The ambition of this book was to continue the research started in 'family and kinship in East London' (one of the historic sources in 'Me, Me, Me?: The Search for Community in Post-war England', which I really enjoyed - decent chance this was one of the other sources but the name didn't ring a bell)
I really enjoyed the chapters on slightly esoteric (?) features I recognise from the village I grew up in (bowling greens, brass bands, working men's clubs) without ever having understood. They feel slightly absurd but also present positive images of community
The other chapters didn't interest me quite so much, potentially because I knew more about the subjects going into it
