A solid, but unspectacular resource for studying Daniel.
The book of Daniel is such a vivid and visceral piece of literature. Unfortunately, this book provides a rather staid and straightforward exposition. There is certainly a lot of good and helpful information, but it is presented in such a mechanical fashion that it makes the excitement of the biblical book actually seem rather dull!
Perhaps my favorite resource as I studied and preached through the book of Daniel. Loved the format of the book, its treatment of literary and plot structure, its discussion of how to responsibly get to Christ from each passage, and its emphasis on identifying every passage's main idea. A wonderful resource for those teaching and preaching on Daniel—highly recommended.
It won’t answer every question but an incredibly helpful resource for those preaching and teaching Daniel. His careful treatment of literary features and thorough exploration of connections to Christ are quite useful.
Fantastic exposition of the book of Daniel honoring both the author's intent and the fulfillment of the text in the redemptive work of Christ. A "must have" for any preacher working through Daniel.
I used this book to help me in preaching a series on Daniel. I found it an excellent tool for helping me to whittle down, from the vast amount of material available, what I needed to focus on in preaching the text. It also reassured me that my own exegetical work was on-track, and gave me a great deal more confidence in expounding this, the trickiest of books for the preacher.
Excellent guidance for preachers beginning with exegesis and structure work helping us determine the emphasis, through to how to bridge the gap to Christ and then to us.
A must if you are thinking about doing a sermon series from the book of Daniel. Greidanus provides a conservative, sensible treatment of the text from the amillennialism position.
