Van der Puff is de dorpsbakker en zijn winkel is een wereld van zoete wonderen. Tot Bridgets grote schrik is ze een ramp in bakken. Maar haar misbaksels komen goed van pas wanneer juffrouw Acrid de bakker uit wraak ontvoert. Gewapend met haar Bijtende Broodjes, Schreeuwende Slagroom en Klevende Cupcakes trekt Bridget eropuit om hem te bevrijden…

De Schotse kinderboekenauteur Martin Stewart schreef een heerlijke serie vol bijzondere personages, hilarische gebeurtenissen en vooral heel veel (mis)baksels. Met in elk deel een taartrecept.

"... on ne regrette que les choses qu'on n'a pas faites..."

Une lecture bonbon, savoureuse et délicieuse que j'ai aimé du début à la fin! C'est dans un univers sucré, magique et féerique que nous sommes transportés!

Bridget est une jeune fille qui vit à l'Orphelinat pour Enfants Zégarés. Sous la supervision de la vilaine Mlle Aigrebouche, Bridget ne peut qu'être malheureuse. Le jour où sa route croisera celle de M. Vanderpuff, grand pâtissier de renommée mondiale, c'est toute la vie de Bridget qui changera. Il tentera de lui enseigner la pâtisserie.... mais les talents de Bridget sont pour le moins surprenants! Mais qui a dit qu'un "cupcake ventouse" ne pouvait pas trouver son utilité?🤭

J'ai franchement aimé cette lecture, légère et pimpante, elle m'a fait sourire et passer un bien agréable moment de lecture!

Pas mal ce petit mélange entre le meilleur de Roald Dahl et du merveilleux culinaire. c'est sympathique, ça fonctionne bien et c'est très mignon. dès 9 ans.

Bridget zit in een weeshuis, waar ze niet echt gewaardeerd wordt. Ze doet dan ook niet altijd meteen wat er gevraagd wordt, maar heeft een eigen wijze waarop ze problemen oplost. Als ze bij meneervan der Puff gaat wonen, blijkt deze eigen wijze juist haar talent. Mooi verhaal. Geschikt vanaf groep 5.

Het begin was wat druk en misschien iets teveel van het goede (voor mij), daarna werd het beter. En iets rustiger.

Voor lezers die bijvoorbeeld houden van de boeken van David Walliams en andere gekke(re) verhalen, dan is Bridget van der Puff zeker wel een aanrader.

Skaitėm vertimą, abu juokėmės ir net pabaigoje buvusį receptą nusifotkinom - kepsim sausainius.

Ne didžioji literatūra, bet puikiai tinka 7+ galvelėm, o ir kalba neskurdi, naratyvas tikrai senas kaip pasaulis, bet yra smagių "tvistų", pvz. atida konditerijai. Sūnus visai mėgsta virtuvėje šalia suktis, o čia dar viskas smagiau, nes iš želė gimsta sprogstamieji įtaisai, o sausainiai virsta skustukais :)

Bridget van der Puff iseen avontuurlijke, inventieve en brutale durfal die dol is op lezen en alles wat ze doet perfect kan. Totdat ze geadopteerd wordt door de lokale bakker en ze erachter komt dat ze helemaal niet kan bakken! Gelukkig komen haar misbaksels op een gegeven moment toch goed van pas.

Er verdwijnt geregeld iets in haar enorme bos haar (het heeft al 3 borstels opgegeten!) en haar nieuwsgierigheid kent geen grenzen. De energie van Bridget is zo aanstekelijk dat je tijdens het lezen bijna op wil springen om met haar op avontuur te gaan.

Een heerlijk fantasierijk verhaal vol magie en woordgrapjes, grappige zwart-witillustraties én een heerlijk bakrecept op het einde.

Bridget Baxter is the very last orphan at the Orphanage for Errant Childs when Mr. Vanderpuff comes to whisk her away to his mouth-watering bakery and into his family. Bridget is smitten with her new life, but finds she is TERRIBLE at baking. As she tries to learn each recipe Mr. Vanderpuff shares, she ends up creating some very unique treats…treats that will come in handy for when she needs to save the day more than once. These middle grade novels are filled with mystery, mischief and melt-in-your-mouth delights. It’s the series I wish was written many years ago for my own childhood self, but my adult self was quite happy to read it to my inner child instead.

A really fun and enjoyable middle grade adventure/ mystery where Bridget gets adopted from an orphanage and goes to live at a bakers.
I loved Bridget as a character, she reminded me a bit of Anne of Green Gables, always happy and full of courage and crossed with Matila, getting one up on the horrid Miss Acrid the orphanage owner.
The love from her friend Tom and how Mr Vanderpuff treated her was wonderful and it just left me with the warm and fuzzies.
At one point I couldn't see how it was all going to come together, but I should have feared not, the author knew exactly what they were doing and everything was there for a reason.

Bridget woont met Tom in het Weeshuis voor Onaardse kinderen. Het wordt geleid door een vreselijke vrouw, mevrouw Zuurbier. Bridget is dapper, eigenwijs en ondeugend. Ze komt steeds in de problemen waardoor ze er niet bij is als de Gezinnen komen om kinderen te adopteren.
Tot, op een dag meneer Van der Puff naar het weeshuis komt en naar haar vraagt…..

Bridget ‘ontsnapt’ aan Zuurbier en gaat mee naar De bakkerij van meneer Van der Puff.

“Van der Puffs Brood & Banket was niet gewoon een bakkerij - het was een orkest van suikerzoete wonderlijkheden.”

Hij wil haar leren bakken, maar dat levert nogal wat problemen op. Bovendien mist ze Tom. Zou ze hem ooit terug zien? Zal meneer Van der Puff ooit Pascal weer zien. En zijn schilderij terugvinden?

“We maken van jou nog wel eens een bakker, Bridget Baxter. Nu je het verschil weet tussen een lepel en een ovenhandschoen, ben je niet meer te stoppen!”

De humor en de taalgrappen in dit boek, heerlijk! Ik heb het met zo veel plezier gelezen!
Echt een boek voor deze eigenwijze kinderboekenweek.

Bridget vanderpuff is a magical and adventurous book it’s about a girl called Bridget she is in a foster care the woman who runs the foster care is very dangerous and angry vicious. She locks her up in a trunk and through her into the water thank goodness she was OK then she gets adopted by Mr.Vanderpuff he’s a nice young man and is a baker he bakes magical desserts, he tries to learn her the recipes, but she fails every time one time the dessert even got stuck to the ceiling as I said, his desserts are magical, but not that magical for Bridget for the rest. I won’t tell you more about the book I recommend this book.

Bridget Baxter is an orphan housed in the Orphanage for Errant Childs. Think of Matilda's Miss Trunchbull and the interaction between Bridget and Miss Acrid (the ruler of the orphanage), and you can imagine the chaos that ensues! When a surprise visitor to the orphanage (Mr. Vanderpuff) wishes to adopt Bridget, she is overjoyed; however, Miss Acrid doesn't want to let go that easily to the control she imagines she possesses.

Themes include baking, friendship, and acceptance of ourselves, and things we can't control are found. My 9-year-old loved it and laughed throughout!

I wasn’t sure how this was going to go, but I honestly enjoyed it. A good mix of some mischief, life lessons and adventure. I loved the use of baking throughout the story. Looking forward to the second one.

The book is very cozy, Matilda-esque and Anne of Green Gables-esque and filled with baking! The heroine is brave and confident! And I enjoyed the book, just what I needed.
My only critique is that the pacing of the story was a little too quick - insta-lovey as the romance girlies would call it.

Ontzettend grappig boek. Deels in de auto als luisterboek geluisterd en deels zelf gelezen. Zo beeldend beschreven dat ik steeds zo voor me zag. Heel leuk!

In BRIDGET VANDERPUFF AND THE BAKED ESCAPE, after years of waiting for a family of her own, Bridget Baxter is the only child remaining in the Orphanage for Errant Childs. Just when she thinks she’s doomed to a miserable existence alone with Ms. Acrid, who runs the orphanage, Mr. Vanderpuff arrives to take her home with him to his bakery. Ms. Acrid sends him away, but Bridget employs her creative and cunning skills to elude Ms. Acrid and escape into Mr. Vanderpuff’s car. Once at home, he introduces Bridget to the delights of pastries and try as he might to teach her to bake, every recipe she attempts comes up a complete failure. These epic failures end up proving handy when the evil Ms. Acrid tries to get revenge on Bridget.

Bridget is a fun and feisty heroine with spunk and spirit. She embraces every challenge she faces and looks for ways to solve even the trickiest of situations. This story of finding a family mixed with mystery and adventure is a sweet one that readers will savor.

I read this aloud to my 11-year-old grandson, although he had already read it himself more than once. It's a quirky story about a talented nine-year-old orphan called Bridget who regularly comes up against the caricatured evil owner of the orphanage.

When Bridget is adopted by a local baker, she discovers that although she is an expert in many fields, she is a terrible baker. Her cakes and pastries are not just heavy or flat, they develop unexpected and dangerous features...

Not to be taken seriously; this is a fast-paced book with some humour, and adventures so unlikely that they are not as scary as they might seem. I enjoyed reading it aloud, and think it would make a good read for children of around 9-12 who like this kind of story. I doubt if I'll read it again, and have no interest in trying others in the series, but my grandson likes them all.

It's a bit rich slamming a book for sounding like something you've read before, when countless potential readers won't have read what you've read. But for my enjoyment's sake, this was too close to a mix of "Cosima Unfortunate…" and "Into Goblyn Wood" – reminding me far too much of the situations, characters and even events of a melange of both. And that's long before "Alice Eclair" and her cooking turns up to make a threesome. Plus, the "comedy" footnotes were really getting on my wick – that and the breathless dialogue suggested someone trying just that bit too hard. A reasonable entertainment for many, but not for me on this occasion.

This was an enjoyable read and young readers will appreciate it as well! Full of extremely quirky characters. Bridget Baxter is the main character, she is the last child at the orphanage and she is living a horrible life with Miss Acrid (it’s in the name really!) a ghastly women who really dislikes children. Luckily Bridget is adopted by the wonderful Mr Vanderpuff and he takes her to his bakery and tries to teach her to bake…
There is adventure, great friendships, orphanage matrons and baking!
Lovely read for Year 3 onwards.

Unfortunately I wasn't very keen on this, it was all a little too silly for me but I did like how Bridget was saved by Mr Vanderpuff and then saves him so some nice parallels and the importance of family. I think younger readers probably would enjoy the silliness however!

Labai smagi istorija, puikiai pritaikyta vaikams. Dukrai viskas patiko ir vaikų namų pavadinimas ir siaubūnė tų namų prižiūrėtoja Akrid, nuostabieji Bridžitos kepininiai ir... ypatingasis Bridžitos sijonas.
Skaitėsi labai greitai,sunkiausia būdavo sustoti, nes labai įdomu kaip viskas klostysis toliau.
