Presenting with illustrations and special features, this book distils centuries of history into an overview of Ancient Rome, enhanced with the voices of Romans in their own words. Exploring the intriguing origins of the ancient Romans, it looks at what made this civilization so unique.
I dipped into this rather than reading cover to cover as we were watching Rome and Spartacus at the time and I wanted to validate things. Or argue with them!
I read this for one of my Classics classes while at university, and it was just okay. Fine for a basic intro, I suppose, but no real depth was given. Other overviews I've read were better, and I didn't find myself referring to this text very often, but other books from past classes instead.
