Her Vicious Beasts #2

Her Rabid Beasts

Rate this book
I escaped my Council-ordered execution by the skin of my beak, only to be faced with an even worse situation. My father, the King of Serpent Court, will try to get to me by any nefarious means possible, including hurting my friends.

Meanwhile, the mere presence of the five mates I’ve rejected torments me at every turn. Savage, the unhinged wolf who now seems besotted with me. Scythe, the mob-boss Great White shark whose icy eyes see right through my skin and Xander, the arrogant, sneering dragon.

Then, there’s the powerful, moody Deputy Headmaster of Animus Academy who has his amber eyes fixed right on me. While he says one thing, his body language tells me something completely different. And then one day, I start to receive cryptic texts from a mysterious stranger who’s past-times include watching me sleep and stalking me.

What’s a girl to do except hand their attitude problems right back to them?

This is the second book in a New Adult MFMMMM 5 book contemporary fantasy romance series that must be read in order. The heroine has five fated mate love interests that will eventually form a bonded group. It is medium burn with 18+ spice starting from book 1. Each book has a cliffhanger ending but the series will finish with a HEA.

Length: 150k
Tropes: Academy, villains get the girl, fated mates, rejected mates, found family, hidden identity, hidden powers, mid-burn, forbidden romance

“If you wish to kill me for what I have done, it would be your right. I would die gladly, having known your gentle touch. I would spend my last heartbeats worshipping you.”

idk how to feel about this series cause i do enjoy the romance, but the pacing is horrendous. nothing really even happens until the end, just like in book one. Savage— my unhinged, lost his marbles, got a few screws loose, down so bad and will do the craziest shit ever just to get her attention.. MY BABY!! i love him, he’s so devoted to Aurelia and has been 100% on her side from the start and he’s actually hilarious. Lyle also accepted the bond, while Scythe and Xander are just as stoic as before, (Scythe a little less than Xander). Ghoul came out of nowhere, but I’m intrigued.. who’s this man? and why was he eating all his page time up like that?! that scene with him, Aurelia, Lyle and Savage while Scythe watched? GIRL 🫠 anyways, i won’t pretend that i fully care about the plot but i’m curious to see what’ll happen next cause i’m side eyeing Xander.

I am having so much fun!! I almost don’t want to keep reading because I don’t want to it to ever end… but I won’t because I also have no self control 🤣

Also the full cast narration on audio is *chef’s kiss*. Immersive reading this has been easily one of my favorite series.

Can’t they just talk to each other??!!
I feel like this was my main thought throughout this book. (I feel like this is my main thought in most books…) I get that it is hard to talk about their feelings but couldn’t they at least have shared some information on their common enemy? That seems logical, right? They did not, though, so this remains my biggest critique.
There is something about this that I do enjoy though. It is quite endearing at times. And it helps that the FMC has a super cute and fluffy emotional support creature. (It might just be the best thing about these books 😂)
It is trashy (in a good way) fantasy romance at its best. I just feel that it was a bit drawn out and that more could have been resolved between them. But I realize now that there is one book per mate. Which, honestly, makes me feel very impatient. We’ll see if I continue the series.

4.25⭐️Sooooo it took me more than a fucking month to finish this book because of unforeseen circumstances with my Spotify premium (I ran out of hours 😂) so I feel like I kinda lost momentum a little bit but this series is my guilty pleasure, I’m honestly having the best time.

Since it took me so long to finish this audiobook I don’t really know how to give a proper review on it. Just know this is 100% a vibes series
the group scenes had me FERAL
I love Savage my crazy baby 🫶🏻💓🤭
and I wanna punch Xander in the face.

That’s all for now.

OH the audiobooks are full cast duet narration and they’re fucking incredible!

So after two books were almost 1100 pages in and still not a damn thing really has happened. This book goes on and on and on about a whole lot of nothing really. We still don’t really even know shit about her own magic.
Unless you count a whole lot of Gen -Z eye-roll worthy crap. This book is basically the bingo card for their current day lingo. you’ll find all their greatest hits currently.
And don’t even get me started on this woman’s mates. Only one out of five is worth anything. All the other mates are either in different hateful, coward or pussies.
There is no relationship building in this book other than with her friends or her fucking Furby. The girl literally has a better relationship with a chicken she has with any of her mates. Her one that loves her she treats like trash, isn’t loving, caring, kind or inquisitive back to him like he is to her. He’s basically her lapdog, which is ironic because he’s a wolf. She just uses him which is so sad because he loves her so much. And then her relationship with the other mates are just bullshit.
This whole book is kind of a waste of my time.

As another reviewer pointed out in their review: If the whole plot falls apart if the characters ever have one specific conversation, then it isn't a plot. I usually hate the miscommunication trope in 90% of the books I read, but I've never had the displeasure of having it go this far. We are 2 books and a novella into this series AND THE CONFLICT COULD HAVE BEEN PLANNED TO BE RESOLVED IF THE FMC AND HER MATES JUST HAD ONE GODDAMN CONVERSATION ABOUT IT. Also all of the mates aside from the wolf (whose name escapes me right now) are crap. They love to spew the "mates don't ever reject each other", but do they make any strides to become friendly with the FMC? Of course not. That would be too rational. It would require too much brain power. Not even this audiobook, being a full cast duet style recording, could make me sit through yet another one of these books. This series ends here for me.

3.5✨ I told myself I’m not giving it over 4 stars if Savage doesn’t get shown more appreciation and I’m nothing if not petty, he deserved better in this idc. Kind of just felt like push and pull with Lia and Lyle and everyone else was just there🧍🏽‍♂️these are definitely entertaining & easy reads so far though

I love this series so much I had to sign up for an ARC so I could see what happens next but the joke is on me because now I have to wait LONGER until the third book!! This one is #2 in the series but really #3 if you count the prequel novella. It’s still RH and this time the focus is a tiny bit more on a different guy even though we get almost everyone’s POV. If you pay attention to the covers it’s not hard to figure out who her next focus is. Anywho we also meet the 5th mate and see a little of him though there are still a ton of questions. That being said we get to know the first four guys a lot better and they get so much character development and dare say show they can care about more than themselves and each other! There is some good female friendship and healthy interactions outside of the mating group which TBH a lot of why choose books I have come across just don’t have which is also a shame. Savage is a hilariously unhinged but head over heels puppy dog but it does not diminish or neuter his morally grey-ness in any way he’s just adorable in his love for Lia and honestly I just want him to smack the others until they come around too but I guess that will all come in due time. Scythe and Xander are still denying their obsession but you can start to see through the cracks and I can’t wait to see how they come apart for her. Lyle, being the focal MMC of this book we learn the most about and get to see him fighting and then falling hard, though he still has a few moments where you want to shake him and ask what is wrong with him but then again his backstory is just as heartbreaking as what we know of the others so far so you can see why he’s wound so tight. Another slight cliffhanger at the end so be prepared to suffer when you are done.

“You, my mate, will never fight alone again. You will never be alone again.”

Loved the follow-up from the first book. I will say I did not expect her fifth mate at all when he came into the picture. I find Ghoul mysterious with so much more to uncover but excited to see how his character comes into play more. I did not expect Savage to be such a softie in this even though he would do anything for the FMC Aurelia. She has him wrapped around her finger. Scythe is so close to cracking I need to see him unravel for her! Xander is a character I can’t wait to see break down over the coming books. Loved the forbidden territory with Lyle and the ending bringing him back to his human form was beautiful. I want to know more about her stomach injuries and how they came about. It felt immature at times and I got lost in some bits of the book but excited for the next one due to how this leaves on a cliffhanger.

I will say it’s a very hostile academy with angry shifter beasts trying to tame and learn how to control themselves and the pull towards their mates. Lots of sexual tension, aggression and trying to be the head of their shifter groups at the academy so we experience, bullying, betrayal, violence and even death. A great read and follow-up from the first book in the series!

Why Choose Dark Romance

TW: bl**d, k!d napp¡ng, dr*gs, pain, hurt, all the angst (in literally every way!?), animal ab*se, SA

I haven’t been this obsessed with a series in a hot minute. Unfortunately the next ones don’t have audiobooks yet and I’m sooo sad about this.
This series has its hooks in me and I will not be waiting for the audiobook(I’m literally so sad about this) because I simply cannot wait for that long.
I will get it on KU and pretend to hear their voices 🥲

Anyway. 10/10 book. Honestly 20/10
The angst. The emotion. This book tore me up.

I’m still mad at certain people for their actions in this book though.(so sorry. I do not forgive as easily as Aurelia)

I honestly don’t think I’ve even processed this yet. I am also struggling not the spoil everything in my explanation
Just know. I loved it so much

I have to sit with this one. I'm mad 😅😂

2.5 ⭐'s rounded down. So, I dropped this series after halfway through book three. I had an idea where the author was going to try and take Ghoul's redemption arc (I was right), but you can't sell me that bullshit.
Ghoul and Xander are irredeemable to me. There is nothing that can be said or done that in any world I'd want Aurelia to forgive those two plebs.
I was in the RH subreddit when the final book was released a few days ago; someone referred to this series as 'torture porn' and I haven't been able to think of a better description for this clusterfuck.
I love me a good, sad, tragic cliffhanger, but if you've been emotionally beating the shit out of the reader the entire time, maybe give them a break?
It was too much. Just, no. Even writing this review I'm getting annoyed because I thought this series had so much potential. A shark shifter? Sounds sick, right? Wrong.
I really don't know if I'll pick up the last three books. The unfortunate thing is I own them, so... yeah 🫤
I'm sure there's people out there who adore this series, but I prefer my bully-arc to not teeter the line of abuse so closely.

Mixed feelings... Needs more work

I loved some parts, annoyed by others.

I might be in the minority but I find Lia TSTL. She's ruled by emotion and instinct. She jumps and thinks of her actions after the fact. Its annoying, it was forgivable the first 2 books, now its just stupid. Girl, learn... think!!! I also found it distasteful when she revealed Lyle's backstory to Minnie. Its not your story to tell, or why would you need to tell it? It was for you to understand your mate better, not to gossip. Sorry for mini rant, I just don't like her character. I find her weak, she cries too much, impulsive, too trusting, too forgiving, and the list goes on. I can only hope she gets better in the next book.

The MMC's are delicious but need more character development. I want more of their back stories, POV... just more. I like them but I don't love them, their just interesting enough to keep me still reading. Probably the only reason I keep reading.

The fried group... I don't get it. They have just learned of each other and yet I'm too believe they are so loyal to each other? Its unbelievable and they just seems stupid to be so trusting. I would understand if they had the history to back up their friendship but we are talking a couple of months here. I would love for them to be the found family group but honestly they just support Aurelia bad ideas and would jump off a cliff with her, so they have no purpose. They are just filler space I could do without.

The bad guys... not scary or interesting. Its just blah.

I just need more. I'm going to read the next book since I've come this far, hopefully, it gets better. But for a series, I have no anticipation for the next book, as a reader, that should tell you enough how I feel about this series so far.

This series so far has been such a fun & wild ride! It’s a slow moving process for all of Aurelia’s men to accept her as their Regina, but I’m having a blast in the meantime. The spice kicked up like 10 notches in this book & I’m not at all mad at it 🔥

*There are eight spicy scenes in Her Rabid Beasts. I’ve included the chapters at the bottom of this review.*

Each book in the series picks up immediately after the last left off, so HRB starts with Aurelia fleeing her father as he comes to collect her after her sentencing. The first few chapters are from Aurelia’s anima’s POV because she’s fully let her take over. Her anima pack nests around her for weeks on end until she’s forced to come out of it when her father attacks Minnie.

HRB delves more into Aurelia’s Boneweaver abilities (although we’ve barely scratched the surface) and her relationship with each of her fated mates. Savage is now completely obsessed with her, Lyle is reluctantly attracted to her & she knows just how to push his buttons to get what she wants 😉, Scythe is still icy but you can tell he is considering, Xander is still an asshole for who knows what reason, and Ghoul.. who the heck knows what this Shadow Daddy is all about.

The way this author incorporates each character’s animus into their human’s personality is simultaneously hilarious and so interesting. I love the little quirks that they each have depending on their orders.

I’ll be honest, I’m still incredibly confused half the time I’m reading this story. Xander’s hatred of Aurelia makes less than zero sense and there is no explanation as to why. In a fated mates situation, shouldn’t the mates be unable to resist each other?! We still have no idea why her men were so adamant about not being with her.. because she’s powerful & they don’t want to be controlled? Or is there more to it? I need answers and definitely intend to continue with this story to get them!

The duet narration with all of the different characters is truly incredible! I cannot imagine consuming this story any other way, so I’ll be (not so patiently) waiting until the rest become available on Hoopla 😭🙏

I wanted so badly to love this book — I really, really did — but I found that the parts of the book that are full of action or have more than a handful of things going on often get kind of confusing. The writing style sometimes left me rereading the same section or just skipping over it out of frustration.

It’s weird because there’s such a solid layer of interesting things happening. There’s a great shell of a storyline, characters we’re finally getting more insight into, and it should have me excited and happy... but I just keep finding it all a bit draggy. More often than not, I’m struggling to really get into the book fully because of that.

Once again, I’m left in a strange spot. The book is okay — I’m not over the moon and devouring it, but I’m not hating it either. I’m just… on the fence. And I’m unsure if I want to keep reading the series or stop here. It’s a very odd place to be.

That said, there were a few shining moments that kept me from throwing in the towel and DNF’ing it. I’m still not sure if I’ll carry on, but I haven’t completely given up. Yet.

Would I recommend it? Nah
Would I read it again? Nope
How would I sum it up? A mix of “maybe” and “meh.”

Continued to enjoy this story a lot. I feel like the way this one ended I am feeling good about what is to come and waiting it out.

Overall we continue to see our heroine make bad choices and try to navigate things, but also in a very necessary way after being forced to live her life under pretty strict rules.

I'll be waiting for the next one.
