the colorful eyes and no voice.

I wanted her the moment I saw her but knew I wasn’t worthy.

Unfortunately, that didn’t prevent my monster side from emerging. The side I’d been concealing for so long. The side that would kill for her. The side that would love her so fiercely that she would never have to question my loyalty.

She’s not easy to obtain, though. Her watchers keep her safe from creatures like me.

I will stop at nothing to prove my worth.

Even if it means betraying those who have shown me mercy by keeping me alive.

Shadow is book six in The Boys of Chapel Crest. This is a dark asylum romance with no choosing and part of the Chaos Universe, a dark crossover world.

the worst book in the series. the sin/cady part of the plot was so unnecessary. nobody gives a fuck about that idiot who should’ve run straight to the abоrtion clinic and put everyone out of their misery instead of acting like a whiny dumb bitсh when they all thought her sister’s boyfriend knocked her up. it’s crazy how she went from being selfless to being selfish in this situation 👎 kg reuss you actually ruined this

After months of waiting, the grand payoff is… Sirena and Shadow finally hooking up? Riveting. The plot has barely crawled forward, and it honestly feels like the author just gave up and tossed this out, hoping no one would notice. What a complete letdown.

Why do I do this to myself?

This is why Show, not Tell is so important.

The author TELLS us that these boys are sick, twisted, deranged, lunatics who would kill you without a moment's hesitation. They strut around like they're bulletproof, like the rules don't apply to them. Thumping their chests and congratulating themselves over how everyone around them quakes in fear.

The author SHOWS us a group of guys who can't even save themselves, let alone their girl. A group of guys who are all too willing to get violent with women (4 in this book - one pregnant), but freeze up when confronted by anyone their actual size. Twice in this book, male characters are fondled by grown men without their consent - one of them was by his own father - and they just stand there, taking it. Why am I, the reader, screaming "HE'S RIGHT THERE! KILL HIM ALREADY!" while the "violent, unhinged, sociopath" just stands there, falling for every manipulation and feeling victimized. I'm planning out in my head how they could pull it off, while they shrug it off and have another orgy.

I've said this same thing for Black Falls High, for Mayfair University, and for Kings of Bolton. This author doesn't want the heroes to defeat the villains, she wants to squeeze more books out of the series. Every series. If that's what motivates her, fine. She could make the villains more powerful, or conceal their identities, or surround them by so much security that they're untouchable. But nope, instead, she always chooses to make the heroes dumb as rocks, easy to manipulate, and too lazy to put all their grand schemes into motion.

Seriously. In this series, Sully, the abusive, sexual predator, is still walking around with zero security. Everett continues to cartoon villain all over the place, making deals he has no intention of honoring, because he knows that Church will fall for every manipulation and doesn't have the balls to kill him. Sirena's stepfather still needs to be taken down.

The only foe vanquished in this book was Shadow's premature ejaculation. I'm not even joking. Most guys, after coming too early, would offer an embarrassed laugh and a promise to get better. Not Shadow.

There should be plenty of story fodder to build Shadow's book around - the animosity between himself and the Watchers, the villains and under-villains, breaking free from Everett's influence. But nope. The author built the books main plot around Shadow's virginity and premature ejaculation. Instead of Try, Try, Again, we got dozens of scenes where he mentally obsessed over whether losing his virginity was worth the risk of embarrassing himself.

I complain, yet (aside from Asylum/Mirage) Shadow's POVs were the most enjoyable in this book. But that's not saying much. Ashes and Stitches were given POVs scenes, but no real POVs - they only served to describe the mundane passage of time or the orgy of the day. Church growled, made threats he couldn't back up, and manhandled/verbally abused a traumatized pregnant girl. Sin only wanted wallow in self-pity, sobbing and cutting himself, and sobbing some more.

And Sirena... She was starting to show signs of life at the end of the last book, but in this book she was back to being a barely sentient fuck doll. Considering the way female characters are treated in the overall universe it's no surprise that we ended up with a mute FMC, whose entire purpose in life amounts to sexually servicing her guys. No hopes. No ambitions. On the rare occasions that she speaks, it's only to compliment or soothe a man's fragile ego. I wanted more of the murderous monster we saw at the end of the last book. Instead, we got a Sirena who could easily be interchanged with a sexy leg lamp.

Two things kept this from being a one star book: First, Asylum/Mirage and all their batshit lunacy made this a little more bearable. Secondly, it's as if the author laces these books with crack. I hate the stupidly inept characters, I hate the misogyny and lack of female agency. I hate the blatant "money grab" vibe I get from every book. And yet, I feel incapable of putting them down. I don't WANT to read the final book in this series (or the other two being dragged out for far too long), but I know I'll end up doing so - if only to see the hateful villains being crushed.

˚ ┊✦ I cannot explain all the emotions I have devoured whilst reading this series there’s so many unexpected turns happening partly gruesome too which can still be shocking

I cannot believe I’m almost finish this series I can understand why people have mixed reviews about this one in particular the views are totally valid. This series has been my comfort reads and I’m so ready for the next book to be released which hoping it the last one of the series it just keeps on going 🤣🤣there was so many dark twists in this book that made you gobsmacked still, thee was a story in here between I did feel for Cady so much in this book considering her dark path with Sirena I totally get it doesn’t want to loose her best friend with all these boys in the way of the friendship can be a bit rocky at times too!

˚ ┊✦ sirena - i do feel like this book is where she shined the most off she wasn’t the first shy person she was in first couple books she has literally grown so much taking standards in her own hands knowing what she wants admire that. Took me a while to like her character but she has grown on me a lot .

╭⊹ ₊˚⊹ "𝙏𝙧𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙢𝙚 , 𝙞 𝙘𝙖𝙣 𝙜𝙚𝙩 𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙙 𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙟𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙖𝙣𝙮𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙞. 𝙘𝙖𝙣 𝙩𝙚𝙖𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨 𝙤𝙛𝙛 𝙤𝙛"

˚ ┊✦ The boys- Good god the boys…. I grew to love and hate some of them I can’t reveal much as it will spoil the other books but holy shit can some of them be fucking toxic some of thee boys not right for Sirena even if she loves them all half of them don’t work in the mix like yes okay they had a lot background drama together I get that but come on need to find another girl not same one like let the girl breath a little ffs.

┊✦ Romance - Epilogue

The romance in this was so dark and mysterious I loved everything about it considering they did it at such bad timing too!
The way all the boys cared for sirena wanted to keep her safe and her sister despite their past traumas they want to help get revenge
It still always shocks me that all boys have the hots for Sirena want to do naughty things with her like even sharing her was like holy dayum did not expect this in the series was very detailed with the smutt scenes which people might find gross but as dark reader myself I kinda grown to love it

the writing: the writing was okay I guess in this one it was kinda lacking of the wow factor like hr first and second book was I kinda can see why people have mixed feelings about this one in particular and some aspects do agree. There was just too much unnecessary drama between all the boys and 2 main FMC it was just too much and too complicated to understand certain parts of the book !

I would still continue this series especially if the last book is the last book of the series as I do feel like next one should stop there as story continues on just getting a bit tad repetitive for my liking I love them I grown to love and hate some of the boys and some of them do old dear to my heart completly when it comes to Sirena some of them can be toxic towards her but can still feel good in their hearts want to keep her safe not just use her for dirty sex…

I am not ready for next one when it comes out in December I just hope its last one it does not need too continue longer that’s for sure !!

What happened with this book.....normally, her books are so crazy plot driven, and this one was like a bad teenager soap drama. I loved meeting Shadow finally and realizing he was way darker than we imagined with his talent, and then asylum befriend him.but the whole plot was defloweinf him and early e*jaculstion like the whole freaking book. Also, the whole sin and candy storyline was so so much to the point that I'm like, I do not care. Like, I hate what Adam did, but this was strung put too long and then sin once again punishing himself. This whole book, all of them were separated, and I'm like, if we're going to take over the underworld, you all need to get back together. I really have no real reason why this book was so long, like shadow could have been a novella. There is way too much drama on this one and not enough plot. So I guess it will all he in the asylum book. I loved sirena embracing her monster, which was why I held onto this book.

Iv tried to trust the process and I know this is an unpopular opinion but this book nearly ruined my favourite series.
Bryce "Shadow" is absolutely unnecessary to this harem. It felt like a filler book and I was just hoping he was killed off throughout.

I'm hanging for Asylum and really hoping it can bring back my love for this series.

when will the why choose era be over, not everyone needs to be part of the pie, they can still be in the action but just be friends.

This series must be read in order. CHECK THE TRIGGER WARNINGS ⚠️

I didn’t know how I would feel about the Shadow needing his own book. Early on in the series, I believed it wasn’t needed. Now, I see that it was. This turned out to be an addictive read; so many things are happening with lots of moving parts. The build up is insane. I have so many thoughts and ideas on where this storyline can go.

Church, Asylum and Stitches are still my favorites but Sin is up there as well. This series is definitely the Why Choosiest I have ever read, and the spice? 😳 There is so much of it.

And now we wait for Asylum’s book…

Do I recommend? Yes

okay this might be my longest review ever, because I have to talk about this.

I really enjoy the chaos universe and love how many different harems we get with all different sets of characters, but I will say I think sirenas books are my least favorite. Just a forewarning

---------------------------------------------------------------
I had a feeling bryce would be apart of the harem and I have no problem with that, what i do have a problem with however is how half of this plot was bryce trying to learn how to not cum so fast....no like seriously that "storyline" takes up about over 75% of the plot. In other news we find out that cady is pregnant, and i know church is a asshole but like the victim blaming in this was insane (he kind of redeemed himself at the end) I don't know if I'm just getting tired of smut but I felt like this book specifically had more smut than plot, and I get it its a smutty book but like this is book FIVE, is the plot destroying Everett? idk.

The best part of the book were the horsemen mentions and (cameos?) I'm very excited tosee how that goes, what woman is ethan crying to? what happens when fox and ethan are both put into the underground? I'm very excited to see! I believe KG said when we fall is when the huge crossover happens, I hope it does not take long to get to though. (considering when we fall was supposed to come out in october?)

Overall I did not like this book, i dont like the characters, really the only characters i like are sirena and cady (can cady get a book?)

Also theres supposed to be a nextgen for this universe but like please kg lets finish this one first!

Once again an emotional rollercoaster that had me hooked from start to finish. Brilliantly written and exceeded all expectations. I'm already eagerly anticipating the final book in the series to see how the story unfolds. If you're a fan of intense, well-crafted dark romance, this series is a must-read.

This book is getting bigger and bigger and it can be stopped. The moment i feel like it's getting boring they hit me with a boom . And I didn't expect that from shadow but he proved himself worthy truly to be a watcher. I mean it's topically the word . Although i'm still fucked in the head when i comes to seth and sylar . But i can't wait to find out . Two more weeks and all will be done once and for all . Can't wait

Sincerely Annoyed

I waited a long time for this book to come out, I kept watching the store only for the date of release to be pushed out even longer. FINALLY it was released and I’ve never been more disappointed, i think the author lost the plot of the series. As if they needed to add another man to the mix, the series is not even giving fair play to the men already involved. This book was 99% spice and 1% storyline. BIG disappointment.

The great skim fest of 2025! This is me officially throwing in the towel on this series, and any future books this author might release. Not only has Chapel Crest been drawn out at a snail’s pace, the series has become so muddled with erroneous shit that I cannot feasibly invest another minute or dollar into it, which is an awful shame, because it started so strongly and devolved into…this.

After the ending to Sinful, I was primed and more than ready for this installment of the series.
Shadow had a noose around my neck that didn't loosen until I finished.

So much is unpacked in this book but the character development of Church, Sin and Serena was monumental.
Now, let me be frank, I've never been a big Church fan, he's always been a bit much for me - you know, that MMC that's just completely irredeemable.. but this book changed my mind, I can truly see Church changing and that's purely because of Serena.

Serena truly is the light that shines on all of the boys. And that was made abundantly clear with Sin. She has such a huge heart and loves equally and appropriately for each member she has selected to love. Despite her selective Mutism, she is evolving into someone new - monsters aren't born, they're made and thats definately the case with Serena. She's not the girl she once was, but now, a woman with anger deep in her veins which her boys encourage her to harness.

My poor Sin 😢 so broken, so adamant he doesn't deserve love, is faced with the most difficult of situations which causes him to make the most dire decision yet. His self worth plummets even more than before - my heart broke for him.

With Serena recognising that she has feelings for another, the boys have to consider accepting another .. Serena chooses! And they support that fully.

More plot twists, More tension, More anxiety!

Without a doubt this series audios can only be described as being the absolute best. The cast are phenomenal together, each one encompassing their characters traits and emotions with precision. And as I've highlighted before the production team are outstanding at pulling the povs together seamlessly. With the addition of Anthony Palmini, this cast is 🤌🏼.

This series must be read in order, but with the revelations and plot twists in the last 2 books of Boys of Chapel Crest, I highly recommend exploring the full chaosverse as the character introductions makes more sense.

On the edge of my seat for Asylum - will it be the last book of Chapel Crest? I hope not 🥺 I'm not ready to leave.

As always please familiarise yourself with the content.

Shadow by K.G. Reuss

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

The Boys of Chapel Crest is my absolute favorite series I’ve read in 2025! I was so excited for the release of Shadow the 6th book in this series. The continued plot is top notch! It’s spicy and a unique morally black story based in an asylum. The series is also interconnected to the Chaos Universe, which was the series that led me down the rabbit hole into this universe. The series follows Sirena and her harem of men Church, Stitches, Ashes, Sin, Shadow and Asylum and his many personalities. It is multi-POV which in my opinion makes a story so much better. Especially when you are seeing the interworking brains of mental patients. I love all the guys, but Seth and his DID’s Asylum and Mirage is my absolute favorite! He had me laughing from the start of the series all the way through and I can’t wait for him to finally come home in the last book “Asylum” coming out later this year! I have so many questions and can’t wait for the next release. Let’s just say Shadow turned out to be a smoke show with that filthy mouth; must be the auburn red hair in him. This series is non-stop chaos that will have you on the edge of your seat, it is morally black dark romance with hella trigger warnings, so if you have any you will want to check those before reading. But, if you love a good RH and looking for something different, then I highly recommend!

So I got to listen to the audiobook for this book and I really enjoyed the storyline so far until the last book. I thought the narrators did amazing however due to an accident the author spoiled how the relationship was going to end up in my comments of one of my videos 😭 it took the suspense away which is what kept me hooked as in the will they/wont they since the mmcs in the relationship up to the last book were very possessive but going into this book knowing what was gonna happen took the excitement away 😭

So good I didn't want to finish

The whole story is fantastic but I hated finishing the book knowing there are technically three more books to the universe left.

The author is amazing and I can't believe I'm on book six and obsessed with every single character. I CANNOT WAIT for everything that is about to unfold within the series. The twists are so fun and the authors mind must be wild.

She's a goddess of her own and I just appreciate K.G. Reuss so much!

Shadow picks up right were we left off in Sinful. Our sweet, meek, Bryce comes out of his shell in this one. He became a favorite and worthy to be a part of the Watchers.
Asylum is next. I can't wait.

Performed in full cast duet by Stella Ripley, Edward Black, J. Tipstone, Joe Arden, Michael Gallagher, Anthony Palmini & Sean Masters.

Dnf sin cheated on Serena with caddy

I had hope with this one. But sin really slept with caddy, and she's pregnant and hopes it's sins. I am discusted. This author loved to write about mcc cheating on the fmc it in every series she wrights. I have read other reviews saying sin enjoyed it with caddy and will be there for her if the baby is his. Now, that makes no sense to me. Serena went to this school /asylum, and she's on a shot so she can't get pregnant. And she was a virgin. Her sister Candice was having smex with everybody at her old high school, and she was just doing the same at this Asylum having smex with everybody. But she was on no birth control.? But they put Serena on birth control? Make it make sense. The series was so good until this happened. I will no longer be reading the series or any books that this author publishes. I just can't believe this book. I want to burn it and through up. Sin and caddy I mean why?. Just make sin leave with cady and be done with it.

Let me be crystal clear I’ve been feral for this book since the cliffhanger in Sinful absolutely shattered my soul. K.G. Reuss knows how to wreck us and then rebuild us bloody, breathless, and begging for more.

If you're not already knee-deep in the Chaos Universe, buckle up, babe. This isn’t your typical morally gray romance. This is morally black. This is asylum walls, fractured psyches, monster-level trauma, and feral loyalty all wrapped around a woman who's finally becoming the Queen we always knew she was.

Sirena is DONE playing victim. In Shadow, we see her flip the script no longer surviving but commanding. The girl who once tried to keep the monsters at bay? She’s now leading them. Merging with her darkness, making the calls, and setting the rules. It’s not just the Watchers’ game anymore it’s hers too.

And Shadow/Bryce? LORD. The moment this enigmatic protector steps forward with his cunning, his loyalty, and his quiet savagery? I melted. He doesn’t demand the spotlight he owns it from the shadows. This man proves himself through actions: fighting dirty, loving fiercely, and protecting the chaos family with everything he’s got. Watching him earn his place and truly be “welcomed home” was everything.

But let’s not pretend we’re not all obsessing over Asylum/Mirage. The banter? Iconic. The duality? Unmatched. The mystery of whether he’s one person or two?? K.G., you’re driving us to madness in the best way. He’s the standout star of every chapter he’s in, and I am feral for his book next.

Also: MULTI-POV. THANK YOU. Being in each of their heads? Heartbreaking. Hilarious. Haunting. It gives the entire story so much depth and power. Especially the way we see Dante’s growth protective, guarded, loyal to a fault and how Sirena gains this partnership. Their dynamic is🔥

If you want sweet? Look elsewhere. If you want unhinged, bloody, delicious chaos? Welcome home.

I got the privilege of reading an ARC of Shadow and wow… The wait for this book was 1000% worth it. I'll be honest, I wasn't totally sold on Shadow when he was introduced to start playing a bigger role since he was always kind of overlooked, but I guess that is what being a shadow is like. I wasn't sure if he'd really fit with the rest of the group. But holy hell, I take it all back. He's like this perfect blend of dark, sweet, and unhinged. He is basically a mash-up of everything I love about the Watchers. He's dark and fucked up like Church, sweet and caring like Ashes, sensitive like Sin, and a little in between like Stitches.

And Asylum?? He's even quirkier and funnier in this one, which somehow made me love him even more. Their dynamic, the chaos, the vibe... I need more of him and I am patiently waiting for his arc in the next book!

Something is definitely building up and if you've read K.G.'s other books within the Chaos Universe, the emotions you'll feel will be even more intense as familiar names get thrown about.

A fork, a cross, a noose, the dirty talk... I didn't think it could get spicier (and creative) but I was wrong. This book had me hooked from page one and didn't let go. Shadow's story was exactly what the series needed, and I already want to reread it. It had me in tears (multiple times) through out my read. This is great for any dark/pitch black romance lover.

The wait was too long and not worthy.
Shadow bores me to dead and Sin is a little whiny bitch.
The heroines of her books keep bringing men after men to de harem, it gets ridiculous for me, how many men one girl needs?
I know the author has really bad health problem, but she never meets the realising dates and at one point it gets annoying, I understood the first FEW times, but the books are postponed A LOT of times, for week or even months. And she raleases other random books, like standalones in the middle . iDK. she used to be my favorite author, but lately is losing her magic.
Obviously, this it my PoV, totally personal.
Still, I think a will keep reading her books, at least until the 3 story’s I’m reading come to an end.

The triggers are there and I wasn’t really ok with them, but continued with the series bc of the story (the mystery of the people behind the scenes). Well this book came out months after I read the previous one and now I just can’t get past Church’s character. He is so insufferable that I would skim his parts. Also the smut scenes were unbelievable. Skipped those pages too. I liked Sin, Stitches, Shadow, Ashes, and Mirage (x2), the others were annoying. I realized that if I’m skipping so many pages why bother. I found myself not picking the book up to read.

Honestly, I’m pretty sad about this book. I loved this series, and was waiting and waiting for this next installment just to be pretty disappointed. The entire book felt like smut, with the tiniest sprinkle of plot, and not even good plot. Nothing with the overall series plot moved in any direction until the last 5% of the book.

I really hope the next book is better than this.
