Maureen Mary was born on 1945 at Port Macquarie, a popular seaside town on the Mid-North Coast of New South Wales, Australia, and is the youngest of four children. Her sister was the novelist Wendy Brennan (Emma Darcy). Her father was a country school teacher and brilliant sportsman. Her mother was a talented dressmaker. When Miranda was ten, her father was transferred to Gosford, another coastal town in the countryside, much closer to Sydney. After leaving her convent school, she briefly studied the cello before moving to Sydney, where she embraced the emerging world of computers. Her career as a programmer ended after she married, had three daughters and bought a small acreage in a semi-rural community. Following this, she attempted greyhound training, as well as horse and goat breeding, but was left dissatisfied.

Miranda yearned to find a creative career from which she could earn money. When her sister suggested writing romances, it seemed like a good idea. She could do it at home, and it might even be fun! It took a decade of trial and error before her first romance, After the Affair, was accepted and published. At that time, Miranda, her husband Tony, and her three daughters had moved back to the Central Coast, where they could enjoy the sun and the surf lifestyle once again. Not long into her writing career, Miranda committed herself to writing a six-book series entitled, The Hearts of Fire, with a deadline of just nine short months. Bravely, her husband left his executive position to stay home and support Miranda’s writing career. He learned to cook and to clean, two invaluable household skills. Numerous successful stories followed, each embodying Miranda’s trademark style: pacy and sexy rhythms; passionate, real-life characters; and enduring, memorable story lines. She has one credo when writing romances: Don’t bore the reader! Millions of fans world-wide agree she never does.

Miranda was the sister of the late author, Emma Darcy.

Re A Daring Proposition - Miranda Lee gets the second July 1994 HP Plus spot with a story that truly matches the books title.

The h is a 25 yr old assistant to a former rock band drummer now turned entertainment act manager and when our story starts, she is ready to turn in her resignation. Sadly for her, she has been in love with her gorgeous, driven, manly hunk of burnin' love boss for yonks - but he only goes for the blonde petite bombshell with the under-endowed chest and she is a tall, statuesque brunette.

She can't stand the agony of seeing him parade his lady buffet samples through the office anymore, so it is time to make a break for sanity and safety. The only problem is that her Manly Hunk Boss doesn't want to let her resign, he offers a raise, a partnership and vacation time, but the h is standing firm.

She isn't a masochist, nor is she petting unicorns thanks to one completely unfulfilling graduation night experience back in high school, but she just can't take the unrequited longing or the jealousy and she knows that she is in love and has to save herself.

Then the Manly Hunk Boss's father has a heart attack and things are looking bad, the H's current blonde buffet sample isn't up to the task of hospital support, so the h is very pleased when the H blows the woman off and starts smoking again. (The h can tell when the H has a new lady, he always stops smoking and then starts up again when the fling is over.)

The H's dad makes it through okay, but it starts the H thinking that he wants a child of his own. NOT a permanent lady partner, he just isn't cut out for marriage and the one time he got engaged, the flame fizzled 6 months into it and he just had to escape, breaking his fiancee's heart in the process. The H doesn't want to be THAT GUY, so he makes sure to keep his temporary flames in the shallow hit and quit it end of the pool.

The h just thinks the H actually needs a partner that has some brains instead of just boudoir bouncing skills and in a wild fit of inspiration, or desperation, she offers to have the H's no-strings- but-financial baby, claiming she is in love with a man who will never love her back and that she wants kids before her bio clock expires.

The Manly Hunk Boss is shocked, he just isn't used to thinking of his very efficient and effective assistant as a bedable commodity. The h struggles to maintain her businesslike demeanor while presenting the whole thing as a business proposal, and the H agrees to give it a shot.

Later that night the H and h arrange to meet up and after some h verbal challenges about the H needing to turn the h on enough to enjoy the baby making scenario, the H gets an A for effort for seduction moves on the dance floor.

The two of them head out to the H's house for a night of love and the H blindfolds the h when he thinks she has to imagine the man she is really in love with to respond to him. Eventually the big lurve mojo bliss purple passion event happens and the h is really happy she waited to find a man she could love rather a man she was just attracted to, tho she maintains the fiction that she is in love with someone else.

The H tho, is of a different mindset and he pretty much dumps the h as a baby mama the next morning. The h is hurt and ends up spilling her woes to her unfiltered and fairly funny upstairs neighbor, who offers to lend the h a red dress to wear to work and really knock the Manly Hunk's socks off.

The h wears the dress to work the next day and with her hair down and her face made up, she is getting lots of attentive looks from various visitors throughout the day, which drives the H wild. She also gets to go to out to lunch with her former high school lover and that seems to make the H even more irate.

The h feels that the Manly Hunk's reaction to her semi-seductive dress is too much, so she reverts to her former business button down mode of dress - but it is too late. Our Manly Hunk H can't contain his Lurve Force Mojo Drive and they wind up in an intimate position on his office couch. The HP rules are in effect and the H's super Manly Hunk motilators hit the target.

Mission accomplished, the H and h part ways as lovers, tho the h still works for the H. Eventually the H's dad needs a place to recuperate from his heart incident and the h sends the man to her aunt, who helped her lose some weight and gain some confidence when the h was fresh off the farm years earlier.

The H and h dance around each other in the office some more and we get a teeny tiny cat bonus with a stray cat that makes food stops at the h's flat, but eventually the h is huge and has to tell her family about her soon to be new addition. The h also believes the H is seeing another woman, he has stopped smoking again and she is going nuts with jealousy.

The Manly Hunk H has finally gotten his priorities straight tho and he kidnaps the h for a day out when she is really, really cranky over being big and preggers and he pretty much tells her she loves him more than she loves whomever she thinks she is in love with and that he himself loves the h madly back.

The h is wondering what happened to his new hidden lady buffet sample, but the H explains that he quit smoking to be around the h, cause second hand smoke isn't good for pregger ladies. He also explains that his mum's continual manipulations as a child did a number on him and his dad has been married four times, so the H genuinely believed he was too wild to domesticate.

But all this time with the h has made him see that he never gets bored or goes off her company, so she is the only woman for him forever. The h explains back that the man she has been in love with is the H and we all adjourn to the h's flat for some more luvin it up with sparkly rainbows.

The next morning, the H's dad and aunt show up and are shocked at the h's preggerness. But the H announces they are in love, getting married and having a baby and the H's dad claims they should make it a double wedding as he is marrying the h's aunt, who is his own age, for the big, funny pink sparkly HEA.

This one was cute and very fast paced. The title was very apt and I had a great time putting on the HP rosy glasses and calling this a great day's outing in HPlandia.

2 star because you CAN finish the book.
But god I wanted to throw up so many times.
Triggers:
- hero doesn't feel attracted to heroine till she pulls out the "I'm in love with someone else and btw I resign" card.
- pretty much tells her he doesn't find her attractive
- he has paraded his share of blonde bimbos in front of her for FIVE years.
-AND she was stupid enough to stay for that long to endure the torture. She really must be a masochist
- HE falls in love with her after the first night (God! She MUST have a magic vagina, or hold on, was it the jealousy and his bruised ego that she was pretending to be with someone else!) so he does the most logical thing and tells her he's afraid she'd develop feelings for him and fall in love with him (cause he's such a charmer)so they need to end it. Because logic.
- then he seduces her again, keeps seducing her, then dumps her using the same fucking excuse!
- he doesn't want her yet he issue strict instructions that no body else can have her.
- he calls her a BITCH! Because she apparently teased him! There was a bit of back story as to why can't stand a little teasing, but still, unforgivable. Some lines CANNOT be crossed!
- my poor brain doesn't have patience to point out heroine's stupidity. Which was even worse than hero's assholery!
- the way he uses references to sex with other women to hurt the heroine leaves a bad taste in your mouth. He claims he did it for her own good, cruel to be kind, but I'll never take a guy back no matter how much the love he declares he has for me or how much I love him if his response to my "I thought you enjoyed sex with me" was "I enjoy sex with other women too". This is basically where the book and romance and urge to carry on died!
The pluses:
Well! He did stay faithful after taking her to bed.
And to be honest, he really thought he was a moralless debauch who's only interested in sex with his partners and was scared that if he married someone he might get bored and that'll be worse than not getting into relationship. He has done it in the past. Not cheated but broken off relationship because the spark went off, didn't go well.
So he actually gave it time, to see whether he can be the man heroine deserve and HOW to be the man the heroine deserved and then once he was sure, he was all action. He didn't fool around, he was blatant.
Heroine, despite being stupid, at least hasn't fallen apart and actually gave him the run for his money.

Yeeeeeeeep, I loved it. It was down to earth, funny and over the top emotional at times. It is one of the best novels I have read in a long time. I loved the heroine so much, she was so brave getting the hero, the man she truly wanted. As for the hero, I was glad he had to suffer for a while, in order to come out on top in the end. Delightful, utterly delightful. If I could I'd give it 10 stars but 5 stars will have to do!

Very satisfying read. I wish we'd had more of a glimpse into when and why the hero fell in love, but there was plenty of emotional tension without it I guess. And some small hints here and there, so that it wasn't totally out of the blue when the hero confessed his love. Overall, I liked it.

Fast paced, fun read with a strong heroine who is willing to make some non traditional decisions and chances to reap the benefits of love.
Heroine was strong, yet lovingly quirky as well. Secondary characters added a lot to the story.

This is the story of an assistant(Samantha, 25) in love with her play it loose boss(Guy, 36). They work well together, get along together, but do not sleep together. She has been with him since the beginning of his business.

The story opens with her handing him her resignation because her heart cannot stand to see him shack up with yet another anorexic blonde bimbo. She is statuesque, a brunette, and hides some of her better assets under 90’s power suits. Well, the H doesn’t want to take her resignation but he doesn’t want to take her either, so the resignation stands. Then his dad(4x married, widowed 1x, divorced 3x) has a heart attack. This shakes the H up, realizing that he will have no one to care for him once his dad is dead. So he decides he wants a baby. He just needs to find a woman that doesn’t want a commitment from him and will be amenable to sharing a child without cohabitating together. The h offers herself up. This will be her chance to sleep with the boss(and who knows maybe he will fall in love). He is hesitant, but she leads him to believe that she is in love with a man that doesn’t want her(which is true, the hero doesn’t realize it is him). He reluctantly agrees.

What unfolds is a story where the H is under the impression the h loves someone else(jealousy) and the h accepts that she will never be the type of woman he wants. They have sex. They call it off. They have sex a lot lot more… She gets pregnant. He stops the sex and the relationship after the pregnancy and the h believes he has taken up with another bimbo(except he doesn’t flaunt it) They continue to do this song and dance for the duration of the story. It is easy to read between the lines and realize that the first time the two slept together the H was hooked. He was just too commitment shy to admit it to himself. By the time he realizes he loves her , he isn’t willing to be her second choice(not realizing he has been her only choice) So, the angst is created by jealousy of mythical om’s, and ow’s, the hero hurting the h because he is afraid HEA’s and the h misleading the H about the “man she loves but cant have).

By the end of the story the h is 5 months pregnant and they finally have their aha moment together. The H started getting hints that the h may actually love him, so he throws in the towel to get his girl Friday. There is a sweet ending(with a secondary love story), and this was an enjoyable read.

A Daring Proposition by Miranda Lee delves into the story of 25 year old Samantha Peters, who has been in love with her 36 year old boss Guy Haywood for the past five years. The unrequited love becomes too much for Samantha to handle, and the story begins when she informs Guy of her intention to quit which needless to say, is not well received at all.

Guy finds it hard to believe the reasons Samantha gives for wanting to quit and walk away, especially when he sees no problems with the working relationship that they have going. Unable to stop Samantha from leaving, things however change, when Guy’s father is hospitalized, and Samantha finds the solution to her problem; become the mother to the baby that Guy wants, without having to go through the conventional route of marriage to do so.

Samantha believes herself to be sophisticated enough to handle such a “relationship” with Guy, but reality of course, proves her wrong at every turn. Guy meanwhile, has to confront with the fact that Samantha is not what he has pegged her to be, and that she might just end up being the only woman to stake a claim on his heart before all is said and done.

I really wanted to enjoy this story because I am a glutton for punishment and adore stories focusing on the unrequited love theme. However, Samantha was such a problematic heroine for almost 3/4th of the book that I got quite fed up at certain points. Her inner monologue sounds unhinged through most places and her constant need to blame Guy for going along with what she wanted; i.e. become lovers and impregnate her was not something I liked overly much. Samantha is a grown up woman, who should own up to her decisions that she makes – which I failed to see in her.

Samantha is the one who decided to offer herself up to Guy because obviously her love for him makes it difficult for her to walk away as easily as she might have wanted to. Furthermore, Samantha seems to believe that Guy could love her just like that and talks about common sense which would direct him to love her; when has love ever been about common sense?

At most points, Guy seems to be the most sensible of the two and needless to say, the fact that Samantha annoyed me made the story lose its rating. Things only started looking up when Samantha finally got what she proposed to do, and stopped blaming Guy for the decision she took with her eyes wide open.

I also believe that the story would have been more satisfying had the reader been privy to the Guy’s feelings as they developed; I was not feeling the heat from the hero towards a large chunk of the story and the lack of any attraction that Guy was feeling towards Samantha really stumped me. It indeed would have been fun to see him brought to his knees with love and want for his Samantha. I also missed seeing the kind of sexy times that Ms. Lee’s books are famous for materialize in this story, which detracted from the enjoyment factor.

Recommended for fans of Miranda Lee.

Final Verdict: Samantha’s unrequited love for her boss results in the most daring proposition of all; make her the mother of his child, with no strings attached!

Rating = 3.75/5

Very disappointing read, this was on my hard to find shelf and I was so excited to be able to locate a copy. Premise is a common one for harlequin romance, unrequited love by employee. The execution is pretty bad to me for this one even though I do enjoy this premise.

The h just is driving me insane. She wanted what she asked for but then she got all snotty or snitty over the H over something she already knew about. Not sure what purpose all the dialogues and banterings they've having sometimes have as it doesn't seem to add to the development of the relationship but just making me feel the h was all high strung and not really likable.

We didn't really know the H well enough to know whether he's a good H or not. All seem pretty superficial and no idea what happened in the end for him to have a change of hearts all of a sudden. The change in attitude was done within a few pages or so so it's really hard to stomach the whole story of his suddenly falling in love with her, especially when nothing major's been happening much.

The love scene is done pretty nice though.

Maybe the book is too short, maybe there's just not too much going on except the h's ad nauseum thoughts of I wish he love me and I cannot let him know blah blah blah. It got tiring after 30pages.

I remember Lee as being a pretty solid writer, not sure if this is just an earlier effort or if my taste's changed, but I'm pretty disappointed with this one.

Why are the few heroines that have sex before were always lousy. It's too much to expect that they had good experiences.
Why would she guard herself for the lousy womanizer when he is putting his penis in hundreds or thousands of vagina. I would find disgusting and gross and feel soiled if were I. ML's should die of STD.
She wasn't his type and he never paid attention to her as woman, never felt any flicker of attraction and suddenly after all this time he started to feel. It didn't ring true.
Althoug I like ML's books and her heroines, I dislike immensely her Hs, are among of the more prick womanizers that cannot go without sex, they will cheat on the heroines, but some of them never cheated on the OW and always stayed faithful and celibate after the OW but never to the heroines. What the OWs have that the heroines don't have for the Hs to be loyal to the OWs?
After having sex with the heroine for the baby he dumped her and just went after her after she changed her way to wear clothes and other guys started to pay attention to her. And he only stopped to smoke because she was pregnant if were not because of that he still would be smoking because he wasn't having sex with his tarts.

"A Daring Proposition" is the story of Samantha and Guy.

Our heroine is the ever so efficient secretary, who has loved the hero for ages. He is her playboy boss, and treats her like "one of the men". When the infinite parade of women gets too hard, she resigns to his chagrin. However, when circumstances make him want a child, she offers to be his incubator.
But when they bang bang, will it be as cold as his proposition?

If you like unrequited love as a plot, this is the book for you. The heroine is MADLY in love, and goes through so much to be close to the hero. He is a blind idiot, who realizes what is infront of him a bit too late. I wish we had seen more of the hero falling for her, instead of a long monologue at the end.

Overall, I really struggled with the end.

Unrequited love! To love someone who doesn't love you but sees you only as a part of the fixtures would not only be hard but devastating.

The main characters were not bad people and their back stories really let us know what they are the way are. The main male character is clueless and the female seem desperate. Still the plot is a good one and Miranda Lee a good writer. The book was an interesting read as we watch the main characters make it to their HEA.
