When deadly fires re-ignite with no cause, arson investigator Bree Noble finds herself on the trail of a revenge-driven pyromaniac, racing to decode his cryptic methods before he strikes again…
EMPTY HOUSE (A Bree Noble Suspense Thriller—Book 2) is the second novel in a new series by mystery and suspense author Laura Rise. The series begins with EMPTY SOUL (Book 1).
An engrossing and intense crime thriller with an exceptionally clever yet emotionally scarred female protagonist at its heart, Bree Noble delivers a compelling series brimming with relentless excitement, unexpected plot twists, shocking discoveries, and a rapid tempo that ensures you'll be flipping pages well into the night. Fans of Rachel Caine, Teresa Driscoll, and Lisa Gardner are sure to fall in love.
This book has an interesting premise — the investigation of suspected arson fires — but unfortunately the characters are not fully fleshed out . We are told repeatedly about Bree’s traumatic story, how she lost her family to a fire from which only she escaped, and we are told how well she and her investigation partner, Mike, work together, but we don’t have any idea about them as people beyond their dedication to their work. Also, the author uses too many similes and metaphors. Some of them are quite apt and creative but, as with starlings or sumac plants, when there are so many of them, it’s difficult to appreciate the quality of an individual one. I could not get engaged in this book, therefore, developing no feelings for the characters and being tripped up by overly elaborate phraseology on every page.
This is another fast-paced, well-written thriller that will keep you flipping pages as fast as possible to find resolution. Prepare to go on an emotional roller-coaster ride!
Loved the strength and determination of the characters in this book. The plot was well structured. Some events I expected and forsaw, others were a complete surprise. I expect Bree and Mike will embark on a romantic journey in additional books. That remains to be seen. I will have to check it out.
Oh my goodness, this was a difficult read! Metaphor/simile/metaphor/simile/metaphor…it was endless!!!! And then Marcus Fuller became Brian and then Marcus again? If this had been edited I reckon it would have been about 10 pages long and my life would better. Good premise, very low on content but wow the writing is terrible.
This book was good, but not really good. It wasn't bad either if am honest. I just didn't enjoy it a whole lot. It just wasn't my kind of book really. That's not the authors fault. My personal preference 🤷♀️.
First responders were dying within the confines of the raging fires. Bree and Mike are on the trail of the arsonist responsible for the deaths, but they have no idea of his identity.
Read the first two books and doesn’t make me want to finish the series. Found mistakes in the writing several times throughout the book and just did not keep me interested
