Did not enjoy this book. What made me enjoy frontier summoner has been lost. The story is turning into a cash grab, trying to make this series as long as possible. The past two books in my opinion were incomplete, with no completed story. The last book was good, but I personally didn’t love it yet could see why people would. This book was just a let down. What I loved about Jack Bryce’s writing was his subtle foreshadowing for the next grand adventure, his slow burn romance, the coming together of the homestead. This story slowly went away from the theme of book 1-5.
Important events happen; the birth of Lucas, and the identity of his bloodline. I liked Lucas, so no complaints there but his bloodline reveal has been horrendous. Early on, he was called “goldblood” this made it obvious to fantasy readers he was a descendant from a gold dragon. So Yeska reveal was unimportant as we didn’t see her process, and she told us the obvious. At no point did she give advice, mention a new advantage from his bloodline, or talk about what draconic heritage means. So immediately he needs more answers… so the story follows him attempting to get more answers. BORING!
The past two stories have felt like a long plane ride, just waiting for the destination/reveal, just to find out it’s a layover and you need to wait even longer. The reason this is a two and not a one is because of the earlier additions. If book 8 comes out just as terrible, I will have to reconsider my opinion.
Why are you ending books without completing of the goal/story? I really wanna know, because many authors in the genre do this, and it turns me off the story. Like I read an entire book to find out about his bloodline just for it to end with “tomorrow I’ll visit the archives” that’s the cliffhanger?!? Like it’s not exciting, nor do I care to find out. All prior cliffhangers added a sense of excitement and mystery for the next book, while this just seems to be a bad writing.
I like the story but I find myself skimming through pages as there so much unnecessary detail. Everything anyone does is described in what amounts to romantic detail. It takes away from the thread of the story. Take out the unnecessary detail and this book would be a third shorter.
I got to say I liked a lot of this book. The detail of the scenery and landscape not to mention the dwarven culture is fantastic. Also the battle scenes. It's the sex fantasy scenes that are just rinse and repeat and all the inconsistencies that keep piling on top of each other that get me. Like it took him 2 weeks to build a 2 storie addition to the cabin complete with bathroom and cellar by himself basically. But it's taking him days with a dwarven helper to build a chicken koop. And what about a horse barn a hay shed? Or any of the other outbuildings you need for a farm. And why take 3 months to call the dwarf forward
David learns about fatherhood with his first child coming into the World .
David with Diane pregnancy expecting any time soon an getting ready for winter the homestead is alive an well . Adding chickens to the homestead David gets to making a chicken coop for the chickens to roost in peace . Then as expected Diane goes into labor having little Lucas an adding another member to the family as well .The family growing an expanding leaps an bounds . recommend reading excellent series .
The continuing saga of the Frontier Summoner will still thrill you with adventure, new challenges and the additional lady of the harem. I look forward to the next novel excitingly.
Most books of this type simply go from action scenes to bedroom scenes without character development or plot progression. Jack Bryce excels in painting a rich and detailed setting and emotions. It’s not emo, just very good writing.
Although you word smithing is repetitive at times within the same chapter almost appearing to be used as “filler” I still enjoy the underlying theme and vibe to continue reading your works. I like the feeling of purpose and Family in your work.
Still in it for the story. Self indulgent fiction Im too deep i to to abandon the plot. Some of the more adult material still gives me pause as it can be well, a bit unrealistic and not a small amount masogynistic. No new female character is safe!
