Rescuing others has come down to me, the shy, quiet girl, and to do it, I have to give sexy Eoin a second chance.

Tori

Stolen from Earth, my world is turned upside down when I have my unexpected, alien baby. Desperately shy, without to protection of my brothers, I struggled to find my place in this new world, and then he showed up.

I thought he understood me, but he’s overbearing, overprotective, and after one night of passion? Downright impossible. I need to stand up for myself, so when we need to rescue two more humans, I leap at the chance to prove myself.

Even if it puts me in danger. Even if it means giving Eoin a second chance.

Eoin

After I’ve lost everyone I care about more than once in my life. Letting go is the last thing I’m good at, but it’s what my mate wants.

The need to keep her, and her baby, safe is overpowering. Especially when we’re separated from our friends and tumbling from one danger into the next.

To win my mate forever, I will do anything, even if the enemy I have to fight is me.

Steel Reforged is a full-length standalone sci-fi romance featuring hot alien gladiators, a heroine who’s slowly gaining her confidence, and an overprotective hero fighting for his second chance. This book has a guaranteed happily ever after.

Note: each book in the series can be read as a standalone, but for maximum enjoyment, it’s recommended that the series be read in order.

Tori (h), a shy and quiet girl who was stolen from Earth and gave birth to an unexpected alien baby, Novalee, serves as the chef aboard the Vagabond. She struggles to find her place in this new world, but then she meets Eoin (H), a Terafin who was freed from his life of fighting, carries his protective instincts with him even as he serves as part of the Vagabond crew. Together, they embark on a dangerous mission to rescue two more humans, but their own relationship is put to the test as they navigate their complicated feelings for each other. Eoin is protective and caring, but also struggling to let go and give Tori the freedom she needs as she becomes more confident and assertive of her independence. The romance between Tori and Eoin was hot and steamy and full of tension, even as they were faced with lots of action and adventure. It was great to see the previous characters from the series make appearances and the introduction of new ones. The book can be read as a standalone, but reading the previous books in the Gladiators of the Vagabond series will enhance your enjoyment of the story.

Well, I hate Tori. I didn’t like her to begin with, she wasn’t a very interesting character in the other books of the series. Sometimes I actually forgot she existed.
Both Tori and Eoin felt very immature, which wasn’t surprising since they are the youngest members of the Vagabond, but on the other hand, she has a freaking kid, I would have expected her to be more level-headed for the sake of her baby. Instead, she was impulsive, selfish, and overall TSTL. She constantly objectified Eoin, used him, and then got angry at him for trying to protect her from things she didn’t even acknowledge as threats, and not because she was so fierce, but because she was that stupid. She expected him to trust her to handle a bunch of dangerous men when she can’t even stand up for herself with her friends. By her own admission, she basically lets people walk all over her, yet she expects Eoin to let her handle not only the unsavory thugs from a space station notorious for its crime, but the dangerous mercenaries from a ship that has been chasing them for the best part of a year, AND whatever crew the crimelord they rescue the humans from has because she absolutely “has” to go (she was proven her presence wasn’t necessary when the other alien males from the Vagabond rescued fourteen humans without her, but she’s that self-centered). She would put them (her child included) in danger because of some stupid impulsive decision she made to prove how independent she was, he got hurt trying to get them out of the mess, and then she would think “See, he needs me, I need to nurse him back to health”. Bitch! He wouldn't have gotten hurt if you hadn’t been there in the first place!
Poor Eoin was just trying to understand this mercurial woman, who one minute would be all over him only to yell at him the next for some perceived slight he had no idea of. She doesn’t communicate, yet she expects him to understand her every mood swing. She was really annoying. She demands he trust her when she hasn’t demonstrated any competence whatsoever (she may be a decent shot, but that’s all), and she doesn’t trust him in return.
He wasn’t much better, though he at least was fighting his instincts to protect her because she didn’t want him to. To me, it seemed that he was the one making all the concessions in the relationship, bending over backward to please her. They don’t communicate, only have sex here and there instead of talking, and if it wasn't for the fact that they get Mitnick’s mate in this book I would have DNF. I like the crew in the Varakartoom, and I like the gladiators and their mates, it’s just Tori I can’t stand. Hopefully, she melts back into the background in the last two books in this series.

Tori and Eoin's Story . . .

This is Tori and Eoin’s story, where both of them have to readjust their attitudes and become someone the other can love and trust. Tori is basically shy and quiet. But having been through so much as a captive, she has a strong desire to prove herself to be a capable woman who can protect her child and others who come into her life. Eoin is a protector who also tries to control things too much. He has faced great loss in his life. So where Tori needs a bit of freedom, he holds her too hard to keep her safe. When she wants to rescue two other humans who need help, Eoin has to learn to let go and allow her to be strong and capable. When he lets her be the woman she is trying to become, that’s when she will have trust in him, knowing that he sees her capabilities and accepts her for who she is. Will they be able to change? Or will it be too difficult to let go and risk everything?

This is the first novel by this author (as well as first in this series) that I have read. I appreciated the appendix at the beginning of the novel to give me some context to some of the characters, connections as well as unique abilities for some of the different alien races. At first it felt like I was dropped into the story, just trying to figure out what direction the plot was going to go. Reading on, more of the backstory and direction of the plot made sense. As a fan of sci-fi, I really appreciated the detailed descriptions and the unique abilities of so many of the characters! The suspense of a search and rescue blended with a touch of romance just pulled me further into the story. I’m looking forward to the next novel and series based on how this one ended.

Eoin, the male alien lead, and Tori, the female human lead, share a mutual attraction and had one night hook up a little bit ago. But Eoin is smotheringly protective and Tori is unwilling to be put on a shelf. When Eoin goes to rescue humans, Tori is determined to offer support. And when things go wrong, maybe they’ll grow together…

This story is dual POV, well written, and a fast-paced, erotic sci fi romance. I enjoyed Tori’s personal development and her growing willingness to advocate for herself. I enjoyed Elon’s dawning awareness that she didn’t need to be constantly protected. I enjoyed their relationship development and the banter between all characters. I appreciated the secondary characters, most of whom have not been meaningfully engaged through the rest of the series, and I’m very interested in the cook on the assisting ship. I enjoyed the erotic intimate scenes. I enjoyed Novalee, Tori’s baby daughter, and the meaningful contribution she made to the story, not just a doll. The lead in for the next story left me waiting eagerly for it.

I received a complimentary copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I love this series, and Robin O'Connor did not disappoint with this one. A second chance love story of sorts finds both the female and male main characters developing and growing as they find their way towards eachother while working out the terms of their relationship together. The book is written from a first person point of view of both the female and male characters for which there's a happy ending. We're also introduced to the next book's characters through a cliffhanger style epilogue (don't read the epilogue if you don't want to end with the cliffhanger and questions about the next book), as well as new mercenary characters from another ship, the Varakartoom. I really wanted to continue hating these mercenaries and seeing them as the bad guys, but after being introduced to them, I'm definitely warming up to them. Except their captain. *Full body shivers*. If you're a fan of sci-fi alien romance, I highly recommend this entire series.

From "Only Protect" to "Love & Respect"

Gleeful Goblin Review: Something that I love about this series especially if the expansive world and species building that takes place and that we explore more in every book. The descriptions are always interesting and detailed in ways that make the aliens more "real" in a way: “What’ve you got there, pretty boy,” the Rummicaron drawled, his voice raspy from Roka inhalation damage. He shuffled a little closer, his mouth pulled into that fang-filled grin, opening a maw made for gobbling up entire chunks of meat in one go. A Rummicaron bite could leave devastating damage, they were never unarmed as long as they had teeth, and those even regrew should they lose some. Lucky that I could make my skin as hard as metal, that asshóle was going to find out the hard way what it was like to bite a Metallurgist. Just like the bite of a dagger would mean nothing to me, I’d just bend the blade. Hey, maybe I’d absorb the weapons, I could use the hit to add to my depleted resources." That snippet alone gives so much context about the Terafin species as well as how our MMC thinks about preparing for combat while defending his (future) mate.

I really enjoyed watching the dynamic between MCs shift over time in the story as they both have to learn to trust and rely on each other in ways they haven't before. At the start of the book Tori is understandably frustrated with how Elin treats and sees her like she's helpless or just someone to BE protected: With my hand clutched tightly in Eoin’s, I tried to analyze how I felt about him. How he’d acted all day, I was still angry with him. I was not his mate, he had no right to act like he could lock me back up in my ivory tower. That’s what he wanted, to keep me on a freaking shelf where I was so damn safe I couldn’t even stub my freaking toe. No more, I’d show him that I wasn’t going to go back to that spot he’d assigned me in his mind, that safe zone. I hated the safe zone. This is why we couldn’t work out, nothing had changed that, but that didn’t mean I couldn’t prove to him that I’d grown, that I was not the same girl he’d met half a year ago. I was stronger now, I had my Novalee to protect, and I’d show him that I could protect him too, see how he liked that." So having those kind of strong feelings as a starting point made the journey for these two characters DEEPLY satisfying to watch unfold. 5/5 Stars

I had SUCH high hopes for Tori since book one (I thought she and sunder were going to be an item, but I misjudged their relationship)so I was SUPER eager to read her story. And was SUPER disappointed. I absolutely LOATHED Tori in this book!! She LITERALLY joins in a gunfight with her CHILD strapped to her chest because she wanted to PROVE something!!!She proved she was TSTL I mean, screw the safety of her baby, she's not going to let a male tell her what to do! . All her incessant "I don't need a man,I don't want protection" was irksome and repetitive, but the second they entered the bounty hunter's ship, then she wanted him to guard her because she was apprehensive and scared. I like Eoin. This series has the dubious distinction of having really cool guys and annoying women (well, mainly just noa and Tori. Camila and arianna a were a little irritating too sometimes in their books). This is book 8 of 10,and I'm getting fatigued of "we need an extraction" plots for these characters, but the side characters keep intriguing me (like the sole naga from fierce's tale who inadvertently showed them the stairway,or'teal, and the bounty hunter crew). Questions still persist like how ziame said in his book that his ship was programmed to blow up if he didn't return within a certain time frame, yet he was gone for 3-5 years and found his ship again. Additionally,it was stated that HE didn't have the coordinates to his planet, but the ship did,so why didn't he return to his planet when he found his ship? What the heck is novalee?? Couldn't luka run a DNA test on her and find out what she is comprised of? If KItan is a master shape shifter, why hasn't he actually using that to their benefit? If fierce can camouflage himself as anything, why aren't they using THAT to their benefit????What happened to Luka's family fortune and holdings? I'm actually kind of over them being chased by dramiell (sp) at this point. I am interested in jakar and akri,so I'll finish out the series, but this book's heroine made me want to pull my hair out.

Edit: DNF at 50%. I just could not take anymore of Tori trying to prove herself in dangerous situations with a child and being indignant that eoin didn't want her to get hurt or die. My opinion only. Feel free to read and form your own. But don't say you weren't warned.

Steel Reforged by Robin O’Connor
Gladiators of the Vagabond #8

Eoin and Tori are a bit younger than the previous couples in this series and have been dancing around one another for a while. How they manage to finally find their happily ever after is an action packed story that sees them coming into their own as individuals and as a couple.

What I liked:
* Tori: human, single mother of part alien baby girl, saved from a stasis pod years after leaving Earth, all family deceased, cook, wants to be a good role model for her daughter, rather taken with Eoin BUT wants to assert her independence
* Eoin: raised in a gladiator stable, freed, team player, protective, lethal, metallurgist, imbibes metals and metallic compounds to replenish himself, caring, kind, rather taken with Tori but has trouble giving her freedom and independence
* Novalee: Tori’s seven-month-old daughter, charmer, growing up, loves her mother and Eoin, secure and feels safe, trusting
* The growth the two make individually and in their relationship
* Getting to see and hear about other characters from previous books
* The way Tori and Eoin are thrust together, their resourcefulness, and how they manage to accomplish a quest to free human slaves
* The idea that enemies can become allies with the right incentive
* The introduction to the Naga captain of the mercenary space ship, Varakartoom, and reading that a new spinoff series about this alien group will be written in the future
* The plot, pace, setting, writing and ending with the setup for book 9
* Knowing that there are two more books in this series

What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
* Thinking about the idea of slavery, oppression, and the fact that they are probably likely anywhere on earth and in the universe.

Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Definitely

Thank you to the author and StoryOrigin for the ARC – This is my honest review.

This book kept me up till late wanting to see how it all ends and if the two main characters work out their differences between them and see each other for who they really are and why they act the way they do. Tori was stolen from Earth and wakes up with a daughter Novalee and knows that it will not end well for them if they cannot escape but that all changes where they are saved by the crew of the Vagabound and now with other Human females and there alien Gladiator mates they become her family and the sexy alien Eoin keeps hanging around and tells her she is his mate/ tally but she doesn’t need a protector or a male trying to tell her what to do. Eoin is an Gladiator that was saved and now is part of the crew on the Vagabound that has just saved a human female and her child but after all the loses in his life he finally finds his fated mate in Tori and he will everything in his power to protect them both but she pushes him away telling him she doesn’t need his help and that she can look after herself and her child. Now they must work together to save two human females but Eoin is having trouble letting go but he must if he wants his mate. There is heaps more to this book that will keep the reader on the edge and turning the pages. Great book.

2.5⭐️ Overall, this is a fun series with a good story and interesting characters. Eoin wasn’t really present much in the previous books, and his personality was a wonderful surprise. He was really likable, caring, and kind which could have earned this book a 4⭐️ rating! Unfortunately, as with Arianna in the previous book, I really disliked Tori (but for different reasons). I appreciated her goal to prove to herself and others that she was strong and capable, but she was too immature, unlikable, and unnecessarily contrary/pissed off with Eoin for showing even the slightest bit of concern for her well-being and a little protectiveness. He was not over the top possessive/protective, but her reaction was which made her really annoying. As with the previous books in the series, most of the relationship between MC‘s is squashed in at the very end of the book. There’s some improvement with the writing compared to the previous books, including the spicy scenes, but Tori ruined them for me. She lusted after Eoin, loathed any sign of protectiveness towards her, loved his protectiveness towards her daughter, and was turned on by anything she perceived as dominance in him. She was a mess of contradictions, but she didn’t seem to love him, while he loved her unconditionally. Ultimately this is supposed to be a love story and the love just wasn’t there until the end.

Great read!

An adventure from start to finish. Tori tired of the overprotective alien that she's in love with makes some very dangerous decisions to prove herself capable. Eoin, a metallurgist also in love with Tori. He wants to protect her at every turn but makes him way to overprotective of her and its driving her crazy. But because he loves her and her baby he will do anything to protect and keep them safe. Apparently Tori and Eoin had started something before but his overprotectiveness stopped it. I really wished the author would've done a flashback. Tori was able prove to herself and Eoin that she was capable of taking care of herself. I don't agree with a lot of her decisions but hey that's me. lol Good for her for having some faith but leaving your baby with an alien you don't know and have never seen with your own 2 eyes... nope can't get on board with that. I know they spoke to each other and she got along with him buuuuut nope pass! Again just me. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Still a great book and it does introduce you to the mercenaries from the Varakartoom that had been chasing them. Looking forward to starting that series. 😍😁😍 But before that... on to the next book and seeing what troubles Meena gets into with Jakar.

Sigh, I love this series. I’m not sure how Robin O’Connor does it, but I have thoroughly enjoyed each instalment am always excited for the next one!

Steel Reforged is Eoin and Tori’s story. He absorbs metals (love this) and she has a baby to protect. After being abducted from Earth, Tori finds herself pregnant, and after giving birth to baby Novalee, she continues to struggle to find her way in her new reality. Good thing Eoin is there is to keep her, and her baby, safe and protected, even if she doesn’t ask for it. When a rescue mission goes awry, Eoin and Tori need to stick together to find a way out, and in process, figure out exactly what they feel for each other.

Seriously, I love these books. Because I’ve been following this series since the beginning, I feel like things get just a little better with each subsequent instalment. The author does a great job combining old characters with new and while Steel Reforged could definitely be a stand-alone, what I’d learned from previous books made it all the better. I liked Tori from before and love how she has developed over the series. I was a little frustrated at how often she pushed Eoin away, but they DO make a great match, even if he was more than a little overprotective of her. I’m so happy they finally got together! I will be eagerly waiting for the next book in this series!

Thank you StoryOrigin and Robin O’Connor for my copy! I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. All above thoughts and opinions are my own.

Ahh, Young Love!

Steel Reforged is book 8 in the Gladiators of the Vagabond series.

The youngest of the freed gladiators, Eoin has some growing up to do! Even with his extra unique alien abilities, powerful physique and protective nature he has to prove himself to his fated mate. Eoin finally realizes has to let her go and flourish into her own to earn her love and respect.

We have been reading about young, sweet, shy and insecure Tori from the beginning of the series and now we get a captivating story about her growing bravery, self esteem and self reliance. She does not want to be coddled and even though she loves Eoin, she knows their relationship is fragile if she can’t find the strength within herself.

Throw in her cutie pie baby Novalee, a whole lot of suspense, action and excitement from the scary characters from the mercenary ship the Varakartoom (they are an intriguing bunch) and you have yourself another fantastic book in the series.

Also, there is a spin off series about the Varakartoom crew called the Monster Mercenary Mates. Protected by the Alien Mercenary is part of the My Monster, My Protector series but is also a prequel to Robin O’Connor’s Monster Mercenary Mates series, start with this then move on to Caught by the Alien Mercenary which is book 1. I have already read them and highly recommend this series too after finishing the Gladiators of the Vagabond series.

Our heroine Tori is finally getting her story. Abducted from Earth, torn from her large loving family before being impregnated, Tori has fought hard to find to find herself in this new environment. She meets Eoin and hopes she has found someone who understands her. Eoin knows he has found his mate but after a lifetime of loss he finds it hard to reign in his protectiveness and risks driving Tori away. With a mission to save two more humans, they are given a second chance to find their happiness.

The world building and character development is engaging and well written. The story draws you in and as a reader you are invested in the relationship between the main characters. We are given the opportunity to know both old and new supporting characters. I have enjoyed all the books in this series, and I am looking forward to learning about the crew of the Varakartoom.

This is a very witty book. For those who have read the previous books of the vagabond series we finally get to know the shy Tori a lot better and light is shed on her personality and her character. Tori goes on a mission and follows Eoin on the notorious Yengar station to help him save some imprisoned humans. Eoin is overprotective of her st first and that pisses her off. Throughout the very intriguing mission their relationship evolves and at the end of the book Tori has accomplished a lot and changed for the better. We get a glimpse at other interesting characters like the Asrai twins and the Naga master. The love story is also very real and the dynamic between Eoin and Tori is well crafted. Baby Novalee is adding a cute note to the entire story too. A fun and suspenseful read all at once. Don’t miss out and go grab a copy!!

I enjoyed this book. Great world building and characters. Firstly let me just say I appreciated the appendix at the beginning of the book to describe the Vagabond aliens and their mates, as well as the different alien species. It was a nice refresher. Eoin and Tori go on a mission to rescue humans, and make a good team together. But they both have their own faults to deal with. Eoin is overprotective and wants Tory to stay behind where she'll be safe. Tori is determined to be independent and not coddled, even at the cost of walking into danger, or as a human putting herself at risk. These two will need to find a balance and rely on each other. A fun adventure. 4 stars

Did I Hear Someone Say Overprotective?

This is the story of an overprotective alien and a extremely shy human that just wants to prove herself. Tori grew up with overprotective brothers who always took care of her. Making her way with a half alien baby on the Vagabond, she established herself as the ships cook. she is in love with Eoin, but he drives her batty with his need to protect her. It takes them being separated from their crew and experiencing several hairy situations for them both to truly see the other’s love and for her hunky alien to give her space to grow. I enjoyed watching Tori come out of her shell and Eoin to really appreciate his fierce little mate.

I enjoyed this story and the evolution of Eoin and Tori's relationship. Tori was gratified to see Eoin become less protective as time went on. She really tried to show that she was independent and could take care of herself; while I admire that, I took exception to her leaving her baby alone with some guy she had never even laid eyes on. Other than that, I thought all the characters were great, and I ended up loving the crew from the Varakartoom. I enjoyed Robin O'Connor's storytelling and writing style as I usually do, and I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

I didn't even know this guy because he joined the crew after we left for other stories...I think after Luka left? Anyway, he was mentioned in the background a few times, but I was kind of sad to get his story before Jakar finally gets his shot. Ah well, that didn't really matter pretty quickly because metal man is stinking cool. I love his Metallurgist skills! Seeing Tori grow in confidence and him grow in trust was a really great arc. And more baby Nova is always welcome. I'm wondering if we'll get some Varakartoom stories eventually because several of them had some significant page time in this book.

Eoin and Tori have a great story. Eoin had reason to be intrigued by Tori. He felt it from her early. Tori needed time to find the inner strength she had while also exploring her attraction in all ways to Eoin. Add the cutest baby and you have a great story. Love the supporting characters that tie this tale together and show the blurry lines between what makes a being good and evil. Hot bossy intimacy as well. It’s a good one!!.

Book 8 of Gladiators of the Vagabond
Another engaging read in the Gladiators of the Vagabond series. The author’s imaginative world building, and wonderful characters keeps you turning the pages. Storyline with an overprotective H, a heroine coming into her own, danger, determination, relationship growth, hot spice, evil, great support characters, and sweetness lead to an HEA. Epilogue sets up next story.

I really enjoyed reading this book, the action, the plot and the romance. I do wish there was more romance in this book but I did really enjoy the storyline of the book regardless and how I got to see how Tori grow more confident and powerful throughout the story. Especially since seeing Tori throughout all the other stories it was nice to see her own journey and her personality come through more.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone a fan of the series or for someone just looking for a good action-romance.

Another amazing story! I have been a fan since the beginning of this series and it only gets better. Men no matter the species, often think we need protecting as the fairer sex. Tori is determined to teach Eoin she can be tough and an asset in any situation. A simple job turns bad quickly and Tori has her chance to prove she is more than a pretty face. Eoin actually has to depend on her if he hopes to survive. Strap in for a fast paced ride as Tori shines in her new role. Muscles aren't the only assets in a sticky situation.

This was a great second chance romance that brings together Tori and Eoin. They had a night together previously, but they get another chance when they're thrust together to try and rescue other humans. I loved little Novalee, Tori's baby, and the fact that she had impact in the story. The romance between Eoin and Tori was steamy and the story was full of action and adventure. Told in dual POVs, this well written story and fast-paced story is a fab addition to the series :D

Got to love these uber protective aliens who don't think they're good enough for their fated mates.

Eoin, still hurting from all his losses, can't resist his tiny human and her child. Whilst Tori is trying to learn to stand up for herself and not hide behind others.

Robin writes wonderful stories with action, plot twists, personal angst and so much heat. Another fabulous addition to the series.

Eoin is not like any alien I have known.

He is nicknamed “metallurgist”. He uses metals as a way to repair his body. He can also take raw materials and process them in his body. The description of these things is so cool. Tori has been around since book one. She has now evolved from a naïve scared kid to a confident woman. I’m sorry we are getting near the end of this series.

this was another winner in the Gladiators of the Vagabond series, it had everything that I've expected from this series. Robin O'Connor does a great job in creating a good plot and the characters were what I was looking for. It does a great job in creating this world and left me wanting to read more.
