Keep You To Myself

Rate this book
Chaotic peace was the only way Synovi Black could explain his life to those who had questions. He never understood why they asked because an answer was never given; it was none of their business. For her, he’d break it down, however. Weave through the complexities of his upbringing, urging her to get comfortable and reside in chaos by his side.

His world became hers, and she became his.

Flawed but perfect in her eyes, Torin Kaine adapts to Synovi’s meek yet assertive presence. Breaking down barriers, making his stand-offish personality open up to her, she finds a crack in his wounded heart, gains comfort, and remains.

Simplistically, Torin eases his troubled mind. She becomes someone Synovi cherishes, making him not want to ever share her with anyone else. Please Keep You To Myself is book #1 in the Unorthodox Love series, a series of interconnected standalone contemporary urban romance books with no cliffhangers.

- So in love with this story and these characters omg!!! I didn’t want to put this book down. It was such an easy read and there were parts of this story that had my jaw on the FLOOR!!
- The way this author writes makes the characters come alive! I already bought the second book because I NEED more of this story.
- If you enjoy Natasha Bishops easy writing that has a few twists and turns you’ll love this book. It gave that 90’s movie kind of love vibes and I can’t get enough!

“Why do you call me that?”
“What? Love?”
“Mhm.”
“’Cause that’s what you are,” he replied with ease. “That’s what you feel like.”

Outside of his GiGi, Synovi had no example or representation of what real love was. It wasn’t until he crossed paths with Torin that he was engulfed with feelings of love. The chest tightening, suffocating kind. Synovi had a very rough upbringing and I wanted to hug him into my bosom the entire book. Just when you thought he finally found his footing, he took two steps forward only to be knocked back ten!

I absolutely loved how Raquel’s wild child self “forced” him to be her friend because that friendship led to him finding the love he never thought possible. Torin was a real gem and after they recovered from their initial meeting, she wanted nothing more than to see Synovi win! She was rooting for him hard and she showed through actions that she was a real rider behind Synovi!

This was a real tragedy to triumph story and I loved every moment of it! Ms. Reid was a favorite in this book and we need more people like her in the real world. The drama and plot twists were unexpected and added a nice touch to the overall story as well. If you haven’t already, add this to your TBR today!!

4.8 ⭐️ Ughh I really liked the way Synovi conducted himself, his nonchalant attitude, and the way he was sincere and honest. His journey through life hasn't been fair, but after an unexpected encounter with Racquel, he meets fiery chef Torin. Despite his youth, Synovi was a man at heart, and I adored how Torin never treated him with indifference because of his circumstances. When it came to their sentiments for one another, Torin and Synovi were open and considerate of one another's emotional, physical, and financial needs. Reading about a partnership that wasn't toxic was a refreshing change. Speaking of toxic, that Jade and her husband Silas/Onyx plot twist was MESSY and not what I had anticipated. With two children and a husband at home, Jade certainly wasn't acting like a married woman the lady was crazy but that's what good and young dick would do to you. Due to the way, she was first introduced, I had hoped for a Racquel plot. I wanted to see more of her presence, especially how she briefly ingratiated herself into Synovi's life. It was a delight to read about Synovi, who is now living a happy, healthy life with his family and friends. I was completely engrossed from the start, wondering how it would turn upwards. I really just wanted him to win.

Triumphant Love

I love a story of triumph and this was just that for Synovi. Synovi has a hard life. The past of his parents left him growing up with no sense of home and at 22, he was still floating along with no solid foundation. I just wanted to give him a hug, it seemed like every time he got his footing something would knock him off his square. A lesser man would have found himself dead or in jail. Instead Synovi did his best to keep taking steps forward.

One random night put Racquel in his orbit, which led to him meeting Tarin. The woman that would change his life. There was an immediate pull between them, but she also saw his potential. Tarin was a real one. These women that side eye $30 for lunch would never 😒. Despite his circumstances she never switched up and continued to treat him like the man he was. Synovi needed that consistent support and Tarin was right there for him, even when jaded azz fake married Jade did all she could to sabotage their love. Overall this book was sweet and endearing, you will just want them to win. I also appreciated the non toxic love they shared.

Okay Ms. Danae make a believer out of me, this book was so good and the editing was done right 👏🏾👏🏾 Good rec book friends!

The audiobook to Keep You To Myself made my ears happy. I enjoyed listening to this audiobook and wish it didn’t have to end.

Synovi was my guy! He didn’t let his upbringing prevent him from being successful!

Torin was the real MVP! She always saw potential in Synovi and always came up with ways for him to maximize his potential.

“Everyone needs a you on their team, but that’s too bad ’cause I’m keeping you all to myself.”

4.5⭐️- This is that FEEL good love story. I absolutely loved how they stood by each other through everything. And those plot twists? I was floored, literally left with my mouth hanging open. You know how romances can sometimes feel a bit repetitive? This one was completely unique, and I enjoyed every single moment of it!

Love ❤️

Synovi saving Raquel’s life wasn’t how he imagined meeting the love of his Torin. Synovi was trying to keep his head above it all because of his past trauma and being a ward of the state. Torin was young beautiful, successful, and loving life making a name for herself but like Synovi was holding on to her past because it was comfortable. I’m still in shock with how these two met because I for sure thought he was going to end up with Raquel lol. Raquel’s “I’m not letting you go as my friend” energy is what I believe cracked the armor of Synovi being open to new people in his life. I loved his dynamic with Gigi. Gigi kept it real with everyone tbh. The Unique situation broke my heart because while I understand Synovi’s pain I also understood Unique’s and I’m glad she got the last laugh with Omar. Omar, Jade, Chelsea, and Don were terrible and honestly, I’m glad they got cut off and handled the way they did. Torin going to get her man after a misunderstanding was the right move because Synovi needed that reassurance. I enjoyed this romance of learning to not let your past keep you from your future and letting it go so that you can move forward, even when it is uncomfortable. Lots of sweet life lessons with a really sweet love in this book! I hope to see more stories to come, especially a book for Raquel!

It’s Synovi for me!!! His journey to healing, forgiveness, & love was EVERYTHING & MORE. This book really ate down. His attitude was aggravating me in the beginning but that changed. Torin was just what he needed and he was definitely what she needed Miss. Charlottes Web 🤭🌶️

Raquel & GiGi where my favorite characters they Needed more scenes. The way she forced that man to be her friend was cute.

The plot twist in this book was WILD. I really didn’t see that coming. 😳

Jade is the definition of DELUU & thats that on that. 🙄

I’m so glad we got to see Synovi win🥹but I feel like the ending wasn’t enough which is why I give it 4.5 stars.

Torin was just what he needed!! The twists & turn in this book kept me on the edge of my seat!! I was NOT prepared for everything that happened!! This was definitely a page turner & a must read!! 🥰

It started off good…

I hate books with six degrees of separation or too many damn coincidences. Just add more characters. I also didn’t like Synovi and how he treated Torin. She started off strong and then devolved into a “yes daddy” type of chick. I want her to match his strength and rudeness with her own especially since that’s what attracted him to her. Instead the story turned into a “he knows best” type of situation.

Spoiler

I almost dnf when he disappeared on her after her ex showed up. To me she stuck with him when his “ex” tried to ruin her business but he dipped cuz a dude knocked on her door. She didn’t even let him in. I was disappointed when his GiGi made his insecurities her fault and made her feel she had to apologize for that. I wish Torin’s character would’ve stayed a main character instead turning into his supporting character.

This was a good palate cleanser and one to get me out of this February slump that I’ve been in because it was pretty fast paced and kept me entertained.
I didn’t care for any of the characters in the beginning but I loved Synovi’s character growth and how he made something of himself with little to nothing to work with besides the support and encouragement from Torin. She saw HIM and not his circumstances.
Torin’s sister was so annoying at the beginning and then she just fell off the face of the earth. Like what was her purpose? I feel like Synovi and Torin’s introduction could have been worked in a way that fit the story a bit more.
The “plot twist” was a little ridiculous and was giving Tyler Perry Sistas type of drama but hey… like I said entertaining nevertheless.

5 freaking STARS!!!

Listen! I’m not a fan of books written in third person but this book right here!!!! Omggg! I almost didn’t read it because it was written in third person. I’m glad I gave it a shot because it really is GOLDEN!

I have a special place in my book heart for Synovi Black!! This man went through TOO MUCH in life. Life just wasn’t fair to him. But Ms. Torin came in and gave him nothing but love and light and gave him hope to BOSS TF UP in life! Rags to riches fasho!

I will probably always think about this book.

BriAnn Danae you ate this one up!!!

3.95/5 stars!!!

As usual, I was very weary when starting this book LOL. However, I really ended up liking this!! I like how intricate the story was and how true strife and struggle was shown, and I just overall really liked both Synovi and Torin! They were so cute together and had a lot of strong chemistry i could feel throughout the book. It had my emotions running HIGH and ya'll know i love a good emotional rollercoaster.

However....LMAOOO there were some...downsides. For one, I could not stand the use of the word 'females' in this book, and this book also gave deep fried instagram 2014 picture energy. Like at some parts it just got really headass, "If my man ask me to make him a sandwich at 3am imma do it, I don't understand the women who wouldn't" type weirdo energy that gave me the ick. Soo I couldn't really give it the full 4 stars. It just had this weird undertone throughout...that I really can't explain. I know it comes with the territory of reading urban books, but eh. I'm just here for the romance PLEASE not the terrible twitter thinkpiece topics.

Also...The whole Silas/Omar whoever the hell part was kind of...extra in my opinion. Yes coincidences exist, but there was almost TOO many in this book. I know life can be that way sometimes, but...it got a lil too coincidental "Oh all of a sudden we are in the same circles" "oh all of a SuDdEn this happens" Like.....ehhhhhdhhdhshsh. And then the random Don cameo only for him to be in the book for like a chapter seemed....again– too coincidental. Pack it up.

BUT I really enjoyed how realistic (for the most part) Synovi's background and story was. Something I also could really get behind was how emotionally aware and communicative they were throughout their relationship as well which was super refreshing to see! I also liked that Synovi and Torin didn't spend too much time doing the push and pull "oh we shouldn't" "oh we should" game, cause if you pass 25 at your big age you too grown for all that and I can't stand that trope if its not a YA book.

Lastly, I really hope that we get Bostyn's story, I'm so upset that this is a standalone and not a series, but I'm hoping it becomes a series OF standalones!!!

Final thoughts are that this was my first book from this author and I will be waiting on more in the future for sure! The writing style, the way it flowed, and just overall read was amazing. This was a quick lil read that I really didn't want to end.

LOVE .

i definitely this book was going to be a love story between raquel & synovi.. but the connection between torin & synovi was everything! im normally not a romance girly but this book had enough drama for a five star rating!

i lovvvvved how the story started with background of how synovi was raised and the dysfunction that resulted from
that. seeing his character develop throughout the book with learning how to love and be open & transparent was everything.

loved raquel's character and how she forced him to open up even when he was hesitant. i wish we had more of her in the story than just in the beginning.

torin.. reminds me a lot of myself. love when an author can make a character relateable!

overall i enjoyed this read. will definitely be back for more!

This book drew me in with its heartfelt portrayal of love, growth, and ambition. I loved the relationship between Torin and Synovi, especially how Torin, as an entrepreneur, provided unwavering support for Synovi’s career aspirations. Torin’s encouragement was beautiful, as it allowed Synovi to take control of his path and find confidence in himself. Watching Synovi’s journey of accepting and giving love felt genuine and deeply moving. This story beautifully captured how transformative love can be when partners uplift each other.

100 ⭐️'s!!

when we met synovi and torin in here with you forever , i just knew i needed to read their book! and SISSS, i'm telling you their story is just *chef's kiss* OMGGG

i was quite literally HOOKED when i picked this up, from start to finish... and needless to say, i completely devoured all 300+ pages, it was insane! torin and synovi have one of the realest and rawest love stories i've ever read, it was so beautiful how it all panned out. them two finding each other was destiny, and i am here for ALL OF IT!

now, i am obsessed with racquel (torin's sister) - she is my standout character for this book! i know there is another book in this series, so hopefully we get to see more of her, and hopefully an unravelling love story to come... FINGERS CROSSED bc sis, i love her character bad!

now, onto one of my new fave otp's of ALL TIME, torin came into this book and i loved her from the jump! (it must be a sister thing, because her and racquel are my 2 fav characters!) the way she put synovi in his place from the beginning will always be my favourite thing ever! we love an independent and confident sis! now synovi... i will admit, when we first met him and found out he was messing around with a married woman, i was a bit hesitant. but i will say he definitely redeemed himself later on, and i love how he loves torin - they are just so meant to be, it's crazy! (and yes, i understand it's a book and the characters are supposed to fall in love... just leave me alone. let a girl be happy. geez :LL)

anywhoooo, if you haven't picked this book up yet, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!? respectfully, this book should be right at the TOP of your tbr, i don't care what anyone says!
top tier romance, a killer plot twist (or plot twists*) & some super lovable and relatable characters!

the way i'm so obsessed with this book, 10s right across the board!

Synovi's journey towards healing, forgiveness, and love was heartwarming. I love how he was a young black man who had it rough growing up but was able to pull himself up, face his trauma, and still become a boss without resorting to the street life. Torin came into his life at the right time and was everything he needed her to be for him during one of the toughest patches in his life.

Not Jade acting delulu over Synovi when she had a whole husband at home. No way in hell did she actually think lying and leaving false negative reviews about Torin’s business would make Synovi go back to being her side nigga

I loved Synovi nonchalant attitude. Synovi and Racquel becoming friends led to Synovi finding love outside of GiGi. Synovi meeting Torin was him finally finding love. Synovi gave off a tough exterior but he just wanted to be loved. Unique getting her justice was well deserved. I loved all those who supported Synovi and wanted to see him do great. This was a great read. I lowkey want a spin-off for Racquel so she could find love too

Im a little stingy with my five stars, but I absolutely loved the character development in this book. Synovi grew from a mean boy with limited resources, to an entrepreneur with his new found Love. Him & Torin’s relationship was exciting to watch progress. I was screaming for a proposal! I’m really in my romance girl era, gaining a new book boyfriend with every read. Can’t wait to read more books by this author!

This was a really sweet book. The way these two showed up for each other was so beautiful & free of judgement.

I really love how Torin was portrayed in this book. You read a lot of books where the MMC had a tough upbringing but to watch her just simply show up and stay there and him slowly break his hard exterior down because of it was so sweet!

😤😤😤😤

How could this happen to me!
I've made my mistakes
Got nowhere to run
The night goes on as my interest in this book keeps fading away
I'm sick of this thing
I just wanna screeeeeeeam, "How could this happen to meeeeeeee?"

Why does this keep happening to me! Literally 81% of the way through and I just can't keep going. For me the story just took a turn down a path of ridiculousness and I just can no longer partake. And what pisses me off the most is the fact that there was so much promise and potential. I was enjoying Synovi and Torin. I was invested, intrigued, engaged...all the things. And thennnnn....ridiculousness!!!

Sooo, I want to move on. I want to read my next book and I'm not going to feel comfortable doing that until I get closure from this book, and that closure doesn't seem to be possible in the form of finishing the book, because I just CAN'T --- soooo. ISSA NO FOR ME DAWG.

Maybe next time!
