The whole premise of this book is incredibly interesting to me, but I found the plot a bit boring and lack luster. I am also having a hard time connecting to the characters, which is difficult for me because I value books that are highly character driven. Part of me wants to give it another chance at some point just because the local lore is something I absolutely love reading about, but for the time being I am just going to put it off to the side. I am trying to get better at allowing myself to DNF books rather than forcing myself through one that just isn't gripping my attention. So better luck next time maybe!
If you like books about urban legends, local folklore, and mysterious creatures, this series is for you. I started with this second book in the series as it revolved around a town not far from where I live in Wisconsin. It was neat how the author wove their own mystery while incorporating established local legends into the tale. I will definitely be picking up another book in this series. The only negative I could say is that there were some repetitive paragraphs. Other than that, I thought it was a good read. ;)
I met the author at a book fair and found it interesting how she wove folklore and cryptids into her stories. I started with the first in the series Sinister Bay. That book establishes a lot of character backgrounds for this book and the events at the end of it lead into this one. I was hooked right off the bat and finished the book in a week. Can’t wait to read the next in the series.
