read this if you want a book set in london with a grumpy x sunshine romance between an aspiring artist and a professional irish tennis player. flora (aka flossie) was such an endearing female lead and kieran was a notorious bad boy with a lot of depth. i highly recommend the audiobook— the narrator did a fantastic job!

To be clear, this was not an enemies to lovers romance. It wasn't even rivals to lovers. They mildly disliked each other for about 3 days at best. SO, if you're going into this wanting an ermines to lovers, this isn't it.
Usually, one of my big criticisms of sports romances is there isn't enough of the sport but I thought the tennis scenes were well done. They were engaging, fast paced and had just enough detail for the reader to understand the rules of the game without info dumping all over us. The culture of Wimbledon was interesting to read about and the silence of the crowd during the tennis scenes helped to boost the tension.
Plot wise, some things felt really silly and contrived. The prologue and the epilogue were the worst of it for me. The scale of drama reminded me of a telenova or something. The middle chunk of the book was enjoyable though and the plot seemed slightly more realistic. The pace moved quickly which helped to keep it engaging and fun.
Part of the disappointment around this book was definitely a me problem. 'Match Point' is more Hallmark than it is 'Challengers' but the latter was more what I was in the mood for. Any casual romance reader will probably like this but these things I've mentioned really dampened the enjoyment for me. 2.5 stars rounded up to 3 for netgalley.

This was such a surprise to me! I hadn’t heard about this book or had it recommended so I went with zero expectations…. And it was 5 ⭐️ for the vibes!
An adorable, charming, silly, fun, romantic read! It’s a sports romance with forced proximity (yes, accidental roomies!!), enemies to lovers, miscommunication, and a grand gesture HEA! So all the things we love!
There was some fun, smoochy stuff, so much banter, romance, overcoming individual personal and family journeys, loss, and of course, tennis! Honestly, if men like Kieran are playing tennis, get me a skirt and a racket! He was so sexy and broody but also supportive warm. I was obsessed… almost as obsessed as he was with Flora. Flora was a fun, creative, funny, empathetic, loving FMC and I loved her right away. I love a book that follows a woman that I would love to be friends with!
I could have read 300 more pages about these two- loved the book! A 5 ⭐️ that snuck up on me- it was just so entertaining!! Add it to your TBR asap!

Matchpoint is een cutesy dislike to lovers (ik weiger om dit enemies to lovers te noemen) waarbij de hoofdpersonages zichzelf en elkaar beter leren kennen. De setting was ook heel leuk en origineel, namelijk de tenniswereld in Wimbledon. Ik had nog nooit een romance gelezen waarin tennis een van de cruciale aspecten was, dus dat was heel fijn! Ze hebben samen ook terug de weg gevonden naar hun eigen passies en dat vond ik er heel mooi aan. Persoonlijk vond ik de conflicten dan weer niet matuur wat er voor zorgde dat mijn rating naar beneden ging. Kortom: een toffe read met een leuke cover!

i'm the next Wimbledon men's winner, everyone put their money on me right now. yes i have never played tennis and yes im technically totally a woman but put ur money in me, ppl. you probably maybe won't regret it.
a book that talked so much about tennis while talking so little about tennis.
but my god if any book made me want to pick up a tennis racket and some strawberries and cream it's this one. i learned absolutely nothing about tennis and maybe that's a good thing. yeah i probably wouldn't like it if i actually knew what it was like but let me dream, ok? im not hurting anyone (as of right now)

Io vi sfido a trovare un tennis romance così coinvolgente, pieno di partite di tennis descritte BENISSIMO, in maniera comprensibile, come se fossi lì a guardare il sudore gocciolare e la pallina rimbalzare, sentire l’odore dell’erba e il silenzio assordante durante un match point. Sfido a trovare un tennista così BONO e tatone e che abbia un’evoluzione psicologica così intensa, una protagonista tenace, agguerrita e il capitolo 20 OH SIGNORE IL CAPITOLO VENTIIII VOI URLERETE!!!!

Mi chiedo: perché non l’ho letto prima?
Ho finito #MatchPoint di #KatherineReilly
e mi è piaciuto moltissimo!
È una romantic comedy simpaticissima con un pizzico di spicy (non cringe, grazie al cielo).
Flora affitta il suo appartamento a Wimbledon con l’idea di andare via per un po’, ma per colpa di un imprevisto la sua vacanza va in malora. Il problema è che il nuovo inquilino è già arrivato ed è un tennista molto famoso.
Non si sopportano, è ovvio che sia così: lui è scorbutico e maleducato, lei gli sta in mezzo ai piedi. Eppure presto le scintille tra loro faranno fuoco e fiamme.
Kieran è quello che perde la testa per primo, ma non abbiamo il suo POV per saperlo. Lo scopriamo solo quando finalmente si confessa. Entrambi sono tanto di supporto, si aiutano a vicenda a raggiungere gli obiettivi. Ho adorato tutto! La storia è molto scorrevole, dolce. Un libro bello!
Perde mezzo punto solo perché secondo me la tensione doveva durare un 15-20% in più nella storia!
Per il resto, mi ha tenuta incollata!

Unasked for former tennis fan opinions on tennis incoming.
- Umpires do not say 'set point' on set point
- Keiran's coach Neil should have been written as his agent for this story to make sense
- No self respecting tennis fan calls it 'Murray Mound' (love Andy, but it's Henman Hill)
- Strawberries and cream in Wimbledon is served in a box not a bowl
- I'm not sure why the author made up random players for MP to play against and then had McEnroe and Serena name dropped in it (I also guess Henman and Murray exist in this universe cos they're mentioned regarding the Hill)
- I cannot think of a tennis player (not even the Big 4) who would make the front page of a tabloid for the things this guy does
- I'm not sure if ranking is never mentioned in this or if I missed because they often call Kieran 'unseeded'
- Saying 'there are always surprises at Wimbledon' when before last year the same 4 guys had won it for like 20 years is a choice
In non tennis, the premise for this makes absolutely no sense. Agreeing to this arrangement with a man you've never met after apparently illegally sub-letting through an agent is kind of bonkers. I also feel like the player in question would likely call a lawyer instead of acting like he does.
More than that, the advertising is completely wrong. It's not enemies to lovers, it's people who don't like each other when they meet and are fine with each other on day 3. It's also really hard to believe someone vulnerable and sensitive would be spilling his guts to a woman he's known a handful of weeks if he had trust issues.

Gostei muito deste livrinho! Apesar de ser um pouco clichê e nada que não tenhamos já visto, a história é extremamente fofa! 🥹🫶🏼 Adorei a parte do ténis e da competição!! O relato da final parecia mesmo um relato de um jogo da rádio 🤭
Só não gostei de, no início, eles passarem de odiar-se a amar-se de um momento para o outro. Achei tudo muito rápido…

The beginning started off a bit rough for me. It felt a bit too formulaic and the banter was so juvenile and cheesy that I couldn’t buy into it. The conflict that was being brought up made sense but it felt like a stretch. I think the ideas were there, it could’ve just been executed better.
I enjoyed the drama at the end, and it felt more fun and acceptable cheesy romance. If you’re looking for a fun, easy and light sports romance that you don’t want to think too much about, this might be a good one.

Previsível do início ao fim, foi mesmo um romance do mais clichê que pode haver. Gostei, li rápido e apetecia-me mesmo por ser sobre ténis e com foco no Wimbledon, mas achei muito fantasiado e com partes desnecessárias e chatas (mais na segunda metade do livro)

I admit, I think I have never before read a sports romance, at least I can't remember that I ever read one; thus I wasn't entirely sure what to expect here.
What I got was a solid forced-proximity, grumpy-sunshine, and sort of enemies-to-lovers summer romance centred mostly around the famous Wimbledon tournament.
The book has great characters, a lovely story, some spice, and a lot of humour in it. The writing is good and flows well, and the book is easy and enjoyable to read. I laughed some, I cried some, I developed a massive dislike - and even some levels of hate - for some of the side characters, I rooted for Flora and Kieran.
It's a sweet-with-a-touch-of-spice story that has even some good life advice and a few great quotes in it.
I enjoyed it a lot and found myself well entertained and, at the end of the day, that's what books for casual entertainment are about. Not every book one reads needs to be a life-changing, Nobel price worthy piece of world's greatest literature and ingenuity to be a good book. Sometimes a good book is a book that provides the entertainment or distraction you're after, just as a movie or TV show does for those who choose these instead of a book, and that's okay. Perfectly fine even.
I can recommend this as an easy-going summer, vacation, or beach read, or just for someone wanting to escape into a tennis romance instead of a Hallmark movie.

Wimbledon, uprostřed léta, vzduchem se nesou zvuky úderů tenisových míčků a vůně jahod se šlehačkou… Pokud hledáte tip na letní čtení pak určitě zbystřete! Kniha Na kurtu je totiž na léto ideální volba.😍
Hlavní hrdinkou příběhu je Flora, která potřebuje po nepovedeném vztahu nový začátek. Rozhodne se pronajmout svůj byt ve Wimbledonu a odjet do Jezerní oblasti načerpat inspiraci. Jenže osud rozhodne jinak a ona je nucena zůstat doma. Její byt si ale pronajme Kieran – hvězdný tenista s bouřlivou pověstí. Tihle dva se ocitnou pod jednou střechou a ani jeden nehodlá odejít. A jiskření na sebe nenechá dlouho čekat.🔥
Tohle čtení pro mě bylo obrovské překvapení. Čekala jsem letní romantickou oddechovku, což jsem samozřejmě dostala, ale tohle byla rom-com jako vyšitá – hlavní hrdinové si totiž nejdřív lezou pořádně na nervy, ale čím více času spolu stráví, tím více mezi nimi roste porozumění a napětí. Autorka nešetří vtipnými momenty a dialogy, takže se kniha četla téměř sama. Řeší se tu i vážnější témata, která chytí za srdce, ale zároveň nehrozí žádné hektolitry prolitých slz. Prostě super zábavné čtení, které má hloubku, a které si užijete od začátku do konce.👌🏻
Postavy mi byly moc sympatické – Flora je klidná umělkyně, která potřebuje nový start, a Kieran horkokrevný irský tenista, který touží po poslední šanci na vítězství – úžasná kombinace dvou protikladů, které se vzájemně doplňují. Pokud máte rádi nucenou blízkost, vztah od nepřátelství k lásce, který se vyvíjí pomalu, ale zároveň je plný žhavého jiskření, tak tady budete nadšení. Také moc oceňuji sportovní tématiku, která tentokrát čtenářům přiblíží svět tenisu.🎾
Pokud hledáte čtení na léto, které je nenáročné, a přesto nabité emocemi, vtipné i dojemné, romantické i žhavé, tak Na kurtu je přesně ta správná volba. A pokud neholdujete sportu, tak to vůbec nevadí – tuhle knihu si užijete i tak. Já jsem nadšená a určitě se k tomuto příběhu ráda vrátím i do budoucna. Doporučuji!🩵

Pokud hledáte čtení na léto, které je nenáročné, a přesto nabité emocemi, vtipné i dojemné, romantické i žhavé, tak Na kurtu je přesně ta správná volba. A pokud neholdujete sportu, tak to vůbec nevadí – tuhle knihu si užijete i tak. Já jsem nadšená a určitě se k tomuto příběhu ráda vrátím i do budoucna. Doporučuji!🩵

Wat een heerlijke sportromance! Ik was gelijk vanaf de eerste pagina gelijk helemaal verslaafd aan dit boek! Al van kleins af aan ben ik een enorme liefhebber van tennis, maar ik had nog niet eerder een boek gelezen waarin deze fijne sport een rol speelde. I loved it! Genieten! Tijdens het lezen kreeg ik helemaal zin om de baan op te gaan. En zeg nu zelf: die cover is toch ook heerlijk?
Katherine Reilly heeft een vlotte, beeldende schrijfstijl, waardoor ik door het boek heen vloog (al werd het verhaal iets trager in het middenstuk). Ze weet precies hoe ze de chemie tussen de hoofdpersonages van de pagina’s kan laten spatten, maar ze zorgt ook voor een duidelijke persoonlijke groei bij hen. Kieran is écht een van mijn nieuwe crushes!
Wat mij betreft is dit boek een dikke aanrader! Een heerlijke roman die leest als een romantische komedie. Ben jij fan van tennis, de tropes grumpy x sunshine, forced proximity én ben jij dol op de romans van Hannah Grace? Dan is dit boek absoluut een match met jou!

Finally a tennis romance!!! This was a wholesome story with the most lovely, supportive and selfless FMC. Flora’s insecurities were honest, relatable and it showed what the power of having someone believe in you can achieve. I just bought myself snoopy pyjamas - what are the chances!!
Epilogue wasn’t my cup of tea at all but other than that I was pleasantly surprised by this book. Just what I needed after a heavy fantasy read 🫶🏻

It’s so cheesy but I loved it 🥲🫶🏼🎾👟✨ Her name is Flora and she’s an aspiring artist and he’s a snob tennis player, he’s renting her apartment for a month during the Wimbledon tournament and they end up sharing it. Grumpy x sunshine, forced proximity, sports romance, celebrity romance, single pov. It’s giving “the alchemy” by Taylor Swift (“where’s the trophy, he just comes running over to me”).
