I abided by one rule, and one rule only...

Show no mercy. Not to anyone. Not even my closest friends.

So, when I was tasked with hunting Emma down and taking her life, it was just another day on the job. However, I couldn’t have been more wrong. She’s not like the others. She tangles with me without fear of the devil she might discover.

Now, I find myself willing to challenge my darkest demons, or worse, unleash them—all for her. There's just one problem...

I don’t know if either of us will make it out alive.

**Killing Emma is a dark captive romance that includes heavy themes of violence that might be disturbing to some readers. Please read trigger warnings before indulging. It does not include cheating or SA (between main characters.) It does have an HEA. This is a standalone but includes characters from No A Dark Romance.

I skipped book one because, well, I didn't know there was a book one of the friends, lol. But this is about Hitman Lucas and Emma.

Emma is checked out she's going through a divorce because her husband couldn't keep it in his pants, and she was already going through depression since her mom passed away. And unknown to her, someone has a hit on her. And that leads Lucas stalking her, learning about his prey. And something isn't right. He doesn't wanna kill her yet. He wants to play and learn who wants her dead. And when he takes her, the tension between them is wild. It's very light dark between them games and chase. Little banter back and forth to crack one another. Lucas does like to annoy her and has guilt for what happens. And then Lucas has to deal with his partner, who wants Lucas to end it because he needs the money.

Lots of drama and trying to trust. I did get annoyed at Emma few times she did do few dumb things. That ticked me off. Lucas also was more light grey then dark.

“This is the weirdest situationship I have ever been in.”

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 🖤💙❤️💜
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌍
Character development: ☹️😮😋😄
Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration type: Dual Narration

The Hero: Luca - he is a contract killer who got a job to kill a woman named Emma Nightengale. The kill order was on hold for a while, but now he is given the go-ahead to do the job. He is attracted to Emma from the start. Some killers don’t take on jobs where the target is a woman, but Luca has no such rule. He gets his jobs from the dark web, and he has a partner, Manny who does the finds the background information on his targets and cleans up after the kill. His mentor was his father and though he feels nothing about killing, the death of his father affected him greatly, because he thinks it was his fault.

The heroine: Emma - she was friends with Lydia from No Control, and is married to Jared, though they don’t always get along. He is often controlling and starts fights with her for no good reason. Emma is wealthy, having millions that were inherited from her family. Jared is an accountant. She is a writer, who is unpublished as of yet.

The Story: We met both Emma and Luca in No Control and we saw that Emma had finally had enough of her husband and was ready to kick him to the curb. It isn’t a huge stretch to think that it might be Jared that hired Luca. Though in this book we see Luca trying to get back together with Emma after she caught him cheating with his secretary after ten years of marriage. She had three miscarriages and failed IVF treatments during the ten years and is fed up with him. Luca, on the other hand is even crazier and more bloodthirsty than Henry, from the first book.

This was an odd one and has some huge triggers. Luca is in the process of Killing Emma when things start to turn sexual. Like that would really happen. Though the fact that she tried it gets Luca intrigued about her, so he decides to take her hostage rather than kill her right away. This book was different than the first in that they have Ivan, who is Manny’s father, who they are afraid will get upset if Luca doesn’t kill Emma. I didn’t like Manny in this book either, he was a jerk. In the first book, Henry had Jude who was a very likable character.

This audiobook was told in dual points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Oliver Clarke and Devon Grace. I like both of these narrators. Oliver Clarke has a deep sexy voice that is perfect for an unhinged assassin like Luca. Devon Grace has a soft feminine voice and is very natural sounding. I really enjoyed the narration in this one. Though the story in this one goes to some crazy places and I didn’t like some of the scenes.

This book is so good.
I LOVED no control so I knew there was a high possibility I would enjoy this one to, and it did not disappoint.
Ngl, Jude is still my favorite character out of all of them in both books lol.
Luca is amazing, and Emma is everything.
I love that Henry and Lydia are also in this one.
It reminds me a lot of the LORDS series.
I love the banter, the spice is spicy and amazing I would say 2/5 for spice level on this one.
It’s a great book, made me want to keep reading it.

OMG, this DARK ROMANCE had my HEART!! I absolutely loved Emma and Luca’s story!! This is an ENEMIES TO LOVERS DARK CAPTIVE ROMANCE between a hitman and his captive who he needs to kill before the deadline! It’s perfect to read if you want plenty of spice and steam and a HEA! Would definitely recommend!

When this hit my kindle, I rannnn! I couldn’t put it down. This is a dark captive romance with forced proximity. Our MMC is a hired assassin and our FMC is the victim he was hired to get rid of. Luca has 36 days to get it done but something about Emma has him stalling. I thought I loved Henry but LUCAAAA OMG 🫠🫠 Emma and Luca together are just swoon worthy! The heat between them is 🔥 🔥 The fact that Emma is best friends with someone in Luca’s life just adds to the dilemma. Can he find a way to keep her alive without getting himself killed?? This whole world this standalone takes place in has me captivated and I can’t wait till the next book.

5/5⭐️ 4/5🌶️

I was completely captivated by this book and couldn’t put it down! Since meeting Luca in the first book, I've been eagerly anticipating more of his story, and it did not disappoint. Luca was phenomenal! The dynamic between Emma and Luca was outstanding—their banter, their clashes, their chemistry, and their possessiveness were all brilliantly executed. This was an exceptional read, and I’m thoroughly hooked on this series.

Emma annoyed me halfway through the book but at the same time I feel like they are both at fault too as they suck in communicating. I liked how she felt creeped out by the way she's starting to like her kidnapper. And also how she admitted how anticlimatic meeting who hired Luca is.

Rating is based on how dumb every decision they made in this book. The plot was interesting and I was busy and sick that's why it took me a long time to finish this. Still, a (good) okay read, though.

🎶 You're like my favorite movie. Play it and rewind it 🎶

Luca (H) lived by one rule: show no mercy. When he was assigned to hunt down Emma (h) and end her life, it seemed like just another job. But she wasn’t like the others. Emma faced him without fear, challenging the very darkness he had long kept hidden. Now, he finds himself willing to confront his darkest demons—or worse, unleash them—all for her. But there’s one problem: he doesn’t know if either of them will make it out alive.

─── .¸✿¸.•❤•.❀• THOUGHTS¸•❀.•❤•.¸✿¸.⋆ ───

“You almost played me, Little Red,” he growls into my ear as I start to lose my senses, the strong scent of chemicals filling my nostrils. “No one’s ever done that before. Maybe you really are a demon.”

This book ate down bad 😩. From the moment he captured her, and she was already low-key attracted to him, I was hooked. Then, their bond over captivity—him not wanting to end her life even though he was ordered to—chef’s kiss. Every single moment, especially when he was just so curious about her, hit me in all the right ways. I love that she ended up being just as unhinged as he was, so they had that in common—it made their connection even better. And when she finally snapped, YEAH. She definitely had it in her, and I’m glad she did as she should. The only downside is that I don’t think they really talked about her miscarriages. It feels like that should’ve been a much bigger conversation. She was going through a lot of grief, and it almost felt one-dimensional. We knew she was suffering, but it seemed like the focus was just on her being upset over Jared, when there was so much more to her grief than just her mother.

“She’s breaking me,” I mutter as I strip down and start the shower. “The woman is trying to break me.”

“Guard her,” a voice growls from somewhere in the woods.

Still, I really think they had an amazing connection, and I loved how Major got so attached to her. He listened to her commands like the best pup ever 🐶. She totally used her looks to her advantage and tried to get him to fall for her—and she did. That move ended up saving her life. Girl, do what you gotta do 👏 I also loved how he went against everything he was supposed to do for the job. He didn’t take the hit on her for millions because he got attached and wanted to protect her. He wasn’t about to let anyone hurt her, which was honestly so sweet. And the way he was all insecure about her still having feelings for her ex? It was so real. He just wanted to be the most important person in her life, and you could totally feel how much he needed that.

“You owe me for this,” he murmurs into my ear. “You’ll spend the rest of your life paying me back.”

“I said no.” My eyes flutter open, meeting his. “I’ll spend the rest of my life loving you—and I think that’s better than pay back.”

The way she went batshit thinking Luca left her is honestly so funny, and so them. I love how they both have that same wild, intense energy, and it totally made sense for her to react like that. It’s just so them to be dramatic in their own way, but that’s what made their connection so CHAOTIC (in a good way).

Sometimes a girl needs a dark romance with some fun vibes, and I’m so here for it 🫶✨. This is definitely reread worthy, and I love all the side characters.

My thoughts :
I already knew this book would hook me from page 1. I wasn’t wrong. Started off with learning about out FMC - Emma. Learning a bit about our MMC - Luca.
And then, Bam right into the action! I am here for it

IMO I’m not a huge fan of Luca right away. He’s kinda a needy bitch of the story.
I love that Emma came back to herself and spoke up to Jared. I giggle and the I was shookith after that. You go girl!

Ohhhh how dare you leave me on a cliffhanger like that!!!!!!!

“Run, Little Red, run. But this wolf’s going to catch you.”

This was unexpectedly really, really good.

It has been a while since I’ve read a straight through. ,
My reading mojo has fizzled. But it seems that with this book, it has somehow reawakened.

Luca was top notch stalkery, hitman goodness. And Emma was not your typical annoying FMC/captive that grated my nerves. On the contrary, I think we could be friends in real life. I like the dynamics she and Luca had together.

This book had me hooked from the beginning. This book was amazing I love a good captive romance. I was on the edge of my seat. The chemistry between Luca and Emma was so freaking good. Emma shocked me and what Luca did I knew it was going to happen. I would definitely read more Annie Wild. I love Emma there wasn’t a part where she annoyed me. She’s a good character and I’m glad she got her closure.

When I tell you I devoured this book, I'm not lying. Just when I thought this series couldn't get any better, it does. Emma and Luca had me laughing at their quips to each other. Luca being so dark and broody, but also gentle and kind was so perfectly written. Emma the classic fiery redhead who found herself, and had a HELL of a arc. Her killing Jared was absolutely perfection. Manny being the snake I truly thought Jude was in book one was fantastic.

I loved every second of this book and I cannot WAIT to get my hands on book 3.

That cliff hanger though....I need more.

Also...Major being the goodest mommas boy to ever walk the earth deserves 5 stars just for himself. I'm a sucker for a Belgian 😭

I thought I loved Henry, but Luca is everything!

Emma surprised me! I didn't see that coming, but I loved it so so much. Jared was a piece of shit.

"And if the moment comes that she choose him - or anyone, for that matter - over me, she's dead. I'll make fucking sure of it." - Luca ❤️

I loved the connected characters from No Control and I can't wait for Jude's story. I love him!

The story here was interesting, but again, the pacing felt so off for me. I also think the author missed some opportunities to either tell or show us what was going on. That said, still a fun time, and I wouldn't turn my nose up at reading the next book in the series.

So, this was my first "Dark Romance" experience and WOAH DUDE (AHAHAHAHA - *nervous laughter*). I am not entirely sure if it's my thing, but that's okay! I think I may just be a slow burn girly at heart, and this was not a slow burn... twas more like a forest fire.

Definitely a different vibe than what I've been used to reading, but I'm not opposed to trying another book by Annie Wild in the future.

Luca is a trained assassin and his next target is Emma. The only problem is when he tries to take her life he finds himself attracted to and curious about her so he ends up taking her home with him.

He has an internal battle between doing the job he was hired to do and keeping Emma safe and for himself. He knows that if he keeps her then people will go after them.

Luca is cold, calculated, and dominant but also has a sweet side that wants to take care of Emma. She is grieving the loss of her mother and is also upset because she found out that her soon-to-be ex-husband cheated on her.

Luca and Emma had an instant attraction and sizzling chemistry! The relationship continued to build throughout the book and I really loved them together.

I stayed up late to read this one as I could not put it down!

(As this is the second book in the series there are a couple of characters from book 1 involved in the story but I didn't feel I had to read that one to follow along with this one.)

Overall: 4 out of 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Spice/Heat Intensity: 3 out of 5 🌶️🌶️🌶️
Main Characters: Luca & Emma
Nickname: Little Red
Darkness: 2 out of 5 🖤🖤 (I didn't find the book too dark but I do read some pretty dark books)
Type of book: MF, Duel 1st Person POV
Reading Order: Interconnected characters but can be read as a standalone
Title: Killing Emma
Epilogue: Yes
Ending Type: HEA

*OTT Possessive, dominant, fiercely loyal and protective H
*Eyes only for her

The story: LOVED LOVED LOVED LOVED LOVED this one!! Ahhh this book was so good omg- the plot was thick, the characters were beautiful, and the twists and turns had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. It was easy to get into and even easier to STAY into, like I couldn’t put it down!! I do wish that I read the first book in this standalone series as it might have helped me understand some of the characters in this one, but they’ve been purchased so no worries hehehe but the imagery and settings were so vivid and so surreal it felt like I was in the book. Gah oh my gosh I just loved it so much!!

The characters: Emma and Luca are babes. They loathe each other yet love each other and I just can’t stop thinking about them 😭 they’re both adorable and I def think Major was a plus. An Italian, who’s tall, with dark eyes, who pew pews people for a living? Um- weird way to propose, but um yes:) BUT GOSH Emma was amazing! In a lot of other stalkerish books, I sometimes find that the FMC is just annoying. But Emma was a straight bad ass and was strong and resilient! I felt that she showed vulnerability with her medical condition (POTS girlies would love this book) and I think it takes a lot of strength to stand up for herself even in an unconventional situation such as getting kidnapped lol anyway hahaha 😂 I LOVED HER! From one chronically ill girly to another, sometimes we do just need a spoonful of salt and a kiss from a hot Italian man and we’ll be ok 😌 Lucaaaaaaaa my man my maaaaaan JESUS he’s hot!!! He’s just a lil guy- he can do no wrong. (He may kill people for a living, but hear me out!)

The spice: I rated this a 🌶️🌶️🌶️.5/5 on the pepper scale! There were about 6 open door scenes with some intense heat 😅 the spice was graphic but GOOD I SWEAR OMG like my breath was straight up just taken away kinda like Emmas breath in some of those scenes 👀 ANYWAYYYYYY JUST SO GOOD!!

These Stockholm’s syndrome books have me in a goddamn chokehold 👀👀

This book captivated me start to finish, I literally couldn’t stop, it was just addictive…

Emma - is a women brought down by everything in her life until one day her life could just end… I felt like Emma was strong, brave and feisty throughout the whole book! In Luca words - she’s a mouthy little red! I loved her throughout the book, she took no crap from anyone and I preach that!

Luca - well, Luca intrigued and made me so curious, seeing him slowly change through the book and the way he gave everything he knew to safe the thing that he should have gotten rid off! Touch her and die really is this man. He’s addictive and fiery, sweet and protective!

I love the overall story - the way they argue, their chemistry, their relationship! I loved how jelous they both get. The raw possessiveness😍😍

Perfect for the dark romance girlies❤️

WHEWW, and I thought Henry was yummy & addicting but here comes Luca with his fine self🤭🫠🫠

This book was sooo good, I knew Annie would deliver haha. Luca was determined to complete his job and move on but Emma stopped him right in his tracks. He was smitten and I was laughing that he just took her & brought her home🤣

I loved the connections between the first standalone and this one as well because I love Henry and Lydia!

I was on edge the whole time with Luca and the choices he had to make, & the heat between Luca and Emma though?? I had to fan myself a few times because it was HOT😫

Annie…the ending had me falling out because I need the next book🥴(lol jk, I’m just dramatic)

LOVED THIS BOOK, thank you so much Annie🩶

I was captivated by the second installment of this series, even more so than the first book. The storyline delves into a dark and twisted portrayal of a toxic kind of love, which oddly resonated with me. The female protagonist is depicted as a strong and independent individual who undergoes significant personal growth, while the male main character is portrayed as completely unhinged. The book was so engaging that I couldn't put it down and ended up finishing it in one sitting. I'm eagerly anticipating immersing myself in the next book in the series!

Emma is going through a divorce. She's having a hard time. She's shut everyone out.

But someone has a hit on her. And Luca is the man hired to kill her.

Everything is going according to plan for him until it isn't. And he decides to take her. Why? He doesn't really know but he needs to know who she is under her mask.

However he HAS to kill her within so many days.

Their personalities are amazing.
The chemistry is off the charts.

Both characters are strong and stubborn and so complex.

Killing Emma will be on my top reads of the year list.

Annie does a fantastic job writing books you can't put down. You will be missing out if you don't read it.
