Rate this book
THIRD PLACE winner of The BookFest Awards - Thriller - Pyschological Division

Sean Hagerty is a retired Special Operations Soldier with over 25 years of experience. This gave him a unique perspective for a fiction series about saving missing children. While this story is fiction...the knowledge behind the missions is based on real experience and teachings.

By day, we're your neighbors. Your boss. Your teacher. By night, we hunt the monsters who hunt our children.

As a Special Operations soldier, Dane Cooper was trained and tested to handle the toughest, most dangerous situations around the world. He was not, however, prepared for the abduction of his daughter.

That kidnapping sends him into a downward spiral, the depths of which are unknown even to Dane. But a lifeline is thrown to him by a mysterious cabal, which sees his skills as paramount to helping others.

Now investigating other grieving parents' cases, Dane must conceal his efforts from the zeal of an FBI agent hot on the trail of the vigilante cabal, a dedicated Virginia Bureau of Investigation team, and an elusive network of monsters at the center of it all. Punishing the wicked while searching for his little angel, Dane must also overcome the struggle with his own demons.

Chilling, Savage, and Exciting
Dane Cooper is a spec ops soldier cut from a familiar mold. He’s tough, resilient, intelligent, dedicated. As strong and courageous as this man has been, there’s not much he hasn’t been able to do. Except to be there for his family when their daughter was kidnapped. This one act of inhumanity brought an end to his marriage, created a rift between Dane and his son, and shattered his career. His entire life is in tatters, and the one thing he holds onto as his identity, his special operations career, is in danger of being taken from him if he can’t get himself together. It’s not looking good for this man who appears to be losing everything in “Jones Point” by Sean Hagerty.

But a series of “coincidences” puts Dane in touch with a man who can help. In a cryptic conversation he reveals to Dane that a cabal exists that seeks to save children who have been kidnapped and to mete out justice to the monsters who are responsible- those often untouchable by official means.

Humanity was doomed to fall like the Roman Empire due to the simple fact of entitlement and selfishness.

This cabal operates in an extra-legal capacity, meaning they will do what needs to be done to bring children home. By any means possible. This enigmatic gentleman believes Dane would be an excellent fit for this secretive organization. He knows all about Dane, his skillset, his tragedy, and his downfall. He believes Dane will find what he needs as he seeks to help others.

This is an intriguing twist on the classic justice for missing children story, and quite well done. Mr. Hagerty provides his readers with a seat-of-your-pants thrill ride as he drops clues on us like Hansel and Gretel leaving breadcrumbs. The intricacies of the storyline are immense, and I’ll admit to a degree of frustration as each new chapter allowed a glimpse into brief conversations with unknown people. Who were these people labeled with such benign names as Pupil, Keeper, Scout, President, and Recruiter? Were these the good guys or the bad guys? I drove myself insane trying to unravel these clues before they were ready. But that touch of OCD insanity is mine alone; these brief glimpses of conversation are terrific, though miniscule, foretastes of what lies ahead.

This story provides great themes of redemption and retribution in gloriously fulfilling ways. As a fast-paced, thought-provoking thriller it is perfect for fans of military/spec ops action, criminal suspense, and street justice thrillers. It speaks deeply to those of us who appreciate the liberties we have as citizens, but who cringe when those liberties protect the black hats from being arrested.

Based on this read, it’s fair to assume that Sean Haggerty has more to say along these lines and will be revisiting “Jones Point” and its stellar cast of characters. Hopefully soon. I’ll be watching for it.

Excellent debut novel about an elite soldier recruited to hunt pedophiles. Dane Cooper is the creme de la creme of elite soldiers. While deployed overseas, his daughter is kidnapped, which puts him in a downward spiral. Law enforcement has few leads and the trail turns cold, further ruining his life. Other children continue to disappear. When approached by a mysterious stranger, Cooper is offered a job as part of a very secretive "club" that tracks down child predators, albeit outside the law.

The story starts off strong and is definitely a page turner. The pace does not let up throughout. This is not the typical Jason Bourne-esque book, but rather an interesting look into some of the tactics, techniques, and procedures used by clandestine operators. There were a few loose ends and some of the font choices were a little off, but overall an excellent, exciting, and entertaining read. Well done!
