Refreshing

Hardcore LitRPG - very Russian. Down to earth, rugged, and excellent. Emotions are very well done, especially concerning combats effects.

A Wanna be Sociopath

An Ideal World for a Sociopath: Book 1 by Oleg Sapphire presents a chilling exploration of the mind of a sociopath in a world where their traits are not only accepted but celebrated. While the premise is intriguing, the execution falls short of expectations, delivering a narrative that struggles to stand out amidst its contemporaries in the psychological thriller genre.

15 Anime Archers Who Always Hit Their Mark! - MyAnimeList.net

Sapphire's writing style is dark and atmospheric, creating a sense of unease that permeates every page. However, the plot feels formulaic, with predictable twists and turns that fail to surprise or captivate the reader. The pacing is uneven, with long stretches of exposition punctuated by brief moments of action.

Cautious Hero: The Hero Is Overpowered but Overly Cautious |

In this book, readers are introduced to the protagonist, a sociopath navigating a world where their lack of empathy and remorse is not only tolerated but admired. As they navigate the complexities of their relationships and societal expectations, they are forced to confront the darkness within themselves and the consequences of their actions.

When compared to its contemporaries in the psychological thriller genre, such as Gillian Flynn's Gone Girl or Paula Hawkins' The Girl on the Train, An Ideal World for a Sociopath falls short in terms of depth and complexity. The characters lack the depth and nuance that make these novels so compelling, and the plot fails to deliver the same level of tension and suspense.

Aoi_Sakurai_(RAIL_WARS).gif

Moreover, the character development in this book feels lacking, with the protagonist and supporting cast failing to undergo any meaningful growth or evolution throughout the narrative. Their actions feel arbitrary and disconnected from any sense of internal logic or consistency, making it difficult for the reader to invest in their fates.

Animation Reference, Flash Animation, Anime Love, Ecchi Neko ...

In conclusion, while An Ideal World for a Sociopath: Book 1 offers an intriguing premise and some chilling moments, it ultimately fails to deliver a compelling and cohesive narrative. Readers looking for a gripping psychological thriller may find themselves disappointed by its lackluster execution and shallow characterizations.

This is a pretty standard litrpg story with a new alien "system" taking control of earth. It's not particularly well done. The "system" is not well explained nor are the mechanics of the changes consistent or creative. Still, it began as a pretty fun read. The MC is OP from a lucky encounter and runs around like a badass killing monsters. The "hook" in the title about him being a sociopath is mostly a lie but it was still enjoyable. Then it suddenly took a terrible nose dive.
We learn that this monster killing badass becomes a simpering, pathetic, loser when in the presence of a female. He freezes and wets himself like the world's most extreme coward when he has to speak to them.
The females make fun of him for it constantly even though he goes out of his way to save their lives and make them better. His behavior is revolting and I can't blame the females for not respecting him.
I can't understand why the author would take a half decent (3ish start) story and trash it so badly.

An okay apocalypse book.

But the premise is faulty. The main character is not a sociopath. He's got plenty of social anxiety and rather amoral, but he is not a sociopath. The general balance is off so this is an okay read but nothing special.

A decent showing.

Story wise, it is not groundbreaking in any aspect and does present some inconsistencies. However, it does have a pinch of creativity and does well in keeping the reader engaged. The progress is balanced, particularly in matters of gaining power, though the evolution of characters and plot is a mix of stagnant and neckbreaking. One distinct gripe I have is the protagonist's inability to keep to his word in regards to promises he makes about eliminating his enemies. I've noticed this is a theme in all of the author's works.

The prose, while far from great, does not detract from the story. There's not much more I can say in that regard. Competent enough but uninspired.

Now, on to characters. I don't like the protagonist. Firstly, he is most definitely not a sociopath. Sociopathy, which, clinically speaking, cannot be cured, nor does their disregard for others have exceptios-children, innocents, or any other. Not that I mind that the protagonist isn't one, but it is a glaring flaw in presentation, and so I thought to mention it first. Secondly, and, in my opinion, the more aggravating characteristic is his particular awkwardness with women. And not awkward in a oblivious type of way, but awkward like he's a hormone-filled teenager who's just discovered his attraction to the opposite sex and is too deluded to understand. Furthermore, his shift from I don't care to I'll act a hero was way too swift. Lastly, no other characters made any sort of progression, though I suppose it should be commended that they at least remained consistent.

All in all, a relatively enjoyable tale pulled down by few but potent flaws.

An Ideal world for a sociopath is the first book in a series about earth being brought into a new system. We see the system is still learning, sometimes being helpful, sometimes being snarky, but always being mysterious. Zombies abound (of course they do), and while I'm generally not a zombie story fan, I have no issue with the way they're handled in this one. I'm actually looking forward to the next book in the series. I typically really like books where earth itself is actually made part of a system, and this book is no exception to that rule (though I have found a few that are). This is certainly worth the read if you're a LitRPG fan.

I had this book for so many months, but didn't read it because it looked like another Russian Zombie litrpg.

I read the author's other works (such as The Healer’s Way, and a few others, and they were fun. So I'm willing to give this a try.
It's short, but I feel it will be like the other Russian books I read. Where half the population is turned into Zombies, and the protag is going to be one who doesn't mind caving in a few skulls. Will see how it goes.

This wasn't too bad. A guy with crippling Social Anxiety kills without remorse. I enjoyed it better than the "A Student wants to live" books. As this protag isn't as arrogant and self centered like that Blood Lord guy.

I will pick up the sequel.

Book one

While I did receive an ARC of this book, it looks like they didn't correct all the mistakes that I sent them. Don't really know why. I'll message them again and try and get it cleaned up more.
The mistakes I noticed will be on Goodreads.

I enjoyed the ARC so much that when this book was released I read it again.
I usually read a book once and never read it again.
The MC reminds me of myself at times. In that he doesn't really understand people or how to deal with them.
Lots of loot and lots of zombie killing.

good book, Woolworth, the read, sensible, MC. book, wor

I liked this book very much. The MC is a sociopath, but his personality seems to be changing. Good world building excellent side cast of characters. Love the fact that the MC has no compunction as far as killing zombies or bad guys, no moralizing or philosophizing just gets the job done. I am going to read the rest of the books in this series because I enjoyed this one. The idioms are a little bit off due to translation, but that’s acceptable. Go ahead and read this book and this series.

Solid, fun read. Setting is a system apocalypse type scenario, except with zombies. Lots of zombies. Fairly traditional litRPG with stats, leveling, loot, etc.

The book was originally written in Russian and the prose is noticeably different. Not bad - but you can tell it's not Western prose. If you've read other Russian authors, you know what I'm referring to.

MC is moderately overpowered, but not insanely so. Lots of action and the story moves along at a fast pace.

Fun book overall.

I recommend
The apocalypse is realistic. The system rewards those who defeat people of their own species, encouraging what seems unfair, and the surprise is even greater when we discover that this makes it easier to find the bad guys. When the rules determine who is the strongest, you are left with a choice between who to join and whether you will have the strength to add your own rules.
The mechanics of the world are based on loot boxes and inventory capacity.
It helps you understand the hero's hunger for progress and their pragmatic approach to life.

best zombie apocalypse book of 2024

This was a lot better than the cover makes you think it will be. What’s a socially arkward archer supposed to do when the zombie apocalypse begins? Shoot ish of course! Zombies, human murauders, insects, windows, whatever and whoever comes to get him has to get got first. It’s a rocking good time with just enough cynicism tinged with hope that it grabs your attention and never lets it go

Just AWESOMENESS

I love these books. The M.C. thinks he's a sociopath, I think he rates on the Autism Spectrum. I would really like to know what the author was thinking when he wrote this.

This was a good first book the worlds set up the rules explained and we've bonded with the characters. I look forward to seeing where this goes.

Reading the reviews I expected this to be worse and way more problematic. As the author says at the end, he created a fictional world and in that world this character fits the description of sociopathy. He's for sure antisocial but whether he has antisocial personality disorder (which is the official diagnosis for what we call psychopathy and sociopathy) is a question for him and his therapist.

Good fun read. Good pacing and dialogue

This was a fun read. The book had some basic editing issues but nothing major. The main character was fun and entertaining as his world opened up and his social anxieties dictated his actions. More of an anti-hero, it was a fun simple easy fast-paced to read. Look forward to book two.

An ideal world for a sociopath

This is my fist book by Oleg Sapphire but I greatly enjoyed his writing style. The plot moved quickly while giving you an interesting look into an unusual protagonist. I look forward to seeing what he can do with this series.

Really nice but needs SERIOUS editing!

The protagonist is a loner but definitely not a sociopath.

For me it was really strange why the friendly group faces such problems while worse organised groups fare so much better for no good reason..

amusing

I enjoyed this. Nothing new or groundbreaking, but well done and enjoyable nonetheless. The MCs personality was kinda funny. Not quite a sociopath though, which to be honest I’m kinda glad. Will read book two.

Cool

I'm going with 4 stars because despite the ever-present need of a proofreader on the backend of the translation, and there is a harsh section, it was a genuinely entertaining book, basic apocal-lit-rpg.

A fairly fun read. While the MC isn't a pure sociopath he's clearly willing to kill anyone or anything that gets in his way. Combat is well written and often brutal. All in all an excellent first book.

Really good

This was a very fun read. The MC is kind of hard to root for at first, but he does evolve as the story goes on. I'm looking forward to the next one.

Highly recommended.
