The newest threat to Furin's safety, Noroshi, is here! Fighting with their allies that they've met along the way, Bofurin battles against the former Furin students, Endo and Takiishi, in this all-out war! While Sakura and the first-years are desperately struggling to hold their ground, the legendary fighters known as “Noroshi” who all left with Endo years ago have returned, popping up across the town. Pushed to a corner, Sakura and Sugishita will have to work together against their greatest enemy yet!
"In a group fight, you need to pay attention to everything, including yourself. If you can understand the situation around you, then you'll know what you have to do. That'll decide what everyone around you should do. We're all fighting for one goal. So pay close attention to each other, influence one another and resonate as one." [Suo]
Bofurin members (except for Umemiya) are currently in the middle of a fight against an army of people send by Endo and Takiishi. The stakes are high, because if they fail, the price will be paid by the townspeople. All the kings are having their hands full with the dangerous members of Noroshi, including Shuji Hashirao - Sakura and Sugishita's opponent.
Wind Breaker's known for very entertaining fights, but that's not what its strongest point is, and Vol. 15 is a great proof of that. What I love about this volume, and the story in general, is the growth of the characters as individuals and the growth of the bonds between them.
All the main characters shine brightly in this volume, but the title of the absolute MVPS this time goes to Sakura and Nirei.
Stand up!! Stand up!! Akihiko Nirei!!
I have to admit that I was never a fan of Nirei's character. He seemed like the typical cowardly-like character that's there to become the brain of the group. But then the position of the brain got suddenly taken by Suo, so what was left for Nirei? To be the comedy relief? No.
I was surprised when I saw Nirei around the guys being brought to the fight against KEEL in one of the previous volumes. He wasn't a fighter, so why was he there? It was an extremely dangerous situation, and he was more of a liability than an asset. To my surprise, he found a way to have his own part in the fight. It was a small part, barely significant, but it felt like a huge win for him, and I liked that a lot.
Then Nirei was brought to a big fight once again, and it made me extremely nervous, because he had only one move - and that one move could save his life once, twice if he was lucky, but not more than this. So naturally, I feared for his wellbeing - and I feared for the wellbeing of others who would with no doubt throw themselves into danger to save him. But it turned out that I shouldn't have been worried, because Nirei had a plan of his own.
I hated myself for being weak. I let others beat me up. I couldn't even protect myself. All I ever do is hold people back. That's why I hate myself... But despite that everyone still wants to be with me. They still lend me their strength. They still believe in me. I need to live up to their expectations, or else!
Nirei knew that Suo will have to leave them at some point, and he knew that his spot will need to be covered by someone. There was no one else, so Nirei had to step up. But Nirei's not a fighter, he's an observer. He would rather stand aside and cheer up for his friends, to not get hurt, but he also wants to be a part of their group and fight alongside them, doing his best to provide support and protect them if the need for it comes. And this need to help his friends had to take over his initial cowardice, because Nirei did what he needed to do. He stepped up.
"I'm nothing like Suo-chan... But I'll do what I can to help!"
Him taking a part in the fight was something that I actually hadn't expected. I mean, I thought that he will use his move and then stand aside, but he did much more than that. His sudden growth was glorious to see. You might argue that he didn't do much - it wasn't anything groundbreaking, I agree - but he did something that seemed impossible for him before. He surprised me a lot and I wonder what kind of direction his character will take. Will he train to become one of the fighters like the others or will he be satisfied with who he is now? We will see. I never cared much about him, but now I'm excited to see more of him in the next volumes.
"How I'm supposed to-" "You'll be fine. You're someone who can do anything you put your mind to."
The second MVP of this volume is Sakura. That's probably not surprising since he's the MC of the story, but I had to include him in here, because he also had (positively) surprised me a lot during the reading. I don't know if I already said it, maybe I did, so I will say it again - Sakura reminds me a lot of my favorite boy, Ichigo Kurosaki, and I love it. A lot. I love characters like them so much. They are the protectors. Seem like the lonely ones, ones that rather stay away from people, seem like troublemakers, but are extremely brave and strong, and have a lot of care and love in their hearts.
I've always bested my opponents with my own strengths. That was my way of proving I exist. I thought that meant everything to me.
Both Ichigo's and Sakura's natural instinct was to depend on their own strengths. They thought that they need to be the ones to step up, that they need to be the ones to fight, the ones to lose their health and life, trying their best to keep others from the harm's way. And one of the lessons that they needed to learn during their stories was to share their burden with others. They had to learn how to step away, to give room to their friends and let them help.
"Hey." "What?" "You go and take him on. I'll back you up instead. Don't get funny ideas. I'm not doing this for you. I just wanna lighten their burden as soon as I can."
One of the proves of the fact that Sakura learned his lesson is his choice to reduce himself to the role of a supporter rather than an attacker in the fight against Shuji Hashirao. It's something he would never have done before. He was always a person who took action first, never paid attention to others. All he cared for was to take down the opponent - and the same can be told about Sugishita's character. But this time the others' wellbeing was Sakura's priority, and because of that, he decided that the best curse of action will be to step back and let Sugishita - his rival, by the way - take the lead. It was a huge sacrifice on his part and I was so proud of him to do this.
What also reminded me of Ichigo while reading this volume was Sakura's rapid growth as a fighter.
Despite everythin', he's growin' at immense speed. This kid... He's... the same as them. He's still stiff and green, but he's a flower that blooms on the battlefield.
Both Ichigo and Sakura have the tendency to build the right instincts and learn during a fight. They grow with every battle, become stronger and stronger, to the point that both the allies and enemies are in awe of them. I'm super excited to see how strong Sakura will become. Will he be am equal to Umemiya one day, or will he surpass him? Will he become a legend of Bofurin? Or will he go a totally different path, becoming more of an enemy than an ally? It's something I definitely wouldn't like to see, but it's not an impossibility!
This is the best. I don't get to fight guys like these much. That's why I must... absolutely have to... devour them both.
The Noroshi members, and Endo fighters in general, seemed to take part in this battle, because, well, they enjoy fighting. It gives them the feeling of rush, of adrenaline that they had been longing for. It's especially seen in the cases of Hashirao and Obiki (Suo's opponent). I don't think they care about the possible destruction of the town, they just want to beat up as many people as they possibly can. Is there some kind of revenge element there too, when it comes to the older Noroshi members? Maybe? I'm not sure what kind of relationship they had with the kings of Bofurin. Maybe they all had been friends once, but decided to part ways, because there had been a difference in their sights of Bofurin's future. It seems like they all enjoy chaos, and that's something that the Bofurin members cannot accept.
What they all seem to have in common, and by all I mean both the heroes and the bad guys, is having the instincts to recognize a threat. They immediately know who's the strongest and who will eventually become the strongest, and the bad guys immediately launch themselves at the possible threat, to get them out so they would not become a danger in the future. I love to see that, to see characters react to one another, quickly analyzing what to do. It's a world of people, but it also feels like a world of animals, you know? Because so many of them are depending on their deepest and strongest instincts. It's quite fascinating.
Anyways, we left the volume in a very dangerous situation. Endo and Takiishi are on their move, which means that the town is in danger, and Umemiya - Bofurin's strongest fighter - is still stuck in the school building. Will our heroes save the day somehow or will they be too late? We will see in the next volume! I'm so excited! ☺️
"Don't worry. You're someone who can do anything you put your mind to."
I really enjoyed this volume (chapters 106-113). Suo's fight was great and Nirei is continuing to prove he's not just a cowardly type character. He wants to get stronger, and he's making some progress thankfully.
The true highlight, however, was definitely Sakura and Sugishita. Sugishita finally shows some character growth/development. Their team effort really paid off too.

The death grip this series has on me should be studied 😩 I can’t get enough of my boys! Almost every single volume is a banger. HOW can it be so?
There were two main gifts in this volume. The first one was seeing how much Nirei has worked on his fighting skills. I felt like such a proud mother watching him actually get involved in the fight and hold his ground 💖🥺💖 My sweet angel just wants to get stronger, so he can also protect his friends the way they’ve protected him. He’s so self-conscious about it too 😭 He’s so scared the other boys will get sick of him because he’s genuinely weaker than them. It breaks my heart! Nirei, baby, those boys love you! They’re not gonna get sick of you!
The other gift in this volume was seeing my beautiful Sakura learn how to fight in a team 🥹 He’s truly so amazing! He learns and adapts so quickly. It’s no wonder everyone is always so impressed by him! I loved seeing him truly understand Sugishita’s fighting style, so they could better overcome their opponent. I want the world on a silver platter for my baby son! I love how genuinely he takes in the feedback people give him, so he can get better 😭
However, things are not looking good for my Furin boys! The vast amount of enemies they’re facing is just too overwhelming. I know my babies will be okay in the end, but just how much havoc is Noroshi going to cause? My poor heart is weak!
The agony of waiting for the next volume returns 😖
Sakura finally said his name! He's fully trusting and relying on Sugishita. I think that was the first time for sakura called sugishita by his name right Suo throwing a freaking kick as soon as he found out that guy isn't part of noroshi haha what politeness when he's not even a senpai to begin with. Time to unleash your true power. Suo-chan being the beast he actually is! I can't wait to see how he wipes off with that idiot.
DAMN!! My boy Kiryu was just about to kill that guy, No hesitation. LETS GOOOOO NIREEE CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT IM IN TEARS MY BABY NIRE HAS GROWN IS THIS WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO BE A MOTHER? HELP IM FREAKING OUT SO MUCH THIS IS SO FUCKING GOOD IDK MUCH WORDS AND IDK HOW TO EXPRESS MY UNDYING LOVE BUT I LOVE THIS MANGA SO SO MUCH
Yo I want to know more about Suo so badly omg. His fighting style is simply so delicate, calm and beautiful Suo has the vibe that makes me dont want to see him lose. Not that he’s my favorite, it’s just that… his confidence is so overwhelming that I honestly can’t think of him losing. Suo doesn't have a single scratch on him after fight like always He is untouchable.
OH MY GOD SAKURA SUPPORTS SUGISHITA AND SUGISHITA SUPPORTS SAKURA ITS TWO WAY AHHH TOGAMEEE OMG AND OH MY GOD THE BUDDIES ARE HERE WOOO I GASPED THE MOMENT EVERYONE WERE HELPING THEM I'M SO HAPPY FINALLY IT GOT ME SO NERVOUS FR

Me encantó.

Noroshi Arc should be in the movie or get better in next season because it is so LIT! The ambience and the blockade that Noroshi did to Bofurin were so suspenseful.
Point act(s) in this volume:
1. Sakura-Shugishita They learned how to collaborate. Imagine the two strongers in the first class who are always ready to give the bump to each other but need to join the strategy. Another character development from Sakura and Shugishita.
2. Kiryu-Nirei Nirei as always being the weakest from others. He knew more than anyone else. That’s why he practiced with Suo. And when he had to face Noroshi, Nirei didn’t wanna stand still. He wanted to help. Kiryu saw this and I saw him (a little bit) underestimate Nirei, but suddenly Nirei was ready to fight and made Kiryu shocked—also Sou wasss so proud. Kiryu faced the fact that Nirei was not as weak as that.
The first class is gonna be so solid in the next. I bet it!
Nirei's progress has been really nice to see progress and payoff on! This volume left off on quite a bit of things beginning to unfold, and yet it feels like not that much progress has taken place in either the bridge, forest, or road...Well, except for the end scene (no spoilers), but really though I know that the bridge fight was going better than the others, so how're we still stuck there? Also, Suo has GOT to have some back story, wth was that fight???? Not even this guy phased him? Who is Suo?
this vol so far not only is the most poetic one but also featuring the most beautiful fighting choreography in the entire series. there are two top moments that couldn't go without me engraved it into my head. one is the growth of fight-bonding between sakura and sugishita. secondly, not trying to put hayato suo on a pedestal but after seeing his delicate yet very lethal combat style, he gives me the vibe that makes me don't want to see him lose. it’s just that… his confidence is so overwhelming that i honestly can’t think of him losing. and the fact we got to see a glimpse of his lore, i can't wait to know about his backstory. like i said before, he's very compelling.
Why do you fight? To protect the things you love? To make sure everyone can continue smiling? To prove yourself?
"Those who cause pain. Those who bring destruction, who hold evil in their hearts. Will be purged by Bofurin without exception."
This series is full of character development. For the most part, the antagonists that you meet are just traumatised or suffering kids. In these circumstances there is no evil vs good. Just those who fight for their own reasons. Out of these circumstances there is 1 evil. His name is Endo. He gives me the heebie jeebies.
Anyway, I love the way the author goes about illustrating societal problems. Each character is unique in their own way, literally, each trauma is different.
Sakura Haruka is one of my favourite protagonists to date. He struggles to find his own place in society, but eventually he allows himself to open up to the people around him. I simply adore his character. One of the best shounens I've read. There's nothing too cringey about this series, while Sakura is strong, he goes through a lot to reach that level of power, he's not super overpowered/invincible for nothing.
I still have one question. How the fuck does Bofurin work as a school? There are 0 adults. ZERO. Meh.
Also Tsubakino is so cool. Omg I love them. And as they once said, "Whether he feels the same way or not, or our genders. None of that matters. The value of love comes from our souls."
Well stated, 5/5 stars, :3

It’s going to be a few volumes before we’re through this melee. At least this manga isn’t the realistic type with broken bones.
Personally, I think Noroshi is kind of lame. It’s one thing to prove your strength through fighting til you get the top, but throwing in a whole lot of cannon fodder to win through numbers is a different kind of battle. Even if they won I wouldn’t really consider it a contest of strength. These guys aren’t even part of Noroshi. I like how this town is just full of delinquents willing to get into senseless melees, and there aren’t any adults, let alone law enforcement, around to put a halt to it.
Sakura is learning teamwork on the fly, Nirei is finding his courage, Sugishita is also growing. Suo…his opponent is another dummy blathering about how he was bored before (btw, competitive sports does not “keep you safe”, it’s actually quite common to get injured and end your career), and fighting gave him an outlet. Gee, maybe just do something outside gymnastics, a fairly highly regulated sport, and stretch your creative wings in a more constructive way 🙄

I’M GOING TO NEED SOMEONE TO HOLD ME BECAUSE I’VE BEEN SCREAMING THROUGH THIS ENTIRE VOLUME 😭💖💖💖 AAAAAAARGGHHHHH this is so far my most favourite volume the fights the character developments ✨CHEF’S KISS✨ ✨STUNNING✨
I love love LOVE SAKURA AND SUGI SYNCING MORE AND MORE. SAKURA SUPPORTING SUGI AT FIRST AND THEN SUGI SUPPORTING SAKURA???? I’M BAWLING HAPPY TEARS AAAAAHHHH MY TSUNDERE BOIS and I loveeeee every single part of Suo’s fight with that gymnastic dude. Suo never failed to serve and slay ✨✨💖 and everyone panicking about Nirei’s safety but my boi stood his ground and fought his best!!!! MY HEART IS SO FULL I LOVE HIM SO MUCH (at one point my baby Kiryu looked murderous to protect Nirei but he let Nirei do his best 💗 we love supportive bros 💗)

It's nice to see Nirei getting better at fighting, so he can take care of himself. Also that his journey to getting better is kind of realistic. He doesn't suddenly show up being super strong and knowing all the martial arts in the world. That said, I'm still questioning where the police of this town is with a full scale gang war on their doorstep. Also now that I'm thinking about it, how many guys did the Noroshi guys bring? It's like an unending sea of people.
BOOM - nirei building himself up BOOM - SUO FIGHTING, LOCKING IN, AND STILL NOT GETTING HIT BOOM - sakura and sugishita TRULY locking in
seeing the growth between both sakura and sugishita is so great because deep down they both care about each other and the same people. they are great rivals but know how to defeat the same enemy and i am so glad they are both now able to complete such tasks.
again i canNOT get over how good this manga is.
