This seems like an inspiring read for a young person puzzling out what to do with her life before, during, or after high school. It was interesting to read in the first person what it took for a young man growing up in an impoverished community with few financial resources to not just attend college, but to graduate with honors and move on to medical school and beyond. I was also fascinated by Dr.Hill’s accounts of his two deployments to Iraq as part of the Army Reserves.
The reason for only giving this book three stars is the not so great editing which often left me confused, rereading sections for understanding, or wanting to add corrections myself. I also think this could have been organized a little better and included a bit more descriptive language. It was just a tad too cut and dried, and slightly repetitive for me.
Nevertheless, I would still recommend this book to young people as a good resource for decision-making and motivation. Thank you, Dr. Hill, for writing this.
