Without Option could have been my 4 stars read. But sadly, it turned out to be a little better than mediocre. I like the story and the main plot but not so much for subplots, they just didn't help giving any excitement t the plot. There are too many unnecessary romance and sex scenes that it seems like no women can resist Jake Adams....and some of those plot did not help with the plot nor story line. Yes, I'm annoying because I felt like watching the 70's James Bond...where sleeping around is part of being a spy. Despite Without Options being an action espionage thriller the action scenes are so mundane and so easy. Especially Jake Adams. He has it too easy. He doesn't have to try much to success in any missions. I got this book for free from audio plus, the narrator is fine. The lack of thrill is mainly because the book, itself.
Still in the search for the espionage book/series that I long for (after reading the 'Victor the Assassin' and the 'John Rain' series), I stumbled on this one series of Jake Adams. It's a 10-book series, and I see potential, UNFORTUNATELY, for whatever dumb reason, I started with this one (which I think is Book 6).
Now, with that being said: I liked this a lot. It diverted me on long drives, and I felt connected to the characters. Looking for an escape? I'd urge a dabble into this series. But start with Book 1. Really! :-)
I'll go back and read book one here in a little while, once I'm done with the current book I'm in now.
A better story than the others I have read by Scott in that it kept me current with all the involved characters without spending too much time on the secondary ones that mattered in the end. I was left with a possible follow-up with the Russian General for a future book and left wondering what part a key player would have in it. Recommended.
A great book for me is when I don't skip to the last chapter to find out how it all ended...This was a GREAT BOOK, hard to put down even when the Sandman was screaming at me to close my eyes and fall asleep. Sleep was secondary, " Jake Adams "was primary .
