I am reading one medication each day for Lent. These excerpts from Newman sermons hit home for me. Are excellent reflections for Lent.

St. John Henry Newman’s meditations and sermons on lent have been a very fruitful read for this season. I wish I could have listened to one of his homilies in person! His words are so convicting, and truly force one to examen their conscience and “repent and believe in the Gospel.” He is also an ardent advocate for reverence, and the construction of his words are a beautiful example of how to speak of our Lord in a holy way.

St. JHN provides profound reflections on various topics such as suffering, fasting, the Trinity, the incarnation, penance, prayer, and more. He does an excellent job illustrating how Jesus’s incarnation is a means by which our works and efforts are sanctified. “He has blessed fasting as a means of grace, in that He has fasted; and fasting is only acceptable when it is done for His sake.”

I highly recommend reading any of St. JHN’s sermons if you are looking for resources for discursive meditation! I use this website to obtain copies of his work: https://www.newmanreader.org/guides/s...
