I really enjoyed The Old Bloods. The shadowy mood throughout is fantastic and the story ramps up to some genuinely thrilling scenes as it progresses. The lore around the vampiric Teppes family fits so naturally with the dark mafia underworld that I could really root for Sophia and her conflicted feelings of being trapped within it. That said, there were a few plot inconsistencies (and I just have no clue what Sophia sees in Henry), but it was easy to sink into the atmosphere of the story and imagine this shadowy Chicago. I'll definitely be reading other books in this series.

This was a lovely read. It was definitely outside of my preferred genre, I’ve never been one for cop dramas or CSI-type shows or mafia cinema, but I’m glad I stepped out of that to read this book. It’s the vampire elements that ultimately pulled me in.

Anna does a great job with language. Her prose was lovely, evoking a very sultry environment and the dialogue was great—very believable. The characters had their own tones and characteristics when speaking that I could almost hear their voices as I read.

I especially appreciated what Anna did with some of the vampire mythology. It’s very difficult to carve a new niche in folklore that has existed for centuries yet she managed to find away and I appreciated her own little twists on it. Very clever.

Definitely recommend the Old Bloods. Absolutely read it if you get the chance.

A very refreshing and compelling take on vampires—a subject I don’t normally gravitate to. Lascaux’s storytelling immerses you instantly, and grows in intensity the more pages you turn! Can’t wait to read more by this author.

Dracula meets Peaky Blinders? Yes please.

This was a fantastic introduction to the world of The Old Bloods. I loved the way classic vampire lore was interwoven with the dark world of the Teppes crime family. The world-building was fantastic and the characters and plot kept me intrigued from start to finish. My favourite characters were Will and Amelia, but Sophia is one hell of a badass in heels too. I'm looking forward to reading the spin-off and hopefully a sequel in the not too distant future ;)
