A heart breaking tearjerker once again from this inspirational author. There's always room for waifs and strays at the Battersea Tavern run by landlady Winnie Berry. London 1952 and this is book four in the series. Little Grace Lockwood an orphan child living with her grandmother Bertha, who is not getting any better with her health dying on her bed she does not want her granddaughter put in a children's home. Grace finds herself having to steal food to feed them both, when Winnie witness this she takes her under her wings and gives her a home at the tavern, along with her family Grace is welcomed and misses her grandmother it takes a good while before she settles down, bringing trouble to Winnie's door. Is there hope for this orphan? What a unique read, it will have you crying buckets chapter after chapter, that is full of up's and down's throughout the story with a few shares of disasters, this landlady is tough and wont give up or in to anyone, The Battersea Tavern will always be Winnie's work and home and her door will always be home, any trouble you "Get outta my pub". Loved it! Loved the characters! it's a definite family saga to read with that magic touch of the cockney east end London banter for all to enjoy.
I found this book quite difficult to enjoy. There were so many things happening that it just ended up seeming quite far fetched. And though the title mentions the orphans hope, there isn't nearly enough about Grace in the book for her to be the focus. I have always enjoyed Kitty Neales books but I can't say I enjoyed this one.
I was so looking forward to this book and was definitely not disappointed ...... I just wish I had taken longer to read it! I have read everyone of Kitty Neales books, and would definitely recommend them!!!!!
I have really enjoyed An Orphan's hope. I feel I know all the people from Battersea Tavern. I couldn't put the book down. I'm going to miss the goings on in and around Battersea. Thankyou Sam Michaels.
