What do you get when you cross three of the Federation’s most celebrated sons with a misguided god? An alternate reality full of lessons that may be just what the doctor ordered. But with Jake Sisko’s enrollment in the Pennington School, Alexander Rozhenko’s prison sentence, and Nog’s first Starfleet posting all fast approaching, they’ll have to move fast to defeat the Breen once and for all if they’re to convince Q Jr. to return them to their home reality. The final chapter of SONS OF STAR TREK concludes here!
The finale had a lot of action, and it wrapped everything up about the way I expected it to. The conclusion felt a bit rushed, especially the Breen aspect, but at the same time it did feel earned.
There are some moments at the end where three of the sons meet their fathers again, which made Rom's absence from this series, save for a mention here and there, much more noticeable. I decided that Nog and Rom don't really have the kinds of issues that the other father son duos have, so there wouldn't be that same sense of conflict, so maybe that's why he was left out.
It was also neat to see Mariner in charge, though as a whole I'm not a huge fan of Lower Decks. It honestly just feels like filler until Picard or now Strange New Worlds came back.
Overall, this was a neat mini series that added some emotional aspects to the flagship Trek series and the Defiant spinoff. Definitely worth a read.
