Amir and his ragtag team of arcanists have made it the second round. All the weak competitors have been eliminated, and only teams with synergy and strategy remain.
Some teams overwhelm their opponents with dragons. Some use illusions and trickery. If Amir only had to focus on the fighting, perhaps things wouldn’t be so difficult, but problems outside the tournament also need his attention.
Sage’s brother might get executed. Master Elias’s old rivals come calling. And one of the competitors might have hired an assassin…
Amir and his two mystical creatures, Roux and Wren, will have to use every trick in the book if they hope to stay in the running for the crown!
Shami Stovall is a multi-award-winning author of fantasy and science fiction. Before that, she taught history and criminal law at the college level, and loved every second. When she’s not reading fascinating articles and books about ancient China or the Byzantine Empire, Stovall can be found playing way too many video games, especially RPGs and tactics simulators.

I'm amazed at all of the issues in this series. Constant grammatical errors. Contradicting ideas even built within the same sentence. One example at the end of this book read something like, "It is still in the middle of the night, but it was a cloudless day." Not verbatim, but yea...
Also, universal truths were created in other series that created this world. This series absolutely ignores these facts.
It was rare to go two pages without seeing some type of issue. Hard to believe a middle schooler could make this many mistakes writing a book. Possibly written by AI and never edited by a real person. But, there were even an egregious amount of mistakes for an AI generated book.
I only finished this book out of sheer acceptance of how bad it was and my love for the world that was originally created.
The authors did such an amazing job with this book! I love Shami Stovall’s arcanist series so much and this book does not disappoint! The magic in this book was so cool, and the focus on aspects that we did not get to explore as much in the previous books! I really loved the characters in this book so everyone is unique and so cool! Loved all the new creature in this book and getting to see the world in such a cool. In this there was one my favorite description of a fantasy city! I am also eagerly awaiting book 3 cause of the cliff but it’s a great scene to end at! Highly recommend this book one of my favorites
I was hooked from beginning to end. There was not a time that I didn't enjoy while reading. These two authors work together as well as Wrens Winning Team! The level of care and excitement that went to each and every fight had me craving to read more. Amir continues to grow his abilities and shows his leadership with each new challenge and has a perfect synergy with his eldrin. I cannot wait for the next book in the series to come out sp we can find out what happens next! I will be absolutely keeping an eye out for any other collaborations that either Shami or Ryan are apart of!!
Amir and his friends continue to find themselves in harrowing circumstances and defy all odds! My only problem is the extensive grammatical mistakes and seeming inconsistencies from one paragraph to the next in describing some situations (could also just be my interpretation). It just feels like the book wasn’t proofread and edited before being published. However, I continue to love the story and this entire universe continues to be my new favorite!
I've always loved this world and all of the cool eldrin. This story is very interesting, but there are way too many errors and contradictions in both this and the first book. For example, In the first book, Amir and Roux could communicate telepathically l, but in this one it's only one way from Roux, which was very odd. I also don't recall it being impossible to use two types of magic at once, but maybe I'm misremembering? That being said, I'm excited for the finale, but I hope more time is put into it .
Another out of the park, edge of your seat masterpiece!
Just like every time I read from Stovall I found myself jumping out of my seat, gasping out loud, laughing, and even crying. As I’ve come to expect from her I couldn’t put down this absolutely amazing journey of a book.
The only sad thing is that now that I’ve read every one of her books to date I must wait for more.
Usually Stovall's books are really enjoyable but this book has so many mistakes. It feels like this book was written by someone who hadn't read any of Stovall's other books. I noticed this in the first of the series but it has really affected my enjoyment this time around.
I'm excited to see where the sto ry goes next. These arcanist stories are always reliable in letting the reader dive deep into a new world. Can't wait to see what adventures our heroes get into with the next book.
I love the Arcanist series by Shami Stovall and am really enjoying the group book series! The only issue I'm having is the large amount of typos I've found in the book. Always makes me reread a sentence to make sure I read it correctly.
I was crying at the end of this novel. I was not expecting the drama and emotional toll. Best so far. I need them to release the 3rd one quickly. Best out of all the series thus far.
