Edinburgh-based writer Colin Salter is the author of 100 Letters That Changed The World, 100 Speeches That Changed The World and the co-author with Scott Christianson of 100 Books That Changed The World.
If you like books that are lists of books this is good. There's the usual suspects and the information about them is interesting. What I mainly noticed is that while some boos are much older than I realised, there aren't many modern books on the list - have books stopped changing the world or are we too close historically to see their impact?
Of course, my first book of the year is about books.
As the authors state in the introduction, of the 100 books they include, almost everyone will agree on 50. And almost everyone will disagree on the other 50. I think they were right.
For me, the best part of this book are the reminders of books I haven't read - and should. Plus, their descriptions of other books confirmed that I will probably never read those.
