Just finished:
"Ronald Reagan and the Firing of the Air Traffic Controllers"

A small book with a powerful punch. Reinforced my view that the leaders of PATCO asked for too much and assumed that they would be able to strike in order to give it. Reagan said he agreed with things that the union wanted but Union leaders read between the lines of Reagan's letter. Reagan argued that the strike was illegal because the union had it in their contract that they couldn't strike and they were holding the public reliant on air travel hostage. As a result, if they didn't return to work within 48 hours, they would forfeit their jobs.
Reagan was able to effectively break the strike because other unions didn't come to the aid of PATCO (especially the pilots union), the press was against the strike, few lawmakers supported the strike, and the public overwhelming supported the president's actions, only disagreeing with Reagan over barring former air traffic controllers from getting rehired of they went on strike.
Really relies on Joseph McCartin's book, which I recommend. I liked this book too.
