Susan F. Craft’s series, The Great Wagon Road, has added a new, exciting third book, Trail to Love. Can Michael Harrigan, a young widower, accompanied in the wagon train by his sister-in-law and her flirtatious friend, make a favorable impression on Anne Forbes? Anne has immigrated from Scotland with her brother’s family, acting as nanny but also employing skills as a tailor and seamstress. The dangers and problems the wagon train and Michael and Anne in particular run into are very believable.
Anne seems so capable of doing almost anything needed, plus having a calming, take charge attitude, I was actually relieved to see her have a few flaws! However, I loved seeing how she chose to forgive others that wronged her, making friends out of those who could have been enemies.
I was most impressed by Michael’s quick thought to turn to prayer in trouble and his leadership ability, as well as his quickness to help those in need.
It was fun to see the beauty of the country through the eyes of someone who had never seen much of America before. It was really interesting also, to see how the adventuresome, entrepreneurial attitude of the settlers was something that drew one in and attached itself to others.
A fave character in the book is Cate. So grown-up, polite, yet adventurous and loving all in one package.
Author’s notes at the back offer some insight into different historical aspects of the story.

Great characters! This is a great story that touches the heart with the lives of friends and family on the trails. Many trials to endure, some leave the heart aching and others make it soar with happiness and love. I enjoy the time frame of the 1700’s and picturing how different and untamed the land must have been. The Indian community and friendships that were formed are fun and have you feeling pulled into the experience. From beginning to end the plot holds your attention and keeps you entertained. This is so much more than a romance but a story of family, community and finding one’s self in the midst of all the unknown. A well written story that I didn’t want to end, I will definitely be reading more from Susan Craft!

Susan F. Craft kept me turning pages until late at night to see how this colonial wagon train romance would end.
Anne was an independent spinster traveling with her brother’s family. I loved how she planned her career as a seamstress even though she was on the journey with family. Her personality was sweet and engaging.
I loved Michael’s character too. His faith and protective nature mixed with his humor were a delight to read. His relationship with his daughter brought a smile to my face.
The journey from Philadelphia to the Carolinas was fraught with danger. I loved the way the author wrote the meeting scene between Anne and Michael. I also enjoyed how the sweet, clean romance unfolded as each character grew. The faith elements felt realistic and added a nice dimension to the story.
Fans of Christian historical romance will enjoy this colonial tale.

“Trail to Love” held me captive and touched my heart. What a wonderful journey back to the 1700s, with a blend of risk, romance, and restful moments. It was a difficult journey witnessing the hardships and danger, making the elements of faith so important.
Vivid descriptions, great characters (love Cate, Anne, and Michael), sweet romance, and believable history make a don’t-wanna-put-down book – and my favorite in this series.
If you enjoy Christian historical fiction and satisfying redemption stories, I think you’ll enjoy this as much as I did. It’s not a light and fluffy kind of book, so know that in advance, but that makes the redemptive ending that much sweeter.

Trail to love (Great Wagon Road Book 3) is an excellent historical fiction romance by Susan F. Craft. The first two book in the series were wonderful too but something about these characters just won my heart over early in the story. Then to meet Michael’s daughter Cate was simply icing on the cake sort to speak.
A story of faith without being overbearing or preachy. It doe make you wonder how anyone from the past or today can make a go of life without God in their lives. Anne and Michael certainly could not. The dangers on the trail were less from other characters and more of the kind that began in the town before they left for the trail. Still heartache and sorrow can be found anywhere. The conclusion was just as satisfying as the rest of the book. I highly recommend this series to readers of historical fiction, especially 1700’s when much of the eastern United States colonies are still being settled.

This is my first time reading a book by Susan F. Craft, and I absolutely loved Trail to Love. Craft has a wonderful way of blending historical detail with a heartfelt romance that feels both authentic and uplifting. This Christian Historical Romance, set during the era of wagon trains, captured my attention right from the start.
Trail to Love follows Anne Forbes, a woman grieving the loss of her fiancé who seems to have given up on the idea of love. As she embarks on a wagon train journey to South Carolina with her brother’s family, her life takes an unexpected turn when she meets Michael Harrigan, a widowed father. This is a wonderful book that explores traveling by wagon on treacherous land. The story captures what it was like during the 1700s. Families were excited to reach their destination but soon they will find challenges that will test their faith. It was easy to imagine myself on the wagon train as the dust surround the travelers.
There is tragedy as a disease spreads throughout the wagon train before they are ready to start their journey. I liked how several characters stepped up to help the sick. Anne is one of those who helps others even when she suffers a great loss. The author does a great job of illustrating the hardships travelers faced and how Anne was a strong and humble person. I liked how she makes a hard decision which puts her on a path to a new beginning.
Michael is a good man who has seen pain and loss in his life. When he helps Anne care for the sick, they form a relationship. He has such a good heart and is there to help others in need. I liked that he was never selfish and always thought of others first.
The story follows a group of people who long for a better life and hope for the future. The faith element in the story is strong and shows how the characters turned to God in time of need. It is a beautiful story where faith is tested, people work together and overcoming obstacles that bring them closer to each other and God. The ending is beautifully written and givers readers an illustration of how God helps others forgive, find hope and understand unconditional love.

What I think you should know:
Trail to Love by Susan F Craft is the third book in the Great Wagon Road series. It is a historical fiction set in 1753. It follows settlers as they travel from Pennsylvania to South Carolina along what was known as the Great Wagon Road. This book features seamstress Anne Harrigan and Lumber Mill owner Michael Harrigan
What you might need to know:
This is not a fluffy read, it gives a graphic and realistic view of what life would have been like for settlers. I would not recommend this book for immature readers as it does involve death.
What I think about this book:
This series just keeps getting better, which is high praise as I LOVED the first two books in the series. In this adventure we follow the wagon road with a train that is hit by smallpox instead of human forces. Anne is a confirmed spinster traveling with her brother and his family for new opportunities in South Carolina. Michael is escorting his sister in law home to North Carolina. When tragedy strikes the train Anne and Michael, survivors of smallpox are thrust into caring for the patients as they try to keep it from spreading. I really enjoyed watching them work together and how the author allowed this story to develop slowly and naturally. This was such a wonderful book, I look forward to what Craft has in store for Readers in the future.

Anne is a confirmed spinster traveling with her brother and his family for new opportunities in South Carolina. Michael is escorting his sister in law home to North Carolina. When tragedy strikes the train Anne and Michael, survivors of smallpox are thrust into caring for the patients as they try to keep it from spreading. I really enjoyed watching them work together and how the author allowed this story to develop slowly and naturally. This was such a wonderful book, I look forward to what Craft has in store for Readers in the future.

Christian Historical Romance is one of my favorite genre of books. Trail to Love by Susan F. Craft is Book 3 in the Great Wagon Road Series. I have been read this series from the beginning and have enjoyed the first 2 books.
The storyline grabbed my attention from the very beginning. I really LOVE the time setting of the book, the 1700's. The 2 main characters are Anne Forbes and Michael Harrigan. Both have recently lost the love of their life and are both trying to move forward with life. Anne lost her fiance and Michael lost his wife. Michael and Anne meet on the Wagon Train that is heading to South Carolina. Anne will be a caregiver to her 2 nephews and Michael has one daughter. The journey to South Carolina had many dangers and struggles. I really LOVE how Michael stepped up to help Anne and protect her from the dangers of the Wagon Trail. Anne and Michael work together to make sure their families and others on the Wagon are kept safe from the Disease going through the Wagon Trail. I truly love how their frienship grew into something more. There were many twists in the storyline, but those kept me intrigued in the storyline. The book is filled with Faith, Romance and showing care to others. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Christian Historical Romance. FABULOUS BOOK!

This is another adventure in the Great Wagon Road series, showing the early settlers as they make their way down to the Southern colonies. Most are looking for a new life, starting over, and hopefully to make their dreams come true. However, as I read, these trips are rife with challenges and unfortunately not all make it to the destinations.
Michael Harrigan, a widower, is bringing his sister-in-law and her friend to South Carolina. Anne and her brother and his family have come from Scotland to startup businesses of their own in the New World. What awaits them on this wagon train is more than some can deal with. Sickness abounds and the stamina of all are tested.
In the middle of all of this, Michael begins to realize that he may be falling in love with Anne. Could she feel the same way? There are obstacles in their way, especially one in the form of Amelia, the other lady he is escorting down South. She also has her eye on Michael.

Trail to Love is a sweet historical fiction novel. It involves wagon trains and love but not necessarily in that order. I’m a lover of historical fiction. It helps me to learn more about history. And I feel that that is something we all should be doing. Learning. Every day we need to be learning. Learning something new. Whether it’s a skill or simply knowledge.
I loved this novel. It’s sweet. It has a normal boy meeting a girl. They fall in love. The end. Or is it?
This is a fun novel. I love the nanny bit and the cute kids. I’m a sucker for cute kids obviously. The time period is earlier than I normally read about. It’s the 1700’s and the wagon train is taking them to South Carolina not out west.
I loved Michael and Anne’s characters. They’ve had hardships but they’re rising above them. Making do and carrying on. This was a great read and I highly recommend you read it as well!

This is book 3 in the Great Wagon Road series although it can be read as a standalone. A well crafted story that takes you on a perilous journey in 1753. It was a test of endurance, faith, and strength of character to complete the arduous adventure to follow your dream of a better life. I admire the people that attempted this and while some failed due to circumstances beyond their control they had what it took to at least try. Anne wants more than being a nanny to her nephews and holds the dream of being a tailor close to her heart, but when love nips at her heels will she run or accept the gift that God has placed in her life. She is a kind and compassionate woman willing to help others along the way and Michael admires her tenacity. Michael is a wonderful hero overcoming grief as he steps in to help. A tender tale with historical details that captures your heart. I’m so glad I discovered this author at the beginning of the series and I look forward to reading more. Pick up a copy and settle in for an enjoyable read.

The author's meticulous research shines through and makes both the characters and story plausible and realistic. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this as I did the other two books in this series. They don't overlap so each one is a standalone. Each book is about the triumphs and challenges of being on the Great Wagon Road in the 1700's. I learned so much about this time period but more than that, I was engrossed in the stories and the lives of the characters. Michael and Anne were made for each other although they both suffered tremendous grief. They are both caring, giving and thoughtful individuals. Michael is a widower and single father, but we don't meet his daughter until later in the book. She is a true delight! Anne is from Scotland and comes to the Colonies with her brother and his family to start a new life. She has a dream of owning her own tailor shop. I loved the interaction Michael & Anne had with the Indians. Such a wonderful part of the story. The author truly created a fantastic tale that immersed me in a wagon train life!

Great Wagon Road 1753 Philadelphia to Graniteville South Carolina in the Blue Ridge Mountains. I really loved reading this book. The characters are quite real and it's easy to get attached to each of them. The country and many of their experiences made me wish I was there with them, that I was taking part. I'm sure I'd love it there. The beauties along the trail, the experiences with the Native Americans and how gorgeous the farm is, and then Anne's dream after emigrating from Scotland unfolding to being a tailor/seamstress with her own shop. The dangers of the trail and the terrible experiences are all part of the unexpected path they traveled on, taking them exactly where God led them.

Trail to Love by Susan F. Craft is the third book in the Great Wagon Road series. In this story we meet Ann and Michael as they travel with the wagon train that goes to South Carolina. While being part of a series, this is an enjoyable stand alone story as well. I enjoyed how strong and caring the characters in this story are. This is a story of loss and moving forward as both of them lose someone close to them on the trail. Yet they both continue on to their new home. This is a great story of second chances and moving forward. I especially enjoyed the conversations Michael had with his brother and their thoughts on moving forward. I enjoyed how strong Ann is and how quickly she starts her business in the new town.
Having not read any book by this author prior to this series, I have totally enjoyed this series and look forward to more stories by her.

Trail to Love by Susan F. Craft is a Christian Historical Romance. It is the third installment in the Great Wagon Road series and chronicles the lives of Anne Forbes and Michael Harrigan. Both have lost people they love in the past and now, they find themselves working together to assist others on their wagon trains on their way to South Carolina. Through a smallpox outbreak and more, the two become more attracted to each other.
I loved how the author developed both the characters and the storyline. The book moved at a pace that kept my interest, and I loved seeing how the community members came together throughout the story.
While this book is part of a series, the books can be read individually. However, I recommend reading them all because they are so good.

The easy writing style and historical content of the novel made it a fairly quick read for me. Having spent part of my life near the Blue Ridge Mountains and in Scotland, and having Cherokee and Scottish heritages, I throughly enjoyed the look at their cultures and languages.
Michael’s past has grief and great loss, but he is such a kind, compassionate person in spite of it. Anne is seeking a new life in the Colonies with a lifelong dream to fulfill. Their paths cross and join together through joy, friendship, grief, tears, trust, and hard work. Their friendship becomes so much more as they face the hardships that come their way.

I have enjoyed the first two books from Susan F Craft’s Great Wagon Road series, Love’s Winding Road and Trail of Promises. I was excited to continue the series with the third installment, Trail to Love. I was not disappointed and thought it was a sweet book to read. I adored the main characters, Michael and Anne. I could not put their story down until I was completely finished. A beautiful and delightful tale.
I am giving Trail to love five stars. I highly recommend it for readers who love to read clean historical romance. I would love if there would be more to come from the Great Wagon Road series, as well as, author, Susan F. Craft.

I have been enjoying this series. I like how this series takes us on a journey with the wagon train and helped us to see different things that these people may have experienced. I liked how in this book we got to see Michael and Anne draw closer together as they went through some tough trials and learned to follow their dreams. I liked how they were able to help each other and fell in love through the shared experiences they had. I liked seeing Anne work hard to accomplish her dreams and to see her love what Michael loved. I thought this was a good story that was easy to read and had a good message.

This is Craft’s third book in her Great Wagon Trail series. It’s not necessary to read the first books – they all take place along the Great Wagon Trail, during the same time period, but characters do not overlap.
The things that the travelers experience are similar in all the books – encounters with Indians (good ones and bad ones), sickness, storms, wild animals, and unexpected love. The plot twists keep the reader on their toes. This was an enjoyable read, and I had a hard time putting it down.

"Draw Near" by Haddassah Treu is a great reminder that God uses all things for our good. Even if we don't see it at first when we are suffering. I really like the Declarations at the end of each chapter. The author also lists the losses and gains that you go through in each of the each issue of the painful experiences that she talks about. And it is surprising that the gains are more than the losses.She also have questions for you to answer and she lists meditation verses to study and a prayer. This is a book that I will reread.

New author to me & I've read all 3 books in the series. Great action & hard to stop reading. Both the h & H are outstanding & caring people who help others in ways that make a difference. Both observe the other to learn more about the other & keep helping others on the wagon trail as some come down with smallpox. The author loves researching history & includes historical details to give realism & provides a greater understanding for the reader to connect with past events & how people of that time were affected.

Ann and Michael meet on a wagon train and face many adventures together that bring them closer together. A story of faith, love, devotion, and reliance on God make this story a remarkable journey. One of my favorite passages is at the end of this story when Ann says to Michael, “It’s our dancing ground.” “Everyone has come home along their different trails. God is good.” Isn’t that just how life is! Different trails orchestrated by our heavenly Father.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It focuses on Anne and Michael and their journey to finding love. Anne is a strong woman and very independent. Michael is a widower with a child and no intention of ever marrying again until he meets Anne and she win his heart. It’s a very good story with lots of things going on. I recommend this book.

There was a biblical faith thread which I was glad for. I liked the epilogue to get a glimpse into their lives in the future. I look forward to reading more books by Susah F. Craft.

I was hooked from the first line: "Michael Harrigan stepped out of the Pig's Tail tavern and reeled as a blast of torrid air hit him squarely in his face." I appreciated the author's attention to detail in describing the people and life and the environment in Colonial times. It is a sweet and very inspirational novel, and I look forward to reading books 1 and 2 in this series.
