This is the first episode of a mysterious, magical, moving and monstrously magnificent tale about a (very very old) young boy and a world which is quite literally half good and half evil. For the boy and for the world EVERYTHING is about to change, and definitely not for the better.
I have decided to publish the first part of the novel, up to the first 'cliff hanger' whilst I am editing the rest, partly as a teaser, but mostly to get some feedback from people other than friends (who obviously all love it!). Stuart C Turton on Facebook for feedback, and further information. Thank you, and I hope you enjoy it.
For the format .. Turton's first novel is excellent .. The Devil in the Dark Water captured my attention straightaway .. This author is very clever .. The Brew also has more than a few typos
This author is a revelation. Not confined to one genre or style, even blending at will. He may find trouble with readers who search out only one type of book. After reading The 7 1/2 deaths and being struck by Agatha Christie/Quantum Leap and filled with dread, I picked up the first chapters of astounding world building of an apocalypse paradise with a darkness in The Last Murder. Now here we have a nasty Fairy Tale in prose. I think I'll be here to soak up every shade he feels like exploring
When I signed up for Kindle Unlimited, this was a recommended book. I have to say that the writing style is kind of refreshing, like experiencing a Charlie Chaplin film but with a fantasy story written in Cliffnotes.
I would have liked to know more on how things progressed, how the characters got to where they were and why. It’s very direct with the “meat” of the story and I don’t find that terrible. I’m actually curious to see what happens next.
I typically love his stuff but I’m frustrated that there wasn’t an ending to this nor does it seem there are more in the series. Kind of feels like a waste to read it.
i didn’t like the format, and it was hard to follow along with the (very short) plot. there were also some typos that were distracting. i think this could be an interesting story, but i did not understand it!
