Poison Penitentiary #2

Curse of the Fae

Rate this book
Hades and his army are out for blood. Too bad I’m their target….

I hope you’re prepared because your favorite alpha fae is back and ready for action, and this time it’s personal.

Warden Blackwater has far from given up. I guess she didn’t like the fact that I had four handsome friends willing to help me escape. Because now she’s upped the stakes, putting a price on my head and on my men as well. And Hades is all too eager to claim the prize for himself.

If that wasn’t bad enough, now my brother is at the center of a millennia old family curse. And Blackwater plans to sacrifice him to subdue the curse.

I wish I could say that my team was ready and rearing to battle it out with her and help me save my brother. But all isn’t well between me and my men.

Alexandros and Broderick straight up killed me in a past life and now they expect me to just get over it like it never happened? While my sweet Jaime, or should I say Zero’s better half, plans to stay in prison forever just to keep me safe from him?

And Broderick? He claims to have had a change of heart and now he says he’s in love with me. No way, I don’t trust that crafty dragon as far as I can throw him.

With Blackwater and Hades’s army out to get us, will they even need to destroy us or will we sabotage ourselves first?

I have been so excited for this since I read book 1 and it didn’t disappoint!
.
I absolutely love the world Taylor has taken us to. It’s definitely a unique story and the interesting interpretations and spins she put on regular paranormal/fantasy have me wanting more. It can be a bit tedious reading the same kind of variation to a creature but this book gives us something new.
.
So the goal to free Micheal is still on coming into this and after that slap in the face twist at the end of book 1 my anticipation for more twists and turns went up another level and we certainly got that. New creatures are added in this one, that I have never seen before, higher stakes and of course more drama! This book had it all.
.
The world build of this series is out of this world, the details, the different levels we explore and the amount of details gives you clear images and gives you the full experience. The characters are great, I absolutely love Jamie, and I was fascinated watching the truce between Alexandros and Broderick grow and how even though all the guys are alphas they give Jessy the space and respect to still be the alpha she is and not put her in a box.
.
I think that’s what I enjoyed most was watching them all work as a team, learn each other and how they all work as a unit but also their level of respect and devotion to jessy and each other and the place they hold in her life. I would have to say the one thing I had trouble connecting with or even accepting was the her status with Ashley. I don’t really like the reincarnation aspect only because they are supposed to be the same soul but it always feels like they are seperate which I don’t understand admittedly, but I still found it intriguing and I’m still open to learning more about it and seeing if my opinion on that can or will change.
.
Other than that I thought this was an amazing sequel and I can’t wait for book 3!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I loved book one, and I enjoyed this second book just as much! Jessy continues to be such a bada**—fierce, determined, and full of heart. What I especially love about her is the way her love for her brother shines through. She would go to the ends of the earth (or through the darkest fae realms) just to get him back, and that devotion makes her such a relatable and compelling heroine.

Jessy definitely got the short end of the stick when it comes to family, with parents who didn’t exactly win any “Parent of the Year” awards. But that just makes the bond with her brother even more meaningful—he stuck by her side when no one else did, and their relationship gives the story so much depth.

This book brought action, heart, and grit in equal measure. I’m excited to see where Jessy’s journey takes her next!

In this second book we find Jessy, Jamie, and Alexandros in solitary confinement and being tortured day after day. Jessy was so close to finding her bother only to find out that her mother is the warden and she has Michael trapped and being drained for his power. Once back in general population of the prison, the warden has now teamed up with Hades and put another bounty on Jessy's head. Only this time, the warden has added the guys to the mix. Will Jessy be able to find and free Michael as well as save her the and guys from the bounty?

Yikes! It seems Jessy has her hands full after being in Solitary for two whole months after her break in into Gold Block in the last book. Despite the extreme loneliness and torture, she comes out with her head held high, spirit intact, ready to devise a new plan to save her brother and escape Pembroke. However, things have changed dramatically while she was away. She is no longer feared as the 'A' class that she is and an even bigger target has been put on her head. But do you think that hinders Jessy and her guys? Of course not! Jessy's admirable determination to do anything for those she loves and the insurmountable devotion and support that the guys have for her will get them through anything. Together they will prevail. And let's be honest. This book is a little crazy. There is so much going on that is a change to Jessy's original plans, making it an exciting and fun rollercoaster ride with all of the action and the little side quests that need to be done in order to accomplish the main goal. I like that this isn't some one and done mission. Everything is branching off of another, making the issues that didn't seem so bad at first, even more problematic as the story continues and we find out the hard truth about the situation she is in. It was nice to see Jessy be open to asking and receiving help when she previously planned this as a solo job, especially when things are much more troublesome than she thought they would be. We even see new sides to some of the guys in this second book. Sure, they are alpha--dominant, yet undeniably sweet towards Jessy. As the guys get on the same page with Jessy, group dynamics change and make things balance out into a much better and stable team. However, guilt is a big setback in this book with several of the characters, allowing feelings to slip in and cause a last minute change of mind, but hopefully everything gets sorted out soon. There is a bigger problem approaching according to that cliffhanger. Definitely not what I was expecting. The next book should be an exciting one!

Alright! Book 2!! Woo!! I really like the whole idea of this series, being set in a supernatural prison where Jessy has to fight for her life while gathering her own harem of 4 hot as sin men. I really loved the growing dynamic between Jessy and her 4 guys, and great steamy scenes in Book 2! The story moved along great, and the cliffhanger at the end was good! However, going back to my review of Book 1, there are still a lot of grammatical/punctual errors throughout this book that definitely should have been caught through edits. It didn't take away from the story, but was just a little annoying to see as a reader. Also I still feel like dialogue and inner monologue is somewhat forced, I just feel like there could be better ways to word it to make the conversations flow better. Overall, this was a really good continuation in this series, and I can't wait for Book 3!

Okay, so a lot happens at the end of book 1, and we pick up in book 2 with some truth bombs. Boom 💥 💥 💥 and then slap just because she can. Wow, that's a meany of a family. Then, kick out the door to the wolves for killing.

Anyway, beside the whole head on the platter thing. There's more RH smut moments. Although I feel bad for Jamie, I tried to work it out, but I don't think that Wolf hasn't had a dip in the pool 🤔

Behind the smut, there is angst over Ashley, who still has strong feelings on past events. A dragon tries to get in the pool club, and a bit of working out relationships and what is happening. While it's clear some kind of bond has taken place between the four...still confused if they know they are bonded and more... well, I'm just a little confused 😕

I found this book to be funny, hot, smutty chemistry, and fast-paced action. It was a little meh in parts

I found this book better than book 1 in the series. The plot was a lot more developed, as were the characters. The steamy scenes are so hot, they could start a fire! Jessica was far more credible in this book, as she faces almost insurmountable problems on her quest to free her brother. Trapped in the prison, tortured once more by her mother, the only saving grace for Jessica is her unquenchable thirst to free Michael. She faces the hordes that Hades has set loose on her, and with the aid of her majestic lovers, is she able to keep from the clutches of all who wanted her dead. She finally gets a break and finds her brother, only to learn a far more devastating truth. A more comprehensive insight and perspective made this book a great read

I don’t know how I feel about this book. It continues on the storyline from where it left off from book one in series. Has a lot more steamy details than the first :) but I didn’t feel like it got somewhere till the end. The beginning half of the book felt more like a filler. I mean I know that it needed that back story to get to the good parts but I duno.... maybe it was just me. I love the FMC and her guys. The ending was great it’s the best part for me of the book. The suspense and the excitement of her finally getting close to the goal of hers but also you know something else is to come and I can’t wait to see what the author comes up with. Can’t wait for next book in series! :)

I loved book 1 and I enjoyed this second book just as much! I love Jessy, she's a bada** and has so much love for her brother. She would do anything just to get him back. Jessy got the short end of the stick when it comes to loving parents, so it only goes to show why she loves her brother so much for sticking by her side.

The guys are such sweeties and I love each of their quirks. Alexandros makes me laugh, Jamie's a sweetie, Drake slowly grows on you and Broderick is fun. They'll do anything for Jess and she's realizing how easy it will be to keep them in her life.

Her parents can suxk it!

You want a book that will make you react? This is the one. As usual Tate James writing is compelling building characters that you live or hate but they make you react and the depth of her world building is impressive. I adored Curse of the Fae and i cannot wait for the third and final book of the series. Sit down tight and make sure you have time to read uninterrupted because you won’t want to get pulled out of that book!!

Book 2 is darker than book 1 i think. Jessy (FMC) finds herself the focus of not only Mistress Blackwater & her mind games as well as Hades & his army. She definitely goes through Up's and Downs in this book. Put into Solitary for months & tortured continuously she starts the book losing a bit of faith in herself but with her guys - Alexandros, Jamie & Broderick (and a new addition to her harem) she navigates all the plot twists in this book. This series just keeps getting better and better. Im loving reading it so much. I cant wait to get my hands on the last book now

Taylor Spratt has done it again!!! What an amazing addition to the series! This book picks up right where the first left off. I couldn’t wait to see what happened to Jessy and her men. I was not disappointed! This book took me on a roller coaster ride of emotions. Decision were made, sleep was lost, zero regrets! I loved every minute of it! I cannot wait for the next book! ❤️

What a second book!!! 10 out of 10 for action and drama I couldn't put this book down. The story continues on from the first book with Jessy spending 2 months in Solitary Confinement and secrets are revealed but more questions need answers which is what keeps the reader hooked. I love Jessy's sass and strength but also we get a glimpse of her being vulnerable.
Can't wait for book three!

I really should have stopped with book one but I didn’t. I had high hopes that the great premise would turn into a great story. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen.
This book read like it was written by a young adult trying to shoehorn SAT words into every other sentence. Not to mention the plot holes took over the plot itself.
I have happily read books with glaring plot holes because the story/characters were compelling. I wish this series fell into that category.
This idea is good. The book itself is a mess.

Ok so I’m going to review all the books the entire series. First off let me state the 3 books are not standalone’s as in fact they are just one long complete book, Chopped into 3 parts. Second let me state for the record I hate that, right off at the beginning. Had I not been given all 3 books at the same time, My review would be full of malice, And never read anything from this author ever again. I am not one of those people who likes my books to end abruptly in the middle of a story! I firmly strongly believe every book needs a conflict and a complete resolution to said conflict. And a new book must have a new conflict and a new resolution to said new conflict. I do not mind if the conflict is created by the same villain(s), but only that the current conflict be resolved before started a new book. This is one full book chopped up into 3 parts. Unless author is going to offer them as a volume, Or reader likes waiting 6 months or more for the next book that will abruptly end to continued story. Or if readers don’t mind getting books separately and the pitfalls that comes with getting each book separately, if you know what I mean. Ok, now that we have established that. This story is well developed and so are the characters. I think the author needs a better group of alpha/beta readers as there were some glaring potholes in the story that kept me up at night and prevented me from sleeping! So not trying to spoil anything we already know MFC gets herself sent to magic prison, to rescue her brother. Upon arrival, makes deadly enemies. Her “allies” i.e her men, help her go on this quest to free her brother. They need to obtain a magical fang, nearly dying in order to get it. Getting trapped for hours, One ally produces a Magick bag that provides you with whatever you desperately need.. ok? Why didn’t they procure the fang that way? Ok? but a blanket and booze is reasonable but after escaping, they are so focused on the mission they literally don’t eat for 3 days, missing all meals! Then the big battle, villain #1 gives villain #2 THE SWORD OF the DOMINION, AN INDOMITABLE SWORD to kill Main characters to procure his own freedom from prison. Ok, so why doesn’t he use said sword to kill all guards with his army and every single prisoner just walk right out! And later I wanted to slap MFC cause she has too many inner monologues with herself while lives are at stake! it’s annoying! I found myself skipping past. Also because this was 3 separate parts there was an enormous amount of reminders of the previous interactions and past events. I had to skip through all that sludge in order keep the flow of the story moving along. Then the battle of century comes, MFC leaves to rescue brother ok, but her allies are exhausted and battle weary already, and somehow she manages to take 3 hours in what the story makes you think is only 20 mins to rescue him. Ok? Hum? Then when arriving to battle to see her “men” all dying, she takes nearly two chapters to inner monologue as well, as having a long discussion with her brother about why she should help her “friends” instead of leaving them. I wanted to slap the beguezzus out of her! and maybe the author too. Then villain #2 w/ said indomitable sword just stands there watching his huge army being destroyed by 4 magical’s Then later she managed to defeat villain#2 but leaves said indomitable sword of dominion on the battlefield! What? ok? Hmm? Then goes to infirmary to save “friends” but there is helter skelter in prison villain #1, who is the warden, is near dead. No one is in charge of prison, and all inmates are rioting and looting. So now they have no food.. um? Excuse me don’t you have a magical bag that gives and provides you with what you desperately need? So far they only used it to get a blanket for sex and booze. Also, an inmate has a crystal that turns people into frozen glass. Why doesn’t anyone use this against the guards and just walk right out of the prison? These glaring questions have kept me up at night while reading this story. I’ve barely slept in 2 days reading these 3 books. Thank the powers that be, they were given to me. I’d be mad instead of restless, confused, & needing answers!
I received 3 book series for free. Thank you, I really did love the series flaws and all. Hope to be a Alpha reader for this author. Hint hint I got to have a wonderful conversation with the author as I actually won all three ebooks on a Facebook contest. And i offered to alpha read for her. Hope she takes me up on the offer. With all said and done this was a great book. Flaws & all!

Jessy is back in book two of Poison Penitentiary. She entered the prison expecting to free her brother Michael but she got more than she bargained for when she entered. There are a few things I wanted to mention in this review but decided to keep them to myself as they may be spoilers for those who haven't read book one yet.

During book one, Jessy managed to gain four men. One her childhood neighbour, Jamie, a vampire, Alexandros, a demon, Broderick and a surly dragon called Drake. They really do add to the complications of her life in prison.

This book is an absolutely amazing addition to this series, and I honestly can't wait to read book three. All the guys are amazing, they all have their own unique personalities and in this book, it's nice to see Drake become less of an alpha-hole and finally realise his connection with Jessy, even though she herself still isn't sure about him.

The book ends with another brilliant cliffhanger, which leaves you wanting more. I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes for all the characters.

This is one of my favorite series with all the twists that happen throughout the book. It is amazing! So we continue right where we leave off in book one. Lets just say that Jessy is one tough chick to still be able to have the mental capacity to stay sane after what she has gone through. Alexandros, Broderick, Jamie learn to work together. Jessy still has some reservations and learns that she really does care about them. Lets not forget Drake, he realizes that he does care for Jessy and wants to be with her. Now this all gets very interesting to say the least. These guys are trying to help her save her brother from Warden Blackwater who is her MOTHER! Who by the way is trying to kill her and is offering up freedom to anyone who can kill Jessy. So will the guys now be collateral damage for helping her? What will she do if they are in danger? Can she find her brother? Well, like I said, this is getting very interesting especially at the end. I did not see that coming! Now I have to wait for the next book to come out. This is a definite must read series.

Jessy isn't going to let a little solitary confinement stop her from freeing her brother, but the guilt of drawing Jamie and Alexandros into punishment with her is going to hard to live with. Will she let her men Jamie, Alexandros, Broderick and Drake join her next attempt? Can they convince her that she is worth it for them? Thing certainly aren't going to be easy for her with Blackwater upping the chances of Jessy and now her men been taken out by other prisoners. I loved this addition to this series, to enjoy this series best you should read the first book before this one. Jessy is still the strong, driven woman who cares for those around her, and I love her and her sassy character. Her men are still as interesting, and determine to win her as ever, I had a few laughs over the bickering they have at times too. I am eagerly awaiting the next book, please hurry.
I am voluntarily reviewing a copy I received, and giving my thoughts and opinions on it.

A fantastic addition to this series. This picks up where the first book left off. It's fast-paced, has lots of action, and suspenseful. Jessy and her harem are all facing danger still and they're continuing on their mission to save her brother. There's more information that's revealed about the Gilchrest family. The warden is still on a huge powertrip, has a bounty out for Jessy and her men and has others after them. Even Hades is on his high horse to get to Jessy. You also have somebody else that's joining the harem and there's a few surprises revealed. The ending was a bit shocking but it draws together some of the things going on in both of the books, leading up to the mystery of the Gilchrest family heir. You'll be left wanting and needing more. I can't wait to read the next in this series.

This is the 2nd book in the Poison Penitentiary series and we start right off right where book one left us....and what an ending book one had! we pick up with Jessy and her two months in solitary, yet more secrets come to light as Jessy struggles to protect her guys....Drake, Broderick, Aleksandros and Jaime. As a group they all try to defeat the evil and search for Jessy's brother Michael. This was really exciting and full of suspense. I love how protective the guys are of Jessy and how they try to protect her. Really cant wait to see where Taylor takes this story, especially with that ending!! If your a fan of the paranormal RH romance then you need to read this exciting series.

Could this book get any better than book one? Yes! More action? Yes! More riveting? Yes ! I could go on and on this book pulls you in again and you don’t want to put it down. Before you read it this book had a refresher points in what had happened in the first book and I loved it , that was a great idea nothing big but was enough that it jolted my mind and I remembered everything what happened in the first book ! Great for someone like me that is constantly reading books and may need a little nudge in memory ! Jessy is still a bad ass and I love all the boys !
You get some answers but some still need answering ! And the ending OMG what a ending love it but hate it hehehe
I am hanging waiting on the edge for the next book ! Loving this series !

Can't stop an alpha fae

This book picks up after book 1 ( also starts with a recap-which I love) and Jessie is in solitary. She has a pretty rough go of it but for for those who are squeamish don't worry there is nothing to intense.

After Jessie is released things have changed and the prison and with Jessie. She is a bit shaken when she comes out but make no mistake she is still a bad*** alpha fae. With the help of her guys she tried to find her brother will dodging mommy dearest and everyone else who wants to kill her.

Jessie in her men grow closer in this book, not only to her but we start to see some 👀 dare I say friendships...ok maybe just being cordial 😂 We get another great ending can't wait for book 3

This was a great follow up to book one. At the end of book one Jessy finds herself stuck in solitary confinement after a failed rescue attempt of her brother. While in solitary her mother reveals some shocking information about their family history and the family curse. Once Jessy is released her and her men strategize for the best way to rescue her brother and escape prison. Of course this won't be an easy task considering that during those 2 months in solitary Hades managed to turn a good chunk of the prison onto his side, and mother dearest put out a hit on Jessy and all of her men. A certain stubborn dragon decides to join the fray but will the added man power and muscle be enough when everyone is trying to kill them? Make sure you pick up this book to find out!

Wow what a second book. This had so much action and drama that I was glued to the pages. It's definitely not boring and held by attention right from the start to the end. I loved the characters and how the story builds as the plot grows. Secrets revealed and also alot of questions that I'm begging to be answered. It's hot, the scenes so detailed and exciting. There's so much going on that you'll be drawn in and begging for the next book. Prison book that just keeps getting better and better. The writing is engaging, the story phenomenal and the characters are memorable. Can't wait for book three!

The second installment starts off with Jessy returning from solitary confinement after her attempt to rescue her brother and escape the prison. The big reveal that Blackwater is her mother has lead to more family secrets and the true reason behind Micheal's confinement. We've also gotten to know Jessy's men a little better and find out just how far they are willing to go to help her in her quest. The cliffhanger at the end was just as shocking as the one in the first book. I have so many questions that need answers, lol! Overall, this was a fast paced adventure with plenty of sexy times sprinkled in.

It was good

It was a good enough sequel but it didn’t hold my interest as much as the first one. The editing was better than the first book but still needs help. It felt too easy and too rushed the way Jessy got everything to find her brother and escape and then the whole thing with Drake was just way too fast. I get that he realized he liked her but it happened to fast on both his end and hers. I wanted way more interaction between Jessy and Zero....that was a bit of a letdown because that could’ve been really good. I don’t know....I expected more I guess. I’ll read the last book when it comes out just to see how this all wraps up and ends.
