Megan Cooper’s traumatic past has left her fearful and struggling to trust. Wanting to take her life back, and to protect herself, she asks an MMA champion to train her to fight.
There is something about the attractive and charismatic fighter that sets her at ease, despite his profession. After he does her a selfless and lifesaving favour, she begins to see a different man to the one people perceive him to be.
Joey ‘The Slayer’ Ferguson isn’t just another fighter. He’s a man with a heart as big as his dream to be the best fighter he can. He was attracted to Megan from the moment he met her. When she asks him to train her so she will never be vulnerable again, how can he say no? The more he gets to know her, the more he sees beyond Megan’s scars to the strength inside of her.
Joey wants to help Megan see the fearless and incredible woman he knows her to be. Will her trauma and fears get the better of her, or can Megan find the courage to believe him?
And can she risk her heart for a real chance at forever?
This novella is a steamy, contemporary romance spin-off from the BreakNeck Rockstar Series. Joey and Megan are secondary characters that feature throughout the books. This is their love story, with some BreakNeck character cameo appearances. There is a content warning for the book available on my website. However, these events all occur off page.
Chris Reilly has loved reading from as early as she can remember and would spend hours letting her imagination run wild. She was born and raised in Liverpool, UK and still lives in her favorite city with her son and their two cats.
She spent the majority of her 20’s/30’s reading thrillers, but made the switch to romance when she picked up a book called ‘Dirty Letters’ and loved it and the authors so much, she went looking for more. Reading Indie Romance became her passion and she was inspired by these amazing authors and decided to put her writing hobby to the test.
A 'Happily Ever After' is always the goal for her characters, but there may be a cliffhanger or two, and definitely some angsty situations to work through, occasionally a little bit dark, but oh so delicious.
I really like the two protagonists, they were so different yet they belong. Like sugar and salt in a cake. MMC is super gentle with FMC, they communicate, they both have their own issues that they work out, it's a nice slow burn as well. There were some things I was confused about, like FMC finding something out about the villian, but then that was it? Eh? Ok whatevs. The psychological aspects of both the characters were well written, they're two very realistic people. The book needs editing, it has many typos, but I enjoyed the read nonetheless. I also didn't appreciate that he constantly compared her to other women in his life, like his inner monologue but i guess that's how men who sleep around a lot are like that. And he was super nice to her so he gets a pass. The side characters were respectful and sweet, the FMC has great friends who respect her. I really liked it. Seeing her growth was great too.
I didn’t quite realize until the end of the book that I should’ve read other books from the series first, but still ended up liking it regardless. Both characters were interesting (as was the story).
I don't know if calling this book cute would be a good idea. But it still feels like it. This book is set after "Sky Full of Stars". It's not necessary to have read it, but I recommend it because it's such a good book 😁 Megan, as well as Joey, already had their parts in it. Megan is Jenna's friend and she helps and supports her as good as she can. Especially at the end of the book, that is the moment this one here starts. Megan is a domestic violence survivor. Yes, she is strong. But especially the last incident has left her with a huge trauma 😭
I loved how empathic Joey is. He is a fighter. He lives for violence. But that's his job and only his job. He is so absolut careful with Megan 🥰
As I said, it's so cute.
It's not just Joey who supports Megan. Of course, her friends, especially Brooke, not just because she is her lawyer but also one of her best friends. And I can't wait to get to her book soon, she is such a crazy person 🤣
I read the BreakNeck series and loved Megan and Joey as side characters so I was so happy to see them get their own book to see how they got to their HEA. Joey is such a sweetheart and perfect for Megan and everything that she had been through. The writer wrote about the sensitive subject of domestic violence well allowing Megan to steer the boat with her relationship with Joey. The only thing I would have liked was to have more of her emotional thoughts. We got some but I feel like the author could have gone deeper which would allow this shorter book to be longer. It also seemed like she began to trust Joey a little too quickly and feel like that should have been drawn out a little more. Overall I think the writing of this book was the best out of the rest of the BreakNeck series and I feel like even though this is book 3.5 it completes the series well.
I wasn’t sure about this book but I’m so glad I gave it a read because I loved it, I couldn’t put it down. I loved the instant chemistry between MMA fighter Joey who is a giant of a man and Megan who he almost instantly falls in love with as soon as he lays eyes on her. Their chemistry is off the scale. The instant connection is perfect. Another great, well-written, short, erotic read by this author. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Who wouldn’t want to have a gorgeous MMA fighter in their corner? That’s exactly what Megan has in this spin off novella from the Breakneck series. Always love to catch up with the side characters from a novel and this doesn’t disappoint. There is a very poignant feel to this given the previous domestic violence angle and it’s so great to see Megan growing in confidence and Joey’s sensitive attitude given that he is in a very violent sport. Another sexy cracker from this great author.
Chris writes the moment loving characters. This is a perfect palate cleanser after something dark, or if you love to love the good guys, this is has everything you need. All the spice, too!
