After agreeing to Aristide's proposal, Melphiera is whisked off to Galbraith before winter settles in Marchalrayd. But first, a brief overnight detour to Fort Ritterd. Melphiera is excited about the opportunity to supplement the knights' porridge with a healthy dose of protein-from monsters, of course! Will she win over the hearts of the knights of Galbraith with her unusual cuisine? And will Aristide be able to keep himself from erupting with jealousy? Moreover, there's something troubling about the Duke…and there seems to be a connection to Melphiera's late mother?!
I don't know why, but I wasn't quite as sold on this volume as the previous ones, and I am so so so bummed about that!
I LOVED volume one and the different elements that had me giggling when reading it! I wouldn't say this volume doesn't have those elements because our leads pretty much spend their time cooking and chatting together, which is my favorite part, so I don't know what's not "clicking" for me?
I'm not fully sure, but I THINK it might be that I want more of the focus back on the romantic side of this story rather than the story fleshing out making it a deeper one. That's definitely not a bad thing because I'm so glad we are learning more about the characters and what they like, and don't like as well as why they do the things they do. That's exciting! But I think I miss how "cute" the first volume was and how it was focused on the leads coming together over food, which again is in this volume, but somehow it doesn't quite hit the same.
Still a fun story and love how everyone is getting hooked on monster meat as well as the leads growing closer together (they even have pet names for one another now EEEEEPP)! While I'm a little unsure about continuing this series, I still had a great time reading this volume and felt SUPER hungry by the end of it! LOL! It sounds like our Blood-Mad Duke doesn't have a a very happy backstory, so I'll have to brace myself for that if/when I read the next volume since it seems that's what will be getting at the beginning of volume four!
If you're looking for a foodie meets fantasy shoujo, this is one I would still highly recommend checking out!
This volume achieved the balance I was looking for in volume two. The leads are partners with a similar mission, but they are first and foremost two characters in love. They are constantly celebrating each other, and I love the equality and openess they have together.
This is just so cute. Think Delicious Dungeon but romance forward.
Recap: Melphie jazzes up the porridge the knights make with her monster meat, some cute jealousy and wholesome scenes between the Duke and her. Then he leaves to expel some magic and catches her a fish monster. Whole group works on cleaning up the fish and then frying it. They all eat together and she learns about new pairings with her prepared fish. She plans to use her knowledge to make sure the Duke doesn't die from his magic.
I must say I loved volume 1 but so far 2 and 3 have felt like transition volumes. In a way I feel 2 and 3 could have been combined together in 1 book cause much of the content doesn’t seem all that important to keep in right now. Which who knows maybe as it continues onwards this will be all important info. But as far as I am concerned it feels like the plot got kinda lost with the delays to get to the next place which is when the next chapter of our newly engaged couple’s life should start. I’ll continue this series, but I dearly hope that the next volumes will have more substance to the storyline as well as our main couple.
This couple is so squishably cute -- the scene that cinched it for me was when the Duke was sulking in the doorway since he was jealous that Melphie was giving his soldiers a taste of the monster meat before him. This is definitely a #hefallsfirst romance, especially since Melphie still doesn't fully grasp why he's interested in her in the first place and not realizing that everything that she does -- all of her kindnesses to his men, her enthusiasm for monsters (studying and eating) -- are reasons enough for him to fall for her.

What to say…it’s fun, and kind of a cooking manga at this point, but the pacing is a little uneven and there is some inconsistency. Like she gives one knight a piece of meat to try, and a few pages later she asks him if he’d like a piece of the meat. And the duke and Melphie make earnest pronouncements to each other, but TBH they’re unnecessary and feel out of place. It’s very melodramatic.
I’m still enjoying the series, but it could use editing and polishing.

I don't have an interest in continuing, but this series maintained the lighthearted cuteness. Melphie gains more monster-eating allies in the form of Astride's knights. They also reach the pet name status and Astride reveals some of his past to her.
They also share something in common with the Fairly Odd Parents with the magic
What I thought was missing in volume 2 came alive even in the first pages of volume 3! The background continues to be light, but that was never the main focus on this book and the background (what we get) is always very well rendered. This volume in my opini0n made up for what was lacking in volume 2 and had me excited for the next installment.
Awww! So cute! I am loving their progression. He opens up to her. She shows how her mother passed away. They keep growing closer. But I also enjoy seeing how she is working to make good relationships with the knights. She is proving that monster meat is edible, good and a source they can use to avoid more death in famine. This is fantastic.
Omg I love them so muchhhhh! Melphie and Aristide were so freaking cute and the romance was completely on point in this volume. The pet name conversation and teasing had me in a literal puddle.
MF, romantasy, royalty, heroine must marry or become nun, monster hunters, cooking montage
okay the fried monster fish looked SO delicious haha...especially wrapped in the leaves and with the citrus. yum! this volume had so much sweetness between melphiera and aristide...very cute :3

Still fun. Watching them fry fish for most of the volume wasn't the most engaging activity, but I still really like the world and the relationship between the leads.
The duke and Melphie are getting closer but I wish she wouldn't be so clueless about things. At least we got to see her resolve here in supporting her future mans.
