In a galaxy where the line between right and wrong blurs, one woman seeks justice.
Fiery and determined, Madison Justice navigates the depths of space, searching for her father and a place to call home.
Expelled from the Naval Academy for her unyielding sense of justice, she now forges her own path as a freelance mercenary.
But the void is vast and unforgiving. To find her father, the elusive captain of the Gypsy Rose, Madison must prove her mettle in a realm where morality is a luxury few can afford.
Harassed by rivals and entangled in the schemes of a ruthless commander, she fights to keep her conscience intact.
As mutiny brews and treachery lurks in every corner, Madison must summon all her strength and cunning to survive.
Will she reunite with her father and find the sense of purpose she craves? Or will the unforgiving universe consume her, body and soul?
Gritty and action-packed, A Silent Death is a tale of a daughter's unbreakable spirit in the face of adversity, set against the backdrop of a morally ambiguous future.
Madison justice has had a rough life and learned to fight for what she wants. A naval career is within her grasp until a test and a jealous, cheating rival ends her career chances, just because she defends herself and her teams and tells the truth.
Cast adrift, she finds a freelance ship and an unexpected temporary partner whom she helped out of a distressing situation. When the ships crew turn out to be a difficult job, Madison and Dag fight for the opportunity to free themselves and move to a better life.
Love Madison, Dagand the new mates they finds can’t wait for the next book. An exciting space opera novel filled with madness, mayhem, battles and galactic action, and a totally worthwhile read
Unfortunately, this was not very well written. The most glaring problem is that the author writes in the past passive tense: Everything is “would have” or “would be” or “have had”. It slows the story down immeasurably, which is a huge problem since there is very little plot. Most of the book is in the characters head, pulling you out of the action in order to explain her thoughts. There is so little action in the book that staying in her head becomes repetitive, dull, and actually disappointing. I wanted to DNF this book, but decided to push through. The story isn’t terrible, but it reads like an early draft instead of a finished product: overdeveloped in some areas and wildly underdeveloped in others.
Maddie is in training for the Navy when her ideal for right and wrong get her kicked out. She ends up back on the streets that she grew up on, and decides to search for her father. Along the way she meets some enemies and makes some friends. Great start to a new series, I love the steam punk in space vibe, and the characters and storyline kept my interest to the end. I am looking forward to more books in the series to see how things go for Maddie and her friends.
This was a really good introduction book for a new series. The main characters got into all sorts of action and adventure. The method of space travel was interesting and different. Not quite a steampunk environment, but not the normal high tech mess people in space usually have to deal with. I enjoyed this book and am glad it will be a series. I recommend this book and look forward to future books following these characters and set in this universe.
Well, eventually! Rather a lot of lead in on this one...although still the typical MA action and attitude. Recon you will get about a quarter thru at which point things kick off! I've got into the habit of getting the box sets...and as an opener this one promises the usual kick butt sass and action with an amazing FMC and aching of her posse..... Oh yeah definitely a series want more of!! Oh BTW for this as a free read...but guarantee will be getting more!!!!!!
Madison reminds me of Kris Longknife. A deep sense of right and wrong, superior intellect, and a great grasp of tactics. I can tell Madison is going places, and I want to be along for the ride. Also, I want to know Dag's back story. Great news, book two is already out. I know what my plans are for tomorrow.
This was a bit of a mixed bag. It started with a somewhat standard, group up poor, excell at the academy, taken down by rich asshole type of story but some of Madison's back story and where she ultimately ended up saved it somewhat. There was one slightly hand wavy part when she finds her dad but mostly it was believable and fun to read. 3 1/2 rounded down. Thank you to LibroFM for the ALC.
I loved the Kutherian Gambit series, though I have tried a few other series Michael Anderle has worked with other authors on, Black Pearl Freelancers is so far the only one I'll be reading more than one book of. I enjoyed A Silent Death.
Madison is introduced in a scenario where her outrage at the results of the actions of an entitled fellow cadet, endangers the rest of the cadets. Her subsequent reaction has far reaching consequences
I love how Michael writes different genres. Although I enjoy magic and fantasy, these occasional non magical books are a nice change.. Good characters and a fast paced storyline. A great read. Had to read it in one day.
Main character was not likeable. Talked a lot and said nothing. She meets a 1 armed drunk that decides to ship out with her because. This was a fail and I've, literally, read 100s of your books..
