This book is a great resource for parents and children. It's purpose is to help kids learn to self regulate their emotions. Inside the pages are suggestions for kids to help them calm down, like walking outside, meditation, or time alone. The book always encourages kids to seek help from an adult, which I think is very important.
What I like about this book is that the message is laid out, you get it a few times, and it feels like it is really meant to be a meditation that sinks in. Well done!!
The book has a nice rhythm to it, the illustrations are adorable, and most importantly the book is packed from cover to cover with great ideas for helping kids—and adults!—get regulated. I wish I had been taught these things when I was a kid, but I’m sure glad books like this exist so I can teach my 6 year old daughter.
I’ve reviewed several kids’ books that use rhyming. Many struggle with the cadence. This book has a nice and breezy flow to the rhymes and it feels natural. The message is a good one, too, with lots of tips for kids to help control their emotions.
What a beautiful book that takes us on a journey with Kate and her three friends as they learn to regulate their emotions. This is really dual-purposed. It teaches parents how to help their kids deal with negative emotions. At the same time…it is a fun book for kids. They are entertained while their parent learn.
The primary purpose is to teach a number of things kids can do to overcome negative emotions like fear, anger, anxiety…or even emotions they don’t understand. The alphabet format works perfectly…as it is integrated very well into the flow of the story. The pictures are perfect. I highly recommend this one for any parents with small children.
Wonderful A to Z guide for regulation tips for kids!
Regulating emotions is important for everyone, but especially with neurodivergent kids. My husband and I are looking to adopt a child and kids who have had trauma especially need help with regulation. I think this will be a fantastic book for our situation as well as many other people who have kids that would need extra help with this. It is written in a fun way For kids and the illustrations go well with it. I would definitely recommend this book for other parents to share with their kids.
My kids and I really enjoyed this book. I got the book to help my boys regulate their emotions better. We need more books like this that are fun and engaging and educational. We learned a few new things too, we loved the beautiful illustrations too. The rhyming in the story and creative use of A - Z is memorable. We aren’t big on digital but I’ll definitely hold onto it in my digital library to read it to my kids. We wanted to buy a paper copy but it’s a bit out of budget at the moment. Highly recommend this book!
This book is awesome. It would be a great book to add to all elementary schools- a great teaching tool to help children learn to regulate their emotions. I had a secret place to regulate as a young child, at the top shelf in my big closet (with a blanket, snack, and whatever else suited me at the time). We all have to stay tuned into our emotions and regulate them daily.
Excellent, kind, sweet book with beautiful illustrations
I am so impressed by this sweet little book to help children when they are feeling out of control. I think all elementary schools should have it in their bookshelf! Not only for those with autism, ADHD, etc. Some kids are just having a bad day and all this advice would be great for them too. The best part is that it is told in a rhyme for children to enjoy and not feel preached at. Bravo!
helpful and cute book for teaching kids regulation
I like how this book follows 4 different kids (not just Kate!) and they each show a different way of regulating. Most of the pages also have a note for the adult on the particular type of therapy that’s being talked. The whole story is written in a cute rhyme that makes it easy to get in the grooved, but the language is perfect for a 5-10 year old without talking down to them. I’d recommend!
Perhaps it is due to our world becoming hyper-stimulated, but this type of content is becoming more and more needed—and desperately so. As an adult I think this book is also good for adults, too. And, I think this is brilliantly designed for kids too, perhaps best to be used with the help of an adult until the child gets a handle on it for themselves. I genuinely recommend this resource.
Regulate With Kate is an enlightening, rhyming guide that could truly help children and families heal the nervous system and reset core belief systems that can become lifelong weights 'around our necks'.
One of the things I loved about this book is that it encourages children to be responsible for and with their own emotions and bodies while also encouraging children to trust appropriate adults in their lives.
Niso Cohen does a beautiful job leading a healthy path to vital practices and self-awareness.
What a wholesome book for kids to take charge and control how they react to how they feel, to practice mindfulness, be calm and work on their response to their mood.
They use the alphabet to take actions, meditate, plan out their activities, reflect on their feelings, write down stuff and more. This is a teacher in a book, self discipline.
This book was very well written. It is easy for kids to understand. I also appreciated the footnotes for parents as they help to understand even more how the self regulation techniques are affecting our children’s minds. This should be in every therapist tool box for recommending to patients and parents
Very effective book for helping children learn how to regulate all their emotions. It gently explains so much information in easy to follow rhymes. Great for children and a wonderful tool for parents. I also enjoyed the helpful tips in the back of the book to help parents identify their children’s different moods and emotions.
A great resource for kids on how to regulate their emotions. I can tell a lot of science went into creating this book - but also done in a way to make it engaging for kids. This is a great educational resource and could honestly be helpful for any age. Well done!
I have a five year old child on the spectrum. The words are a bit big for him, but the fabulous illustrations make up for this. As his mother, it helps me know how to help him self-regulate, and become aware of his own feelings and express them in a judgment free space. I love the different ways that he (and I) can regulate those emotions. Great Job!
This is a lovely book helping children to regulate their emotions, as an adult it was a helpful resource for me too. I would say this book is best for children 6+. Lovely illustrations and fun rhymes.
A Helpful story for kids to learn and recognize there emotions and how to regulate their feelings. Beautiful illustration. A good read for young readers .
Bought this for my niece! Absolutely loved the book and the illustrations! Lots of great vocabulary words that were new for her, and she was able to understand the moral of the story when we talked about it. Highly recommend
This is a special book for children who are in the stage of self-discovery, exploring how they feel and what they should do. It not only teaches children but also parents, offering techniques to identify moods and emotions. It's a book full of valuable lessons.
