A stimulating and encouraging lecture arguing that the impact of Greek thought (and philosophy in particular) on Christian theology was a blessing rather than a curse.

My favorite quote: “That Platonists saw Christians as mistaken should be no bar to our recognizing the Hellenic philosophical traditions as essential engagements that made possible the great complex of Christian doctrine and providentially aided the drawing out of Scripture’s depths,” (50).

Excellent read. The first two thirds are easily 5 stars, arguing for God’s providence in the Christian development of doctrine in a hellenistic context. When he stretched the arguments to include liturgy, I was less convinced the hellenistic influence was good.
