Part of the PICK YOUR POISON series, this collection of titillating terror is perfect for all types of horror fans. Here were my favorites:
- “Body on the Beach” by Karly Latham was chilling in its description of the carnage a group of sailors encountered. My only problem was I wanted more. (Hopefully Karly reads this and continues with this story).
- If you weren’t already scared of spiders, you might be after reading the creepy “Webs” by Cassandra Daucus.
- “Up Snake Road” by Jessica Gleason provided a creepy slow burn vibe as a couple who rented a cabin find another couple already there. That one ended somewhat abruptly, as I would’ve loved for the author to have expanded on the big reveal.
- “Swap Meet” by A.D. Jones was a shockingly gruesome tale of why you don’t let strangers into your home.
- “Desert People” by Evan Purcell had a terrifying twist that I was not expecting.
- “Summoning the Hag” by Jason A. Jones was a perfectly horrifying Halloween tale about who not to bully.
- “Merry” by Mallory Cywinski brilliantly shows why you’re never too old to believe in the spirit of Christmas. It could save your life.

Well this was very fun! A great anthology with something for everyone- no two stories are even vaguely alike and they’re all genius. Love an anthology for its readability and this one is just brilliant- go check it out!

Spoilers ahead… rather than a traditional review I thought I’d share some of my annotations (in no particular order!) Once again- here be spoilers- look away now if you object to that kind of thing!

Some of the annotations from my read of this;

-I’m so confused but also terrified, so mission accomplished
- I knew I liked elves
- Testing my gag reflex in the worst ways
- New fear unlocked
- Creepy AF
- I could totally believe the [redacted] are holding the [redacted] underneath it all
- The arsehole boyfriend is the real horror here
- Eeeeekkkkk
- Actual shivers, f*cking edged again!
- I’ll steer clear thanks
- It’s ok I never wanted to go to a [redacted] anyway
- Nothing good comes from f*cking with people who own 🐷

Intrigued? Let me know if you read it! I wish I could have the patience to read a story a month- it’s a great premise and the seasonal reads would be really fitting to that kind of read.

Twelve horror stories, read one a month…… yeah ok. I challenge anyone to finish any one of these stories and be able to put the book down for a month!

I make no exaggeration when I say each and every one of these stories is a masterpiece of short story horror writing. The absolute A-game was brought to the table across the board here from everyone.
No two stories feel even remotely similar and there’s something for everyone - assuming you love gross and gory things. Violent, psychological, creepy, supernatural, depraved and lovecraftian…. Seriously this book will tick so many boxes.

Usually with anthologies I will pick out a couple that really hit the spot for me to talk about, but I’d really struggle to do so here. Prepare yourself for horror at its finest, settle in with a blanket, grabs some snacks and try to relax.
