Misfit girl by Roxann Hill and Paul Wagle, is a missing persons thriller, with some psycho hired killers , ruthless bankers, ww2 missing diamonds, girl with family issues and a grouchy detective all thrown in the mix.
The book starts with a shock factor which then moves on to the chapter 1 where our heroine is a half-heartedly working as an aide in a nursing home.
First the positives:
1. The translation from German to English is definitely seamless, i wouldn't have realized it if I didn't know!
2. This was a fun and fast read, I enjoyed moving from Munich, Hamburg, the Hallig and all over!
3. The author talks about The Hallig- North sea islands and Sea lavender with obvious love. I had no idea about this part of the world and it was very interesting to read about it.
4. There is definitely a thrill factor where you kinda know what has happened but you don't want to accept it.
The cons:
1. I unfortunately did not like any of the characters, I couldn't identify with any of them and how is it that there wasn't a single person in the book whom you call a good guy!
2. The hired killers were shown to be ruthless for no apparent reason.
3. The story had too much external factors and not enough for the main motive of the crime.
My biggest gripe was how can a guy who had recently undergone chemo and was in the nursing home be running around all over Germany, punching and killing people!! Folks who have undergone chemo can barely have the energy to walk; even months after the therapy they definitely don't have the energy to have physical altercations with 2 people and come out on top!
Overall it is definitely a fun and fast read, and I would read from the authors again.
