Light is streaming beneath the door to the actors’ lounge. Actress Kate Sachs steps into the room to turn it off. A man in a mask is hiding in the shadows and her director lies crumpled in a corner, unconscious. The man attacks her, but runs away when he hears a noise. After the police arrive and her director is rushed to the hospital, Kate goes home, never suspecting that everything she holds dear is now in jeopardy. But when the man in the mask threatens her family, she fights back, and in a deadly game of cat and mouse, the hunted becomes the hunter.
Like Kate Sachs, the protagonist of my novel, Deadly Play, I know what it’s like to be a struggling actress, having appeared on stage and in dozens of soap operas and movies as an extra.
Unlike Kate, I never landed a starring role on television, so to make a living, I started a consulting firm specializing in training (with a theatrical flair!) and corporate communications. But that gypsy in my soul, as a friend dubbed my creative muse, was only in hiding. She popped out one day and refused to leave me alone. Deadly Play is the result of her persistence.
I live in New England with my husband and daughter, and am working on a sequel to Deadly Play.
WOW!!! What an ending! Stayed up late into the night to finish this one. Kept thinking I had hit the end, but there was another chapter with another new twist or turn. Thanks to goodreads give aways for introducing me to this author.
"Deadly Play" is an excellent work of crime fiction. The plot is fast paced and exciting. M.K. Perkins does a wonderful job of creating a story in which you don't know which of the characters are the good guys and which are the criminals. You won't want to put the book down and you'll keep reading so you can discover what happens next.
