A couple of years ago, I was getting real down about the fact I hadn’t found my mate. I was doing all kinds of crazy stuff. Picking fights with other clans; arguing over territory. Then the fates spelled it out for I needed to leave my clan behind and build a luxurious forest retreat fit for a queen. Because my mate would’ve been deprived of a lot of things in life. So, I waited and waited, and here she is at The most perfect thing I’ve ever laid eyes on. Mine. My girl. The one whose name is written in the stars. Dumped in the wilderness and all alone—but ready to fight my beast for her dinner. Can’t wait to give her my mark. Can’t wait to show her I’m here for her, forever. But first, I’m gonna find out who did this to her, and make them wish they’d never been born.
This is a steamy insta-love romance, featuring an obsessed, possessive hero. If you like fated-mates romances, full of off-the-charts attraction, you'll love Scout and Orion's story. Secret billionaire, forced proximity in a luxurious forest retreat, majorly protective hero, found family feels and a sweet HEA!
USA Today bestselling author Ariana Hawkes writes spicy romantic stories with lovable characters, plenty of suspense, and a whole lot of laughs. She told her first story at the age of four, and has been writing ever since, for both work and pleasure. She lives in Massachusetts with her husband and two huskies.
Scout is raised as a doomsday prepper and declares a challenge after her father tried to sell her, ok great start but then turned into a cute story. Yes steamy, and overall cute. It could’ve been stretched though or gone down a deep path- but cute refresh!
Apparently there are a lot of people really into this kind of thing.
Where the perfect, extremely young and beautiful and did I mention young and also a virgin. Virtually hairless naturally, gorgeous, young, tight, virgin. Did we say young and virgin? That's very important so we say it a lot so you don't forget... Anyways where thos young virgin meets a random older man who is also a bear shifter apparently, and he has been waiting his life for her and is absolutely perfect in every way, and rich for *reasons,* and exists solely to give her everything she wants.
Like half the book is description of what is apparently her dream house he built for her in the middle of nowhere just so she'd run into him there. Fate told him all about her so he knew what he was doing I gues. I have to assume this is the author's dream house because it is wildly descriptive. Complete with a wardrobe in her size, and shoes in her size too. Louboutin, of course.
Well the young virgin isn't a dummy so she locks down the perfect man immediately. Virginity gone we no longer need to worry about the random, ugly and smelly shifters who have been stalking her smell this whole time apparently. It seems like no one knows about shifters but also no one keeps it a secret, either.
"You are NOTHING' like your parents." Is a thing he says to a girl he met the day before and who's parents he has never met.
Anyways she gets to see her parents again so that she can call a meeting and then tell the hardcore lifelong prepper cult members they need to live a little, and they all slow clap and happily give up their prepping ways.
I mean someone should have done that sooner if it was that easy!
Her dad had tried to sell her virginity to another prepper man who rejected her because he didn't want to get married (and she was dressed like a tomboy so how could he have known how hot she was under those clothes???) and then he left her in the woods on a "mission" assuming she'd die.
But he tells her he was hard on her because he knew she was the best prepper. She all is forgiven.
No forgiveness for the guy who rejected her though. I mean, dad tried to sell her but how DARE that man not want her!
Anyways ....
This is just not my cuppa. It's for those who want absolutely insane insta-love, virgin, perfect man and no conflict stories. Heavy on the virginity.
*Read for the Fang Alley prompt of Romanceopoly(a paranormal romance with fated mates).*
Having a heroine like Scout, who'd been denied so much due to her family's prepper lifestyle, was very interesting. She was strong, even going up against a bear(who was her fated mate Orion)in order to hunt a rabbit for dinner showed her dedication to survival. Orion was pretty adorable, building a whole house for Scout. These two were interesting characters in their own right, though I can't say I felt the love. I went with it because of the fated mates thing, but all I really saw was a whole bunch of love scenes without feeling the emotions the characters claimed they felt. I thought the ending before the epilogues was a little over the top in how her family all changed personality, too.
Scout lives in a bunker in the wilderness with her father, mother and two older brothers. They belong to a community known as The Emergency Preparedness Brotherhood and they are awaiting the Final Fiasco. The family moved to the wilderness eight years ago and Scout has been doing her part chopping wood catching food and washing clothes. When her father considered Scout to be of age at 21 he tried to marry to a son of another member. The boy rejected Scout. When Scout and her dad went home she told him she wanted to compete in the succession trial with her brothers. They are dropped off in the wilderness and are expected to find their way back. Scout has come prepared as much as she can. Scout takes off and she sees a rabbit so she pulls out her bow and arrow but then she sees a grizzly bear. Scout won’t give up on the rabbit because she is hungry so she shoots at the bear and when he roars she runs and trips and blacks out. Orion is a grizzly bear shifter. He built a nice house out in the wilderness to await his mate. Orion was directed by fate to build the house and his mother helped with some of the things inside. Orion can’t believe that his mate shot him with a bow and arrow. Orion carries Scout in to his house and when she awakens she isn’t really scared of the big mountain man. Orion dresses her wounds. Scout has always dreamed of being rescued by a big mountain man. Scout wants to take a shower, she then finds Orion in his salt water swimming pool in his basement. Scout is feeling weird things with Orion. Orion knows that Scout is his mate. Orion pleasures Scout the first day but doesn’t want to claim her then. The next day there is another grizzly bear shifter sniffing around for Scout. Orion tries to shoo him away but he wants the virgin girl. Orion hasn’t told Scout that he is a grizzly bear shifter but she finds out when his grizzly bear comes out to fight the other bear, which he ends up killing. Scout is shocked at first but she realizes that Orion and his bear will do anything to protect her. Orion claims Scout after the bear attack. Scout loves the house especially since she has been living in a bunker for eight years. There is something that Scout feels is left undone. She never finished her succession trial and she tells Orion that she needs to finish it. Orion agreed but he followed her all the way. Will Scout be the first one back? Will she be in charge of the community? Where have her brothers been and will they make it back. Will Scout reconcile with her family? Will her mother cheer her on? Will Orion get the pups he has been wanting with Scout? Will Orion and Scout find love and happiness as fated mates? I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book via Prolific Works.
A quick, fluffy-ish, insta-love, fated mates romance
This is a super quick romance that works well as a palate cleanser, or if you just want something fast to read.
Humans aren't aware of the shifter world, but despite this, Scout doesn't seem too concerned when the man who rescued her just a day or two prior turns into a bear to protect her against another shifter. She was sent on a challenge with her two brothers to see who could make it back to their home first after being dropped off in the wilderness. The winner would essentially be the new leader of their family. It's during this challenge that she meets her mate.
They're both super comfortable with each other from the start. She takes everything in easily. The ending was unexpected, in my opinion. I expected someone to come in and cause drama, but that didn't happen. The whole book is basically: she ends up in the woods, she meets her mate, they live happily ever after.
It's cute. I love Orion the best - he's an absolute sweetheart! Would I read more of these? Maybe if I need a break between series or something, but I'm not about to jump into the next one right away.
Scout and her family, parents and 2 brothers live in the forest, preparing for the "final fiasco" as her dad calls it. Scout and her brothers are set out on a mission to survive and return back to camp.
On her journey Scout finds a bear, attacks it, falls and passes out. Orion, the bear shifter her mate, takes her home to care for her, his bear is going crazy ready to claim her. Orion needs to tell her about his bear first things go a little crazy? Shockingly, another bear tries to claim her and Orion is forced to shift and protect her.
Scout accepts Orion and tells her story but needs to complete her mission set by her dad. Enjoyed the story, it all came together and there is a HEA.
Honestly this has some very disturbing themes centered around virginity, the FMC being young, nearly “hairless down there” 🤮. As well as making the FMC somehow knowledgeable about the world she has been secluded from since she was 11 BUT somewhat childish when thinking about sex.
I don’t know this all felt really yucky like I know she is supposed to be 21 but some of the things written feel wrong.
Idk how better to describe what I read but - 10/10 won’t read this again and cannot recommend. I’ve read 2 other book by this author but I in good conscience cannot read another one. If you want to age down your character in EVERY WAY but their actual numerical age, I’m out.
This was a fun and hot romance for Scout and her dirty talking bear shifter, Orion. These two were beyond ready to meet each other and their chemistry was off the charts hot, right from the get-go ;P Orion's mom had some insight with Fate and she sure helped him prepare properly for Scout's arrival. The author had fun with the symbolism of Orion preparing for his prepper mate. Lol! Of course, there is some danger and a ton of family drama, but everything is handled so well that it's just a blip on their mating. All great fun and I'm looking forward to what's next by this author :D
The series is a must read it has all the spice and all the shifting. It has feisty females and alpha males and all the spice you might need. This book however hit differently. I love that our MMC has a name from a constellation. I love that our feisty female main character stood up to his bear for her dinner it was priceless. And I definitely love the detail of this cabin and if it exists I want to visit.
Orion just knew the Fates had someone wonderful planned for him. From the moment he saw her, he knew she was his. After being dumped by her father in the woods for a survival "trial", Scout knew she could survive on her own. What she didn't count on was her perfect mountain man showing up, when she needed him the most. From his kind, calm demeanor to the house he built just for her, she sure was the lucky one. Kudos Ariana Hawke. You have another winner!
This is a 1 night read So it's a story that you can read and not be up late at night. The characters were good I really didn't like the father And it 1st not the brothers either but that changed later in the story. There were of few minor errors in editing That need to be retraced. The storyline was good I don't think I've ever read a book about preppers and in a shifter book especially.
I just love these characters! Orion is just the sweetest grizzly shifter to ever be willing to rip your limbs off for his mate 😉, and Scout is charming, strong, and self-willed. There's great heat between this pair; I'm so glad that fate (and his mother) got it right! The "prepper" background is new to me and added interest. Although I thoroughly enjoyed this story, I will admit that the complete reversal of nearly everyone at the end is a bit much; I still look forward to more in this series!
I loved how Orion found his mate Scout so unexpectedly. Orion had, with his mother's help, built this beautiful house with everything a woman, his mate, would want. They did a great job as Scout loved the house even before she found out about shifters and mates. Their romance was sweet and steamy. Also Scout proved to her prepper parents and brothers that she was strong like an Alpha. Great read and a happily ever after!
Life has always been hard for Scout as the daughter of a prepper. Her two brothers don't seem to be bothered, but she feels differently. The time for "The Test" has come and she insists that she be allowed to join with her brothers. Orion has been preparing for his mate for years. Guided by his mother and fate, he wants to have everything ready when he finally finds her. He just wasn't expecting to meet her when ANF how he did.
Up until the end, I just kept expecting her to wake up and say had this crazy dream I left this great life to go back To my family, and it was all, sunshine, unicorns, and rainbows, and the guy that laughed at me wanted me and my no backbone having mom told him to go away, and my mean chauvinistic brothers accepted her as the "Alpha" of their community. 😝 I get the the book is fantasy, but that ending went from fantastical to just plain goofy.
I really liked the premise of the story, but after 49%, I couldn't enjoy the book anymore bc the writing got so bad. If you took a shot every time it was mentioned that she was a virgin, your stomach would need to be pumped! Ugh And after 49%, it felt sooooo silly bc she, now the leader of the preppers, held a speech to the other hardcore preppers how they should just enjoy life and stuff and ofc every one applauded 💀

I think this is the best story in the series and the rest of the books have been great. Storm knows what she wants and does what she has to do to make it happen. I love how Orion trusted in fates and with a little help from his sweet mom built the perfect home for Storm. Great read, great characters!!!!!
Every book in the series has been great. And I think each one that comes out is better than the last. After reading Scout and Orion's story, it will be hard to wait for the next. Living your life, feeling alone and just waiting and waiting not sure for what or whom, then it all comes into sight in an instant. A great addition to the series. Enjoy
Taken from an almost normal life and thrust into the wilderness and home-schooling. Denied the basics of "normal."
Pitted against two selfish, overbearing older brothers to brave, and survive, the wilderness alone. By a father who barely tolerates her. First back becomes leader of the community.
A very entertaining book. I enjoyed the way they met and developed their relationship. The description of the house made my mouth water! And when she went back and convinced the "preppers" to enjoy life was enlightening. Again, another great " Obsessive Mountain Mates" book. I hope there will be more.
I loved her off beat home life. Having to live like that is pretty sad, especially when they get fanatical in their beliefs. Orion has a amazing family, and an awesome Mother. Following her advice, and his inner bear, he builds his future mates dream house. Finding her in the forest, was fates guiding hand. Scout was where she belonged.
This is the first book that I’ve read in this series, and I really, really liked it. The main characters, Orion and Scout, were great. It was a good story, and the backstory was enough to let you know what it happened without a lot of details. And that was okay. I highly recommend this book!
Wow. This is such a feel good story. I’m so glad I gave it a chance. It has it all. Love, mystery, commitment and sex, lots of sex. Orions love for Scout is so pure and his support for her and her needs is outstanding. If you believe in Fate, this is the story for you. Great job Ariana!
This is a decent enough read. Not really any depth to the story or the characters. A few parts could have been a bit more fleshed out, but if you are interested in a pretty insta-love story and not a lot of real storyline or depth, this is for you. I could see this as a palate cleanser story
I really enjoyed this book from this series. It was filled with family issues, loyalty from a destined mate, drama, a little action, romance💖 and love. What romance reader doesn't love💘 a HEA!
Arc review For a honest review in my own words.Scout's family are from the emergency preparedness brothershood cult and as past of the Ritual is to release them into the wild and she does great till she sees a grizzly this is awesome story I like how orian is so protective .
