Humanity on the march. The battle lines are drawn. Time to dragon up.
Carl and his monstrous allies find themselves pressed against the wall — facing certain death if they defend the Scoured Mountain fortress. The human Empire, with its endless ranks and relentless pursuit, is closing in. It's not just a battle; it's survival, and the only option is to make a break for it.
But Carl isn’t worried about he’s already plotting out his counterattack. The key is finding a way to earn a new Blessing, a power-up which could tilt the scales back in their favor and grant them a fighting chance to push humanity back. The local humans know the monsters are growing fast, and are doubling down to rid the world of the monster infestation before it’s too late.
As the humans throw everything they have against Carl’s forces, the dragon himself has simple and straightforward priorities. Forget about fate, the end of the world, and overtime regulations…
All that matters is his people being the ones still standing when the smoke clears.
The series ends with the main character winning, of course. But winning his way and with some of his trademark unusual ways of working. The story continues the high tension almost to the last page. I’m a little curious what happens after, but leaving it open to the imagination is a good approach too.
Wow! I loved this book! And Lars Machműller pulled all the stops when he wrote this grand fanale. This series is perfection in it's finest! I wonder where Lars Machműller finds all the quotes that begins every chapter, because they're always the perfect header. And wow, the myriad of pop-cultural references splatter-shot thoughout the pages are just great fun! Onyx the Shadow Dragon may have temporarily given up his domain, and city of Fire Peak, but he's brought the citizens with him. Not just so they could get stronger but to make the final push and take back what's rightfully his, his minions, and his allies. The secret to strength is knowledge! So yeah grab this action-driven litRPG book, heck grab the series 'cause you don't wanna be left out!
Here's some quotes for y'all:
"I knew the Corren were bound to be ugly critters. Still, this dude looks like he went and got into a complicated relationship with the ugly stick."
"Granting somebody the keys to the universe then telling them they need to do the dishes is a really, really mean thing to do."
"Then, when he's looking at your left hand, trying to see where you pulled that dove from? Wham! That's when you hit 'im with a shovel."
Can't believe we finally have an ending, and although this wasn't what I expected, it does seem fitting. The relationships that came about and the action in this series made this a great read. One of Lars best works yet and who wouldn't want to be a dragon.
