Maisy joins her friends for a busy day at nursery. Maisy loves going to nursery. There's so much fun to be had, with all her friends and their teacher - singing at Music Time, a nap a Quiet Time, listening at Book Time and then Play Time in the Garden. What a day!
Lucy Cousins, BA Honours in Graphic Design from The Faculty of Arts and Architecture, Brighton Polytechnic, postgraduate degree from Royal College of Art, is an author-illustrator of children's books. She is best known for her books featuring Maisy Mouse but she has also published other children's books including one about Noah's Ark. She is a mother of four and lives in Hampshire, England. Reeve loved it. Reeve says: "Maisy Goes to Preschool" paints some pictures on the wall, and eats snacks. Then it was quiet time. Then "Maisy Goes to Preschool" goes out on the playground. Then "Maisy Goes to Preschool" paints some colors. So Maisy and her friends got paint all over them, so they washed their hands. So that squirrel played on the sandbox. Then Maisy drove in the toy car. And Maisy says goodbye to her friends.

This is a really cute and simple book about a young mouse’s first day of preschool. It walks you through a day from arriving and putting your things away in a cubby, to art time, to nap time, to music time...all the fun and exciting activities!
This is a great book to read to a child just starting daycare or preschool to help get them excited and show them how much fun they’ll have! Very enjoyable.
With bright child-like illustrations the reader follows Maisy and her friends through a day of preschool. All the animals in Mr. Peacock's class are engaged and happy as they greet each other, paint, and enjoy snack time, story time and nap time. The simple text is very comforting and the exuberant illustrations are filled with fun. This is a great book for any child that may be apprehensive about starting preschool.
I like Cousins' books for their simple stories and brightly-colored illustrations. This book introduces toddlers/preschoolers to the idea of going to school. Maisy is going to preschool, where she paints, plays with her friends, uses the potty, snacktime and naptime. Her school is a lot like my son’s daycare, as far as the kind of things they do during the day. Recommended for ages 3-5, 4 stars.
Thoroughly conveys the joyful bliss and optimism from preschool, before institutionalized learning crushes the hope out of students.
I understand that Mr. Peacock wants to feel beloved by all students, but that doesn't excuse not correcting Dotty's grammar. "And that's Maisy and me dancing"? Maisy and I, Dotty. Maisy and I.
Maisy Goes to Preschool: A Maisy First Experiences Book by Lucy Cousins
Read this twice for preschool class. They loved finding a connection to the book, seeing how their life is similar to their favorite character. the kids like having things they can identify. This book nurtures a personal connection to the books.
As much as it feels wrong rating what is effectively a condensed cartoon I can't help but praise this an the other maisy stories. My two year old finds them so entertaining. They are so simple, fun and just perfect to read to her before bed. Brilliant.
In which we learn that Tullulah is kind of "conscientious" and does stuff like remind the other kids to wash their hands. Bonus points for the opportunity to talk about the potty without being a book about potty training.
The Maisie books were huge hits with our youngest. There is something about the funny individuality of each character, the bold, bright colours and thick black lines that is inimitable with Cousin’s style and deeply attractive to young audiences.
With over 50 million books sold across the world, Cousins is firmly of that same famed camp as Spot and Kipper, coming out a year after the former. Cousin’s franchise though remains incredible strong and her picturebooks are possibly more versatile and explorative (Peck, Peck, Peck being a lovely example).
Moving closer perhaps to a more anthropomorphic child-like character with Maisie*, Cousins places our protagonist in many situations that her younger readers will be able to associate with. I always enjoyed this particular book as it had a male teacher, Mr Peacock, working in the nursery. Also, Maisie on the loo chatting to her girlfriends has me laughing – a subtle scenario to remind children to wash their hands!
A sweet introduction to what the early years ‘could and should’ be like. All the other Maisie books are lovely as well.
*Considering Maisie goes to preschool she seems unerringly adult and self-sufficient in many of the other stories. Best not to dwell on the mechanics of what/who she is.
We're so proud of you for reading "Maisy Goes to Preschool"! What a wonderful book! You learned that starting something new, like school, can feel a little scary at first, but it becomes fun when you make friends and try new things. Just like Maisy, you can be brave when you go to new places or meet new people. Remember, everyone feels nervous sometimes, and that's okay! You did such an amazing job reading this book all by yourself. We love you so much!

Missy and her friends are cheerful and lovable. In this Missy book she attends preschool and does many enjoyable things throughout the day, including painting, nap time, and outdoor play. Short enough read and too the point, will capture interest for young children going to preschool for the first time and give a positive impression.
The Maisy First Experiences Books deliver as promised: offering succinct, informative narratives coupled with familiar characters and bright block colours. This one is ideal for preparing toddlers for the basic structure of preschool and highlighting the fun to be had there.
I guess if you have a reluctant kid who won't be comfortable in a preschool setting, this book would be a great place to build comfort and familiarity with the preschool environment. But, my kids seemed to always be comfortable being anywhere other kids were. We read it and moved on.
This was a cute and easy book that I enjoyed. I bought this book to read to my niece because she is about to start school, but she is anxious, so this book helped her prepare a little! She liked the book because it had a lot of “bright colours” in it.
This is a great little introduction to what a typical day at preschool might look like. It doesn’t address any misgivings a child might have about starting school. It just depicts the characters being happy and confident at school.
My 4 year old is about to start preschool and this book made her extremely excited to start! She said “5 stars. I really liked it and hope my preschool is like that!”
Sweet little book ideal for children about to begin preschool. My grandson had me read this book and a couple more (Rosie Goes to Preschool was best) repeatedly.
