About the author

The Belgian author Morris (full name Maurice de Bevere) is best known for his humorous cowboy character, Lucky Luke. Morris started his career in 1945 in Le Moustique, creating various covers and illustrations. By the end of the 1940s, Morris met his colleagues Jijé, Franquin and Will. These four artists would be called "The Gang of 4", because they all worked in Jijé's studio at that time. The first episode of Lucky Luke, 'Arizona 1880', was published in L'Almanach Spirou 1947, and was later continued in Spirou. In his early 'Lucky Luke' comics, Morris was greatly inspired by animated cartoons à la Disney.
In 1949, Jijé took Morris and Franquin to the US, where Morris met Jack Davis and Harvey Kurtzman, whom he helped with their plans for Mad Magazine. He also met René Goscinny in the US. In 1955, Morris returned to Europe and collaborated with René Goscinny on 'Lucky Luke'. Goscinny wrote the scenarios of over 35 stories, which led to the great success of the series.

Щурите приключения на Лъки Люк продължават и във втория том: екшънът е на високи обороти, а смехът буквално струи от всяка страница. Стилът на рисунките е впечатляващ – малките панели радват окото с жизнерадостни цветове, уникален композиционен усет и прецизност до най-дребния детайл. Подходящо четиво както за невръстни хлапета, така и за дърти пергиши, съхранили детското у себе си… тука визирам своята скромна особа 🤪

Woohoo, Braca Dalton su tu :) Mada dobijamo zatvorenui pricu sa njima pa kako ce se kasnije pojaviti? Al nema veze kvalitet prica je postao bolji i samim tim daleko zabavnije za citanje.

This is a composite review for Lucky Luke: The Complete Collection, Vols.1-5.

I have long heard that the French have a real love for Westerns, but you really see it here in these extremely well put-together compilations of Lucky Luke, a seminal Western cartoon by the French cartoonist Morris. Volumes 1-3 contain an awful lot of biography on the cartoonist, which I'm not sure we really need. And, throughout, be prepared for some racist depictions of Native Americans, Chinese, and Black characters. These stories were published in the 1940s and 1950s, and what we see here is nowhere as bad as some of the stuff we see in, say, Tintin. But still, it's no excuse.

For the most part, these stories are droll little adventures where the stalwart cowboy Lucky Luck and his trusty steed Jolly Jumper wander the U.S. Wild West encountering various rascals and villains. Through a mix of strength, marksmanship and cunning, Lucky Luke manages to get one over on the bad guys in an episodic, "all's well that end's well" narrative with no real stakes or progression to it. That's the point, though; the point of Lucky Luke is to dwell in its world and enjoy the fairly bloodless dramas unfold. We know it's fairly one-dimensional going in, but that's alright. For what it is, Lucky Luke is quite a lot of fun, despite its warts.

Second collection book in the Lucky Luke series. This is the first time we encounter the real Daltons. I did not know that there were the first original Daltons before our legendary Joe, Avarel and co. Very much enjoyed all the stories. Better than the first one for sure! Cannot wait to read how Joe and his brothers will appear as the new Daltons in the upcoming books.
