A bond that was severed. A love that persisted. A marriage that ended before it even began.

For twenty years, I’ve watched Isabella from the shadows—loving her from a distance, protecting her without her knowing. She was always mine, even when she didn’t want to be.

Our wedding was meant to bring peace, but it only brought destruction. What should have been the start of our forever ended in a single night, leaving nothing but resentment in its wake. She walked away, and I let her, knowing I had no right to ask her to stay.

But now, my empire is on the verge of collapse, my enemies closing in. To save my legacy, I need her by my side—not just in name, but in truth.

This time, I won’t fail her. This time, I’ll fight for her.
But after twenty years of pain and betrayal, is there anything left for us to salvage?

I’ve never read a mafia style book with so many green flags. I’ve been waiting for Hunters book from the very beginning and it did not disappoint. You could feel the love from Hunter and Bella from the very beginning. This just might be my favorite book in the Level series by VR Tennent.

This book was a page turner! Once again we are set in The Level world this time with Hunter Devane’s story. His is one very complex, tragic, and suspenseful story.

After being apart for twenty years, Hunter reconnects with his estranged wife Isabella. She obviously has a lot of resentment and is very apprehensive about rekindling the relationship they once had.

This is their second chance and he’ll do anything to prove his love for her. Even if his business is falling apart and all sorts of threats are coming forth.

What really stood out from this book is the ability of the author to show the emotional aspect of these very strong and complex characters, adding so much depth to their tragic story and making it more than a mafia romance.

I love me a good ol mafia romance. This is one that I have been looking forward to.

For three books, I wondered what Hunter's story was. What could have made him into the knife throwing hothead that he is?

Hunter is intense & triggered easily. He takes no crap from anyone & that includes his friends.

What I wasn’t prepared for was the way that Hunter & Bella's marriage started. The fact that they were able to survive 20 years apart & such a traumatic event is a blessing in itself.

The way this story unfolds is captivating to say the least.

You know waiting for Hunter's book was excruciating to say the least, and he came out swinging with full force and he made me fall in love with him and his bleeding heart. Amazing and wonderful this man is. I was not expecting Hunter's story to go the way it did. Wow, just WOW! The love this man has for his childhood sweetheart turn his wife Isabella is a thing of beauty. The love that spans 2 decades is just pouring out of this book and I was here for it. I ate it up. Of course we have our usual suspects whom we know so dearly and fallen in love with, so good to see them. It was a perfect way to end this rollercoaster of a series. Victoria, take a bow!

I LOVED these two!
This book was emotional, angsty and had so many swoon worthy moments!

Bella is an amazing fmc. She’s very strong. She’s been through so much. Hunter is absolutely amazing. The sweet letters, no ow drama, and so much growth with him, I loved reading about it. Hunter is an intense mafia man, but wow does he love Bella. She really calms him too, I just loved that. He needs her so much and you really see that in this book.

I felt like this was sort of meh. also, I just don't buy the 20 years apart and yet one night and a "wedding do-over" fixed all of their problems.
And I felt horrible for Isabella, but she behaved as if their wedding wasn't also traumatic for Hunter.

The conclusion to author VR Tennent’s Level series is here with the final interconnected Standalone, book 4 Hunter.
In this Touch Her & Die, Second Chance, Mafia Romance, we follow the story of Hunter Devane and his estranged wife Isabella ‘Bella’ Espinosa through the telling of their dual POVs.

The journey of Hunter and Bella was a fairly emotionally rollercoaster ride with learning about their relationship of how it formed and came to be. As well as getting answers to how it eventually led to the two becoming estranged for over 20 years.
It was not only heartbreaking learning what led to Hunter and Bella separating.
But also interesting too, since all the revelations that came to light were completely unexpected IMO, having surprised me with never anticipated a storyline like that.

Simultaneously it was a rocky ride, given the bumps along the way from the ups and downs the two found themselves navigating through. And not just in the present. But the past two, considering what we learn in the flashbacks.
One thing for sure was author VR Tennent ensured no stone was left unturned from all that was revealed, helping to finally filling in the missing pieces to all the questions raised in the process.
And not just from reading Hunter, but throughout the Level series too.

It was definitely interesting to see the different sides to Hunter. One being the strong, tough, alpha male in the Level boardroom as well as amongst his men.
The other being soft and gentle yet possessive towards Bella with the love and adoration he showered upon her.
As for Bella, she truly proved why she was the perfect other half to Hunter. And would always be the only one for him. Her standing up for herself and challenging him in ways.

I have to say despite the time and space distance having passed between Hunter and Bella, when they were together they didn’t make it feel or seem that way.
Their love and affection towards each other coming very much alive. Even when Bella tried to fight it.
Absence makes the heart grow fonder was most definitely the case in their relationship. Particularly when it came to Hunter.

It was nice seeing the inclusion of secondary characters in form of the other guys from Level and their partners. Seeing how they were all doing, especially the ladies since their presence is rare compared to the men.
However with that said, from what was shown of Emma, it still had me disliking her the same. Especially with how she was towards Damon.
Honestly it still had me wishing Connie had survived, so that she and Damon were together instead.

My main critique would have to be the lack of exploration within Hunter and Bella’s Second Chance.
It just seemed like there was potential for more to be shown than what was actually showcased, since there wasn't enough for my liking at least.
Plus it didn’t help that when Hunter and Bella were together attempting to fix and rebuild their relationship. All of a sudden it would become overshadowed by the subplots taking over and pushing theirs into the shadows IMO.
Even though I know the subplots had its importance in helping to bring the whole series to its end. It would’ve been nice if it wasn’t at the expense of their story, since that should’ve been the main focus.

My other critique came from the subplot of Hunter’s business.
I can’t deny it seemed a little too much for my liking causing my attention to wane, having to take breaks. It just felt too wordy and flat for my liking, causing me to lose some of the excitement I had towards wanting to read Hunter.

All in all, despite my critiques Hunter still made for a good read, given the moments I had enjoyed.
As well as completing the Level series by wrapping everything up once and for all.
The icing on the cake being the epilogue author VR Tennent included that allowed us a peek of everyone from the small jump further down into the year presented.

Tropes: dark romance / mafia romance, second change romance, arranged marriage, forced proximity, found family, dual POV

VR Tennent has done it again! She has written another book that had me obsessed from start to finish! This is the fourth book in the Levels series and it has all the feels! There’s heartbreak, betrayal, delicious spice, a bada** FMC and yet another man you will swoon over. I seriously cannot recommend this book enough!

“Hunter and i met as children, and what started as a childish fascination developed into true love. Our parents were close in both business and friendship, and our marriage was arranged years before we met. But we were one of the few couples from our world who went into wedlock in love. We were lucky, or so we thought”

Hunter and Isabella had a romance that blossomed with stolen glances and kisses that started when they were young. Living for the day that they would be married as planned by their parents. Except they were raised in a world where there was always a fight for power and things were transactional; ending their love affair before it really truly began.

“Our marriage was over before it had begun…Our wedding day had been the happiest of my life, but the night had destroyed it all.”

Hunter loved Isabella so unapologetically that even thought he was heart broken he allowed her to slip from his fingers after their wedding night because being together was to painful for her. They were estranged for 20 years but remained married all while Hunter loved and protected her from a distance.

“Time is meant to be the great healer. We are told that if enough days pass, pain will dull, memories fade, and that we can eventually move on. This is a lie. No amount of time will heal what I’ve lost losing you. All that happens is that what is already broken, calcifies and hardens. I have become a splintered version of the man i once was”

In 20 years, Hunter’s flame for Isabella never wavered. After all that time Isabella finally asked for a divorce - the failed relationship to painful to continue on for her, she wanted to find herself and move on from the love that shattered her. Like Hunter, Isabella never really moved on but she wanted to put her painful past behind her. Now Hunter has to do anything and everything in his power to make things right and get back the woman he has always loved before she was truly out of his grasp for good. Proving to her that he was still the man she once fell in love with, and not just the villain the world knows him as.

“I am a man in love. I always have been…There is nothing untrue in what I say Bella. There has only ever been you.”

Do yourself a favor and add alllll of her book to you TBR, you will not be sorry! Thank you to VR Tennent for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Hunter, a dark, mafia romance, is the fourth book in The Level series and features Isa(bella) Espinosa and Hunter Devane. While it can be appreciated on its own, I would recommend starting from the beginning to fully appreciate these complex, morally grey characters. Harrison is book one, Damon is book two, and Chase is book three. Hunter is the final book in this delectable series.

Hunter and Bella had an arranged marriage which served as a way to unite two powerful families - the Devanes of London and the Espinosas of Barcelona. The two were fortunate in that they fell in love. Hunter was kind and loving towards Bella, atypical of many of the men in their line of work. The two parted ways following their nuptials due to... well, you'll find out when you read the book.

Twenty years later, Bella decides to approach Hunter seeking a divorce, making their split official. Hunter however never stopped loving Bella and counters with a proposal. He has had some bad press and needs to come across as the loving and devoted husband so he tells Bella that he will sign the papers at the end of a year if she agrees to move back in with him and portray the loving wife. She reluctantly agrees not knowing that Hunter has no intention of ever letting her go. He plans to win her back and prove that he always has, and always will, adore her.

I loved getting to see a different side of Hunter. In showing us glimpses of his past, the author allows readers to better understand his trauma and what he endured to be the man he is today. Hunter will always be an alpha male - possessive and controlling, but the softness he shows Bella was a beautiful side of him never seen by others. It is was definitely unexpected but welcomed. I also appreciate how this final book in the series clearly portrays their found family - four hard men who now all have wonderful families and would do anything for their loved ones.

I'll miss the men of the Level but I'm definitely keen to see what Tennent will release next. A new series or a standalone story? Time will tell.

Just finished Hunter by VR Tennet. It is book 4 and final book of the Level series. It follows mafia leader Hunter. Separated from his wife for 20 years Isabella. Isabella left Hunter after their wedding night after feeling betrayed by the man she fell in love with when they were teens. They only stayed married due to an alliance between their families. But when Isabella sends divorce documents to Hunter. He didn’t take it too kindly. So he made a deal with her. Help him fix his reputation and he will sign after one year. He would do anything to keep her, she was still in love with him but couldn’t get over what happened. Does Hunter convince Isabella stay or will he finally set her free? You gotta read it to find out. This book was the perfect way to end the series. Of course there’s people from the other books in it as the MMCs are hunters best friends. It would be better to read the series in order to understand the relationships of everyone mentioned. This book has spice, drama, and of course touch her and …. I love how Hunter has a clear 2 sides of him. One a ruthless, act first ask questions later kinda a man and his boyish charm that only Isabella can see. In the previous books you only get to see Hunters one side. This you get his full personality. And how much he wishes what drove Isabella away never happened.

If you have read all of the Level series so far, you are NOT prepared for how amazing Hunter's story is! I thought I knew how his story would go, I was not. My absolute heart hurt so bad, my emotions have been wrung, and I officially love every broken, unhinged piece of Hunter Devane. I will hands down take him for myself, no questions asked.

Hunter finds himself confronted with divorce papers from his estranged wife of 20 years, Isabella. But, when the reasons for the estrangement are laid bare, OMFG *tears, and lots of them. There was a deep connection to parts of Isabella's character for me, and how life may have been different if I had had a 'Hunter' in my corner (minus the unhinged....maybe). But, because his reputation is under scrutiny he needs to show the other side of who he is, so comes up with a deal for Isabella, and then he will grant her that divorce.

There will be a lot of emotion felt as you read this, when the mask of the Hunter we have known from the other three books is taken down, and the true love of his life Isabella is the only person who can do that. Who truly knows him. I would give more stars to this if it allowed, I loved this book that much. It is a top read for me, and Hunter and Isabella's story is in my heart. It is in the end of this series, and it was perfectly done, and my heart is full. V.R, thank you, this is perfection.

With the fourth and final book of the Level series comes Hunter; a most anticipated as he has played a part in all previous books, and is often times a loose cannon. A hot headed, kn !fe welding mafia leader, who, as he feels, has nothing to lose.

Having met him in previous books, his character has always been intriguing. What was his story? We finally find out. And turns out - the man is married and has been for 20 years.

His estranged wife, Bella seeks out a divorce after all those years. I mean, it was technically a marriage to bring two families together, but with the added benefit that Bella and Hunter did actually love each other. Before it all came crashing down on their wedding night. I can’t imagine the trauma each was faced with following that night.

I loved being able to see a different side to Hunter. Granted, I love his character dynamic (although I really didn’t like him in the Greyson novella) I could seriously picture his face when his friends were giving him crap. Which was often. But, they all knew what to expect from him.

These two clearly never stopped loving one another & Bella was the perfect companion for Hunter. She stood her ground and challenged him in so many ways but also knew that deep down, despite what he portrayed for so long, he was a good man. She was the light he needed all this time.

This is what dreams are made of 😊

When I say that I cried through this entire book that is an understatement. I don't think I'll ever get over this book and as much as I love Damon, Hunter has my heart and I don't know if I'll ever get it back.

VR took a man who is so devoted to his woman and yet you took a tragedy that is so beyond breakable to most and you made two people have a second chance at what they've always wanted and that was love.

The plot itself unravels and ways that you get to see more of who the man he is and you also get to see Side characters from the books before but what is so astounding about this book is the fact that Isabella is so strong-willed and yet Hunter loves her for that and he's willing to give her the Moon and that makes it all worth it.

I love the undeniable compassion that both of these characters have for each other even when they're so torn apart from each other. There are scenes in this book that are worth so much more than itself.
You wrote a man that every girl dreams of and yet you wrote a man that was so broken because of the links he was willing to go for her.

I cannot wait to see what you do next and the redemption in this book I know that the next thing you write will be amazing.

ARC Review of Hunter by V.R. Tennant
* * * * *
A second chance mafia romance with twenty years of woes and longing about to finally unleash!

Bella and Hunter were only to be wed out of duty, but they had fallen in love before the rings had slipped onto their fingers. It is rare. It is wonderful.
What should have been the happiest day of their lives turned into a haunting nightmare, ruined and scarred.
Now, twenty years later, Bella has had enough of waiting around for her life to begin.
However, Hunter is not going to let her go so easily.
He has an offer.
An offer that may or may not give Bella what she desires, because it could also lead to what Hunter wants: her.

This book did not hold back on the drama!
The backstory to this poor couple is quite a bit traumatizing for them, and it is without question as to why their happy ending did not end with them there on that night. Thankfully, we are all open for second chances, and a little bit of bribery.
Hunter's love never wained, his adoration and slight obessession understandably annoying but also super sweet, as they work towards that HEA they deserve.

Hunter is the fourth and final book in the Level Series. It is a contemporary, mafia,
m/f, second chance romance with band of brothers, found family vibes.

Bella is a now a strong and independent woman, who was once used as a pawn by her father. She also struggles with a medical condition that has caused her much strife in life.

Hunter is a man with a deep and dark past. He made an impossible decision many years ago to save his life and, he believed, to save Bella from a hellish future. That one decision ruined their long time love and their marriage.

This is a terrific read that I could not put down. Hunter and Bella are pure electric. I absolutely loved them together. Their journey back to each other is wonderful. It has suspense, intrigue, emotion, steam, and so much more.

The writing, plot, pace, storyline, storytelling, and world building are amazing. The character development and relationship development are incredible and could not have made me love Bella and Hunter more.

I am so sad that this series is over, but I loved every single minute of it and would highly recommend it.

Hunter by VR Tennent is book four in The Level Series. After reading all the other books I was looking forward to finally reading Hunter. Gosh was it such an emotional rollercoaster! How Hunter and Bella started was tough and horrible. I think out of all the men from this series Hunter has to be my favorite. The trauma he’s been though it makes sense that he acts the way he does. But the way he acts around Bella is just perfect; he’s able to show a softer version of himself. I also think that Bella was a perfect counterweight to balance the scales. I definitely enjoyed getting to see all the sides to this man and reading this couple come back together after years apart. I thought the writing was good and there were a few times my emotions were all over the place. I do recommend starting at the first book so you can meet all the different guys and immerse yourself in this world. These books are standalones in an interconnected series. This was a bittersweet read for me as it’s all over. I am looking forward to reading whatever is next from this author. Would absolutely recommend this story if you enjoy mafia and a second chance romance.

WOW…

What beautiful tragic fairytale come true.

In all the mafia books I’ve read, the Don is a Savage, a Vault… Law. To say Hunter is a breath of fresh air for the mafia world, is an understatement. It was beyond refreshing seeing a softer side to a Don. A leader who actually listens to the people he cares about and puts their loved ones first. Admits his wrongs, makes them right and strives to be a better man.

Typically, the Don’s queen is either a badass or meek and mild submissive, however Hunter’s wife, Bella is level headed, thinks logically, genuinely cares for everyone’s well being, doesn’t make it about herself or cause unnecessary drama.

This book had me; Captivated- from their childhood love. Heartbroken- for their wedding night. Hopeful- at the agreement. Relieved- for truth and honesty in the letters and questions asked. Proud- when a mafia don can right his wrongs and show humanity. Elated- when Bella has her dream come true. Devastated- the series came to an end.

Harrison has always been my favorite, but Hunter surpassed it. Out of the Level Series, Hunter is the book you wish you could read for the first time all over.

They marriage was arranged when they were children. Luckily, they had fallen in love, before they were married. Only their father’s ruined their wedding night. Since then, they have been separated. For two decades! But when Hunter receives divorce papers from Bella. He has had enough. He will get her back where she belongs, where she has always belonged. Next to him! He has never stopped loving her. It always been her. So, he will do everything to keep her by his side.
This is the fourth book in The level series. I loved that their love for each other has never wavered. I also love how you really get to see Hunter and how he has had to live his life and become the man he is today. Bella is a strong woman who doesn’t cower to Hunter like everyone else around him. But she is the only one that won’t die too. LOL. She challenges him at everything and he secretly loves it! This is wonderful second chance story! I love we get to catch up with the rest of the characters form The level series too!

So so good! I have read the other novels in this series and loved them. This novel did not disappoint. I love a good mafia romance and this novel checked so many boxes for me. I was so excited to jump back into this series. I was intrigued to finally get the knife throwing Hunter's backstory. From the first chapter this novel reached across the pages and grabbed ahold of my heart and held on tight until the very last page. My heart hurt for Hunter and Bella and what they went thru at the start of their marriage. I loved that they were able to reconnect despite the reasons for it. Their chemistry was so good! I loved watching them both lower their defenses and come back together and rekindle their love. Once I started reading I didn't want to put this novel down, I needed to know what was happening next. So so good! I can hardly wait to see what this author has coming next. I loved this novel!

V.R Tennent has given us a new dark Mafia interconnected standalone romance, set in ‘The Level series’

I knew Hunter would be intense but this book was way more than I expected in the best way. He takes possessiveness to the next level.
When Hunter receives his divorce papers from Isabella ~ It
knocks him off his game and leaves him wanting so much more.

They’ve loved each other since they were teenagers ~ What should of been the start to their own happily ever after came to an abrupt end ~ Their lives were turned upside down.
Isabella walked away & Hunter let her, believing he wasn’t good enough for her. Breaking both of their hearts in the process.

After twenty years their paths cross again more than just sparks fly!
Unbeknownst to Isabella her estranged husband Hunter has been keeping a close watch over her, from the shadows but living in the world they do, danger is never far away. Enemies coming from many different directions & danger closing in.
To save his legacy, Hunter needs Isabella her his side-not just in name, but in every way !

Hunter is an emotional, second-chance romantic suspense story that's absolutely unputdownable. It’s a story of obsession, betrayal, and the kind of love that simmers beneath the surface for decades.

Hunter and Isabella’s story is messy and painful yet beautifully complex. Their relationship isn’t just about romance. It’s about reckoning with the past, confronting trauma, and being able to forgive after twenty long years of distance and unresolved longing. Despite everything, they still share a sizzling chemistry.

Hunter is the kind of brooding, protective and devoted we all crave. Isabella, is strong, resilient, and unapologetically guarded after everything she’s endured.

Their connection is raw, passionate, and tangled in twenty years of secrets, betrayal, and undying loyalty.

I will be open and honest. I am so sad! Why? Because these five men, they are amazing. Bad and good in all the right ways and now it's done!

But let's dive into Hunter and Isabella. I think of all the stories she's done, this was the one I wanted the most. Given that Hunter is the one with the deep pockets, the family to rule, and the one who is already married, I couldn't wait to get their story. And was not disappointed. Isabella is all fire and love that Hunter needs. She just tames him in a way that is needed but let's him figure out how he needs to change or calm down. It's such a perfect balance! And don't even get me started on when they came together after 20 years. Ugh the love between them!

They are the sweetest couple and just insanely in love, even when one doesn't want to admit it. So, don't miss the wrap up of this awesome series.

From the beginning of the series, I have been curious about the story of knife freak Hunter. I didn't think beforehand that Hunter and Bella's love story had such a tragic beginning. I was so angry for them! So terrible that this caused them to drift apart and lose each other. Their path to finding each other again was bumpy but it was so worth it in the end!

The epilogue was really the perfect HEA for all the couples/throuple!

This was the perfect mafia story, there is something for everyone: love, heartbreak, reconciliation, action, suspense and spice! I’m so sad this is the last book of this amazing series! I will miss those unhinged boys and their wives and children!

Hunter by @vrtennentauthor is a perfect conclusion to the Level Series! 🔪❤️

Blurb: A bond that was severed.

While reading all the other books in the Level series, I’ve always wondered about Hunter’s story! He seemed very caring underneath that knife-wielding brutal demeanor. However, once I read his story, it was clear that he has a big heart!

Hunter’s dedication to Isabella is amazing, despite the 20-year separation. And I loved Isabella’s confidence and body-positivity, plus she was an older FMC which is very much appreciated in the romance genre! The plot was PLOTTING and the spice was SPICY as , which is the key to a successful romance novel.

Their love story was beautiful and their journey to being together again was realistic and phenomenally written! Cannot wait to read more of VR’s Tennent’s writing, as it is very addicting. 🥵🔥✨

Thank you to VR Tennent for the opportunity to read/review this ARC! 🤩📚

I loooooved Hunter and Belle’s story so much, what they went through was so sad.

I was waiting to read Hunter story and I had really high hopes, I’m not gonna lie I loved it but that was solely beautiful of Hunter not Belle I did not like her that much.

Hunter has never stopped loving Belle. Now, determined to win back the woman who still holds his heart, he’s ready to do whatever it takes to prove their love deserves a second chance.

The emotional depth in this book is unforgettable — you feel the weight of their shared history, the pain of their past, and the fierce hope that still lingers between them. Belle is a strong and complex heroine, and Hunter’s determination and devotion make him the kind of hero you can’t help but root for.

Hunter: A Level Series Novel is the fourth and final book in The Level Series by VR Tennent. Hunter (MMC) and Isabella (MFC) is a complex rollercoaster story about a second chance romance that started decades ago. For twenty years these two have been dealing with history, traumas and trying to learn how to forgive and to move forward. There chemistry is burning off the pages🔥🔥🔥HOT is not the word for their chemistry.

I loved this story because it has a everything…. drama, secrets, chemistry, action, and devotion for each other. It is a great way to end the series.

Hunter and Bella have a second chance after she sends him divorce papers. Twenty years ago they started their lives as husband and wife but on their wedding night, they were ruined. I loved that he loved her just as much as he always did, that there was no one for him but her. I had an issue about some things but there are my own. However, I was so glad to have characters from the other books in the series. There is action, devotion, betrayal, revenge, reconnection, friendship and more. I am happy they found their HEA and especially happy with how she incorporated guys and their women plus their expanding with children.

Another incredible addition to this amazing series!

My thoughts:
-Hunter and Bella’s story had me in all my feels!
-Bella is a fierce baddie that holds her own… yet is humble and kind
-Hunter is as dark as he is delicious… and the only thing that he loves more than his knife…is his wife…
-Their love story is beautiful and tragic…
-It will break your heart and then put back together… one swoon worthy letter at a time
-I would consider this book a slow burn, but the tension is top notch, and when the spice does hit... they are like fire and gasoline!
-In true Author VR Tennent fashion this story will have you on the edge of your seat!
-But once you read the ending… it’s worth it!
