Lillian is a dedicated lady’s maid and is quite content in her position, but when the family she works for sets sail across the sea and the ship they are on sinks, she is suddenly thrown into an adventure worthy of one of her novels. Found unconscious and drifting alone, Lillian is mistaken as a noblewoman and kidnapped by a misfit band of pirates where she must keep up the ruse to ensure her safety.
Kale is the captain of the pirate ship Stardust, and desperately needs a noblewoman to go after the largest treasure he and his crew have ever attempted. But Lillian isn’t anything like what he expected of a noble, and he struggles with the need for a noblewoman and his growing attraction for her. As the blood moon approaches, Kale and the crew scramble to gather everything needed to access the legendary treasure.
With the clock ticking on their adventure Lillian and Kale must work together as they battle rival pirates, the navy, and a 300-year-old curse. Kale must decide the best path to take for the crew and everyone who depends on him, while Lillian must find a strength within herself she never thought possible.
A stunning pirate romantasy adventure, that easily swept me into this captivating fantasy world. Lillian is feisty, brave, bold and resilient. She is thrust into the unknown, captured by pirates, forced to adapt, and must use her wits to survive. Her fantasy novels describe pirates as ruthless villains and scoundrels, but the crew before her surprise her in unexpected ways, especially the handsome, confusing and infuriating Captain Kale. As the Pirate crew embark on a secret mission, they are all plunged into danger, chaos, chases, and confronting rivals. Tough choices lie ahead as they must decide which path to take, and what they are willing to sacrifice. This story is filled with action, adventure, drama, slow burn romance, found family, sassy banter, and I loved every second. The ending!?! I can't even go there... all I know is I need the next book asap! This is definitely one you need to read!
😉 Chapter 35 ❗Contains violence, death, trauma
🏴☠️"She was the heroine of her own story and she would not wither beneath a scoundrel of a pirate"
🏴☠️"Well, villains have stories too. They have families and motivations, same as you girl. The only difference is the villain is willing to risk everything to get what they need. Even themselves"
⚓ Enemy to Lover 🏴☠️ Forced Proximity ⚓ Kidnapping 🏴☠️ Slow Burn Romance ⚓ Hidden Identity 🏴☠️ Treasure Hunt ⚓ Found Family
“Villains have stories too. They have families and friends and motivations, same as you girl. The only difference is the villain is willing to risk everything to get what they need. Even themselves.” “From stardust we came, to stardust we remain.”
Pirate romantasy book filled with action and adventure.
I enjoyed the world-building and character introductions. Lillian seemed like an interesting FMC, she was resilient and feisty with a compelling backstory. I would have loved to learn more about her past.
I liked the found family aspect, the banter between the characters, and the dynamics & friendships among the crew members.
I felt that some elements could have been explained a bit more. For example, I would have preferred to learn more about the crew’s mission and what motivated them.
Additionally, I would have liked the pacing to be more consistent throughout the book. Some parts in the middle felt slower, while others, especially towards the end, seemed a bit rushed.
Overall an interesting and easy-to-read story with action, adventure, and pirates.
I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review. Receiving ARC didn’t affect my opinion of the book.
I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about this at first bc I'm not a huge fan of third person writing but I ended up moving the book! The ending hurt mah heart 😭
Read it if you like: ✔️ Pirates ✔️ Enemies to Lovers ✔️ Touch her you 💀 MMC ✔️ Magical creatures & curses ✔️ Fierce FMC ✔️ Slow burn
Blurb: ''Lillian is a maid and when the family she works for sets sail across the sea the ship they are on sinks, she's found unconscious and drifting alone and is mistaken as a noblewoman and kidnapped by pirates where she must keep up the ruse to ensure her safety. ✨ My thoughts: This is such a ME book since I'm half pirate self declared haha This book was beautiful! The world building is so easy to understand, it has such a good amount of drama, pain, lost but also of love, adventure and action. It made me feel so good to see the FMC grow and finding herself, live her best pirate self and fall in love *AMAZING* the MMC it's also a cinnamon roll but fierce and will do whatever he needs to protect his crew and gives our FMC the CHOICE to stay with him or not. The action scenes are amazing and the spice its ON POINT. I loved every minute embarking in this wild adventure and would sail anytime in the Stardust with these mattes, savvy?
Listen. If you ever wanted a maid-to-menace glow-up on the high seas… From Stardust understood the assignment.
Lillian starts off scrubbing floors and ends up navigating piracy, power, and her own identity like an absolute queen in the making. And the transformation? Chef’s kiss. We love a woman who stops surviving and starts commanding.
Lillian’s evolution feels earned. She doesn’t just wake up fierce she becomes fierce. Watching her wrestle with her past while carving out her own destiny? Empowering and emotional.
The harbor feels alive. The sea feels wild. The ship creaks, the salt air stings, and the danger hums just beneath the surface. It’s immersive without drowning you in detail.
The tension with Kale? Yes please. The emotional beats between Lillian and the crew add warmth to all the swashbuckling chaos. It’s action balanced with heart and that combo works.
I actually would give this book 3,5/5 ⭐️ The storybuilding and the characters were a little flat. There was nothing much that distinguished especially the Crew members and also the main characters felt flat/empty. But I really enjoyed the pirate theme. And something still got me hooked. I am kinda looking forward to the second part.
This book was so incredibly enjoyable from start to finish! If you like pirates, treasure, shipwrecks, sword fights and a touch of magic then you will love this captivating adventure! All the details were woven so beautifully you could see them as if you were in the characters shoes. I absolutely loved our beautiful Lillian and her character development was amazing. She was so relatable and her journey of self discovery was beautiful to see. Honestly, all the characters just found their way into my heart. I couldn’t put this down it was so good! It had so many twists and turns, a hit of spice, found family, and the ending just broke my heart and has me dying for the next book!
From Stardust (Aarilyan Seas #1) Rating: ★★☆☆☆ (2 stars)
The Good Concept & Setting: The premise is fantastic — pirates, found family elements, and a touch of magic are right up my alley. With more detail, the world could have been rich and immersive.
Character Potential: Lillian, the main character, is spunky and book-smart, and the crew (especially Johnny and Kidd) bring humor and heart. Johnny, in particular, shines with the kind of energy and banter you’d expect from a lead.
Improvement Mid-Book: Once Lillian boards Kale’s ship, the writing noticeably improves — POV shifts are smoother, descriptions gain weight, and dialogue flows better. The second half feels more confident than the vague, rushed opening chapters.
Where It Struggles Pacing & Action: Major events — storms, mutinies, battles, even deaths — happen in a blink, leaving no time to build tension or process what’s happening. Scenes that should carry emotional weight barely register before the plot barrels on, robbing the story of depth and making the world feel thin rather than immersive.
Continuity Issues: Important reveals are sometimes acknowledged in one scene, then forgotten or contradicted later.
Characters & Tropes: The crew feels oddly docile and sanitized — more “misfits” than true pirates — lacking the grit or bawdiness you’d expect aboard a pirate ship. Kale, the supposed love interest, reads flatter than Johnny, who actually has far more chemistry with Lillian. The marketed “enemies-to-lovers” trope never fully lands; Lillian’s hostility toward Kale feels surface-level, and her softening toward him happens too quickly to feel earned. Ironically, Johnny and Lillian embody that trope far better than the intended pairing.
Prose & Editing: The opening is vague and clunky, with unfinished or awkward sentences. Action and transitions are abrupt — “a breath of a sentence and done” — rather than lingering where it counts. Later chapters do improve, but the book still feels uneven, almost like the ending was written first and the beginning patched in later.
Final Thoughts This debut has good bones — a fun premise, some lovable side characters, and flashes of magic that could shine with stronger worldbuilding. But uneven pacing, continuity slips, and an unearned central romance left me more frustrated than fulfilled.
I’m glad others have enjoyed it, and I truly hope the author continues honing her craft — there’s clear potential here, and I’d love to see them find their stride in future works.
Today's review is a YA Romantasy From Stardust Book One! This is going to be a great series!
QOTD: Do you like reading stories about Pirates?
I was thrilled to get a copy of From Stardust from the author. Romantasies have quickly become one of my favorite genres, especially when they include pirates! Lillian is a lady's maid and doesn't realize her true status is that of a lady from a noble house. Kale is the handsome pirate captain searching for treasure.
This book is an easy read and full of fun and unique characters. The crew of the pirate ship quickly became my favorite characters in the book. They were kind and supportive of Lillian just as a family, a feeling she'd never experienced before, except when she was a little girl before her parents were lost at sea. Lillian's amazing journey from girl to woman is beautifully told. The interactions between Kale and Lillian are filled with tension as they try to avoid falling for each other. Even though their romance unfolded slowly, I enjoyed every moment they spent together and their clever conversations.
There are plenty of adventures, sword fights, moonlit dances, and a treasure map that could change everything for them. Who will uncover the treasure first and break the 300-year-old curse? This exciting journey awaits you in From Stardust.
From Stardust by Meagan Kaye is a thrilling romantasy with pirates, adventure, a curse, and magic. The characters in this novel really made the story for me. Kaye wrote deep complex characters who grab your heart. I was anxious the entire time that something would happen to my favorites. After all adventures and pirates come with their share of dangers and mishaps. The FMC, Lillian is one of the best parts of the novel. Despite suffering an unimaginable tragedy Lillian is quick witted, brave, and strong. The attention to detail, especially when it comes to sailing, the pirates, their lives, and traditions is as incredible as it is captivating. Kaye’s imagining of pirates and pirate life is so vivid it’s as if she has experienced it firsthand. My favorite element of the novel has to be the curse.. is it really.. how will they break it.. can they break it. It built up the suspense and kept me on the edge of my seat. There are so many twists and turns throughout the novel leading to events I couldn’t see coming.. triumphs and tragedies. The ending is astonishing. I was left absolutely heartbroken.. mostly because the story ended and the next novel has not released. I cannot recommend From Stardust enough and I await the sequel’s release excitedly and impatiently.
I don't read pirate adventures often, but lately the ones I picked up have been amazingly woven stories, this one included.
From Stardust is a debut novel by Meagan Kaye. Despite being new Kaye shows awesome worldbuilding and character arcs. The action and fast paced writing were so well put together.
I really fell in love with all the ship crew, especially Kale. Lillian's character development is so relatable. From serving a noble house to floating on the sea can be a dramatic change for anyone. Kaye really portrayed Lillian's personality so well as she had to learn to survive on the ocean.
The slow burn romance was done perfectly as well.
And can I say, "What the heck Johnny?" I wasn't expecting that twist.
With a touch of mystery and magic this is a super fun read that I highly recommend.
Bingeable Pirate Romantasy that was packed with adventure, witty banter and forced proximity tension!
I really enjoyed the author's writing style, the world building was immersive and the characters were memorable. I love a found family trope and this crew of Pirates really delivered on that.
Lillian the FMC really stands out in this story, she is determined, brave , adventurous and had some really intriguing information revealed in the second half of this book. I'm looking forward to hopefully learning more about her backstory in book two.
The last bit of this book is packed with plenty of action and an ending I didn't see coming! Overall a good read and I'll be grabbing a copy of Stardust and the Kingsword when it's releases next month!
I loved this pirate adventure! A lady's maid kidnapped by pirates because they think she is noble by blood and she must keep up the ruse so they don't dispose of her. Noble pirates, not in blood but in actions, on a treasure hunt of a lifetime. I loved the interactions between Lillian and the pirates and how she slowly started to become one of them and they accepted her right away. Although the story takes place mostly on the ship, there were so many descriptions of the different places they visited and things Lillian experiences on board the Stardust and lots of action that it always left me interested and wanting more. The romance was a little slow but well done and I loved Kale. The ending made me cry out in distress but I am keeping up hope and awaiting the second book.
Just finished this lovely book, perfect for people who:
- Live for found family - Have adored all pirates since they first met Jack Sparrow - Like a good treasure hunt
Lillian was such a likable character and the crew of the Stardust will quickly have you adoring them, too.
This book does end on a cliffhanger, but luckily book two, Stardust and the Kingsword, is available now! I’m excited to see what happens on the next leg of Lillian’s journey.
There’s very little explicit language and one open door scene in this book.
This was such a great book! Filled with action, adventure, pirates and a little romance! Lillian is such a determined headstrong female character that I absolutely love and Kale is dark and broody. They keep secrets throughout the book but still slowly are drawn to each other as they bicker and continue the adventure. I absolutely enjoyed this book but our man Kale better redeem himself in the next one book!
This is a pirate romantasy...need I say more? Plus, it's a whole plethora of amazing tropes that come together to create sun a fun adventure read. There's enemies to lovers, secret identity, slow burn romance, forced proximity - all the things that make you want to keep turning the page. And in general, this was a fantastic read and that cliff hanger will have you screaming in frustration because it means we have to wait for book 2.
I’m so glad that I finally got around to reading this!! I love all the characters~ (except all the Noble people and the Desansol’s). Lillian is such a strong character, stronger than she knows, and finally gets an adventure of her own when she gets rescued by some pirates after the ship she was on got torn up by a storm. If you love pirates and fantasy (with a hint of magic), then this book is for you! I can wait to read the next one ^^
- enemies to lovers - forced proximity - slow burn - found family - treasure hunt - PIRATES
If you are a fan of pirates (think Pirates of Caribbean) then this is the book for you. This is a fast-paced, action packed romantasy.
Lillian is kidnapped by Kale, the pirate captain. The pirates surprise her and she ends up feeling more at home with them than she ever did where she came from.
This book is a great read, slow burn in the beginning but you can’t put it down. Lillian and Kale are definitely my two favorite characters. You grow to love the crew and they feel like family! If you are looking for an adventurous read and something new like pirates, this definitely needs to be added to your TBR List!!! Now I have to read book #2 Stardust and the Kingsword, because this cliffhanger needs to be answered!!!!!
Oh my god! I fell in love with this book from page one! The characters, the story, the adventure! It felt like I was a member of the crew aboard The Stardust. The slow burn, enemies to lovers, found family..... It was all absolutely magical. That ending, though?? I definitely shed a tear or two!
I really loved this pirate romantasy book. It has a feisty heroine. It did take me a little bit to like the MMC but he did eventually grow on my. However, I never ended up liking Johnny, so his storyline didn't feel as impactful as it would have been if I actually liked him.
I loved the worldbuilding and magic. It was easy to understand but left enough for the imagination that it can be expanded on in later books. I am however, mad at the ending. I can't wait to read book 2.
If you love adventure, romance, and the pirate life (think Will Turner meets Hook from OUAT) then this is the book for you!!
Meagan does not shy away from the adventure and right away you feel connected to Lillian. You are excited to go on this journey with her because you as the reader know something she has yet to find out, and when she does....oh my lord, is it exciting!
This was a fun and sweet read. The main character had believable character growth and her love interest was also well rounded. The only jarring moment was the introduction of magic in an otherwise non magical read. It was sudden and without explanation. Over all really cute story.
More like 3.5 stars. A few missing words or misused words but not enough to detract from the story. Characters read a bit younger than stated, but overall, a good story. Will pick up book two.
I give this book 4 1/2 ⭐️ I really enjoyed this book. I like the adventure, the Slow Burn romance the force proximity the story if you like Pirates of the Caribbean, you’ll love this book. it was Arrring good 😂
Get ready for a swashbuckling adventure with this debut novel. Pirates Found family Romantasy What's not to love... the cliffhanger ending that's what... it made me so cross 🤬 (in a good way)
