James Feyden should be dead.

One of the last survivors of an industrial accident that destroyed his home planet of Delwaphria, he is bent on getting justice for himself and his dead civilization. But Vicaro Garva, the man rumored to be responsible, was exonerated of any legal wrongdoing over three decades ago.

Armed with a gutsy plan, James sets out to put things in motion, namely to kidnap Garva’s daughter Annie for leverage. But as things spiral out of control, James must adapt or give up any hope of justice for Delwaphria.

Finally wrote my review!
First of all, I really like that this is called "Episode 1" and not Book 1. It's so appropriate here! The book covers a short time span and felt like a great equivalent to a longer episode of a streaming show. So that's a tiny detail that I think is actually pretty pertinent.
So, the sci-fi world/universe building here is great but also really accessible. As a reader I was never dragged down by backstory or exposition, but I was also not left in the dark and could pretty clearly picture the setting while also feeling like there's room to discover more in subsequent books. I've read a decent amount of sci-fi and I feel like a lot of books fall into one of those traps - explaining the planets/technology/species so much that the reader stops caring, or so little that the reader is confused. This book bridges that gap well!
Also none of the technology is so out there that it verges on being mystical, but rather just makes sense in this universe.
If you've read any of the author's other books then you already know that she's good at characters. They're funny and believable and you get a good look into them again without being taken out of the story to get to know them. I enjoyed that the main characters are older (not old, but not teens or young adults) and have some maturity.
I'm looking forward to Episode 2!

Venture on a space adventure with James Feyden, who is seeking justice for his home planet being destroyed. Although James's plan has high stakes, this story is also filled with humor and unlikely friendships.

This is a fun book for readers to pick up who want to dip their toes into the science fiction genre. This is also a great setup for the series, and I am excited to see where it goes.

(Thank you to the author for the eARC. All opinions expressed are my own)

So I like watching science fiction, but I haven’t read a lot of it. I loved this book and can’t wait to read more! This was such an exciting story and ended at a good spot. The story line and the characters are well developed. I love how the author just jumps into the story and creates the world as it goes. This was a thrilling sci fi adventure!

So, I've already read this whole series, and while sci-fi isn't usually my jam, IT IS SO GOOD. I loved James. I loved Annie. I loved Shen and Terri. The premise really kept me hooked the whole way through and on the edge of my seat. I wanted justice for James SO BAD and needed Annie to finally stick it to her dad. Great series with a satisfying conclusion. Great worldbuilding. A fantastic read

This is what Sci-fi should be!!

This author created amazing worlds, relatable and inspiring characters, and an intriguing plot. I can’t wait for the next episode!! And the witty descriptions made me laugh so often. “Mother from another manufacturer!!” This book deserves a whole galaxy of stars!! Clean, funny, compelling, and just delightful!!
