Love Trippin' #4

Resorting to Romance

Rate this book
My plate is full enough being a single mom and business owner. I don’t have time to date, not even to fake it.

I’m the only child to three “fairy godmothers.” Yes. You heard me right. My somewhat-crazy, definitely over-the-top aunts all raised me. And now, I’m running the bed and breakfast I inherited from my grandmother, while I raise my seven-year-old son, Noah, single-handedly.

I probably hold the island records for “most likely to turn down a date,” and “least likely to take a day off.” So when Kai Kapule, the manager of the resort’s water sports rentals steps in, pretending to be my boyfriend, I’m quite sure my jaw drops alongside everyone else's

It’s not the first time Kai’s come to my rescue. But, usually he’s doing things like fixing a leaky faucet or repairing a loose floorboard, not … declaring his status as my boyfriend.

With my ex, Noah’s dad, back on the island, I honestly need an extra layer of insulation against any misguided thoughts he might have of the two of us ever getting back together. What can it hurt to let Kai play the role of doting boyfriend? We both know it’s not real.

Kai’s just pitching in, being his usual protective, charming self.

The trouble comes when we have to act on Kai’s declaration just to keep up appearances. What started as a seemingly harmless declaration is quickly turning into a complicated charade. How long can I resist Kai’s warm caramel gaze, the caring tone in his voice, or the way my body reacts when he innocently touches me? And when he takes care of my son, Noah, I’m basically a goner.

The I can’t date Kai Kapule. And the longer we pretend we’re more than friends, the more it’s going to hurt when I have to let him go.

Resorting to Romance is a small-town, friends-to-lovers, fake relationship romantic comedy that will have you laughing out loud, tearing up, and wanting to pack your bags to relocate to Marbella Island.

This closed-door romance has kisses that will melt your flip flops. Resorting to Romance is book four in the Love Trippin’ Series, but it can be read as a stand-alone read.

Book Review: Resorting to Romance by Savannah Scott - 5 Stars

WOW - This is now my favorite book from the Love Trippin' Series! Kai & Mila & Noah have stolen my WHOLE HEART! I absolutely loved this book and highly recommend you check it out!

While this is book 4 in the Love Trippin' series, it can be read as a standalone.

🌊Small Town Island Vibes
🌊Single Mom
🌊Friends to Lovers
🌊Fake Dating
🌊Heartfelt Story
🌊Sweet Clean Romance
🌊He Loves Her Son
🌊She Owns An Inn
🌊Fun Aunties
🌊Laugh out Loud Moments
We follow Kai and Mila in this book. Kai is a surf instructor and Mila owns an Inn called "Mila's Place". Mila is a single Mom with her precious 7 year old son, Noah. Her ex-husband Brad left the minute he found out she was pregnant so she has been raising Noah by herself all this time. Kai and Mila have been friends for a while, so when Mila's ex-husband comes back in town, regretting his decision to leave her and Noah so long ago, Kai steps in and says he's Mila's boyfriend and the fake dating begins. As usual with a good fake dating story, we see real feeling develop over time in this sweet, slow burn romance.

I LOVED seeing Kai and Mila's romance develop and the added layer of Kai being a father figure to Noah was CHEF'S KISS! The "single parent trope who finds love again" is one of my favorite tropes in romance stories and this one was PERFECTION. Everything about it was my favorite.

DID I TEAR UP IN THE END?! YES! I loved how Savannah wrote this story because I was so connected to our characters.

If you're looking for the perfect summer read right now, THIS IS IT! Resorting to Romance is out in the world and ready to read TODAY! Happy Release Day! Thank you to the author for providing a copy to honestly read and review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

You guys! Mila and Kai are the definition of fake dating goodness. Add in small island town, single mom, friends to more vibes and it makes for a truly swoony, totally heartfelt, super fun, and completely bingeable read. Deep themes are woven in with laugh out loud moments seamlessly and beautifully.

Things I Loved:
-Mutt 😂
-“Note to self: stop hosting barbecues.”
-Ben 🤣
-Post-traumatic-zipper-disorder
-Rules
-“Chloe continues her campaign. It’s like Kai for President, only it’s Kai for the most eligible bachelor in your life.”
-“That’s really the way I like to do life—non-confrontational and agreeable, with a side of baked goods.”
-Superhero
-Hot Dog
-Pantry time
-“‘May I join you?’ ‘I should hope so. I’m frazzled, but not two-bowls-to-myself frazzled.’ ‘That’s good. I’m glad you’re at one-bowl status. We can work with that.’”
-A solid wall of unified post-kiss coupledom
-“You’re the child I never had. The daughter of my heart. I always figured God gives us people to fill in the blank spots. I like to think we’ve done that for one another.”
-“You see, Kai. Women are like a gardens.”
-Mister Miyagi
-Spanx
-Practice 🫠
-Sea Star
-Letter
-That epilogue ♥️

I just love this one. I teared up multiple times, but laughed so much too, it’s so good. Kai is so good. All the people in Mila and Noah’s lives are so good. Ben is the best. Kai and the mutt. All of it. Just read it! 😂🫶🏻

Trigger Warning: (Past, off page) Divorce and child abandonment by one parent, and loss of parents. (Present) Dealing with the return of the ex/estranged parent. Handled with care and beautifully done, maintains a romcom feel overall.

Resorting to Romance is book four in the Love Trippin' series. While you'll definitely see some familiar characters and might get a better understanding of their friendship dynamics if you've read the previous books, this could definitely be enjoyed as a standalone as well.

Oh my goodness... I am absolutely obsessed with this book. Kai and Mila were the absolute sweetest together. Fake dating is one of my favorites, so naturally I was drawn to that aspect of the story... but the way it all comes about felt unique to the many I have read before it. These two just have a really effortless way about them that I couldn't help but absolutely love... and that practice kiss!? My goodness, the chemistry was flying off the pages! I loved Kai's steadiness and the way he cared not just for Mila, but for her son too. It really was such a sweet relationship between Kai and Noah, and I enjoyed every moment between the two of them too. It was definitely a slower burn... but so perfect (and so worth it) for these two. While this one wasn't quite as much of an emotional roller coaster as the previous book in the series, this once again felt like the perfect balance of those tender, heartfelt moments and the laugh out loud ones. It took on the tough topic of parental abandonment and reentry, but those humorous moments kept it from feeling too heavy. I loved seeing Ben's character again and felt his antics really added some lightness to the story too! This is definitely a summer must read!

Resorting to Romance is a closed-door romance with chemistry filled kisses, but nothing more and no language.

**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.

This book gave me ALL the feels! I laughed, I cried, and I am pretty sure I had a sappy smile on my face through most of this book. Fake dating can go either way for me, but Savannah Scott did a superb job of creating a scenario where it made sense. It also gave Kai and Mila the nudge they needed to see each other as more than just friends. Kai is fiercely protective and loyal. As a single mom, Mila takes care of her son and also everyone around her. Together, the two are so lovable in this slow burn story. I loved returning to Marbella Island and getting a chance to revisit old friends from previous books in the series. I also enjoyed Mila's support system - her aunts (or "fairy godmothers"), son Noah, and her bestie, Chloe. Resorting to Romance is my new favorite of this series!

How does she do it? How does Savannah Scott make each book every bit as good as the previous ones? And the quotes I took from this? Goodness, they could form a book of their own!

This is a SLOOOOOOWWWWWW burn romance. In fact, with only a few chapters left, I wasn't 100% sure how it was gonna end. I mean, I knew how it was gonna end, but I didn't know HOW it was gonna end that way. You know?

I loved everything about this book. The slow burn, the protector, the single mom (and that is never my favorite), the fake dating. It's just a fabulous book. Of course Ben is in it, and he's always hilarious! And Kai's relationship with Shaka? Cracked. Me. UP.

Do yourself a solid and grab this one.

Favorite Quotes:
😍 I'm as pro-woman as the next gal. But I'm not going to lie. A man who gets feral when he sees me struggling and in need of support? That might just be my kryptonite.

🔥 Whew. It's been a long, long time since I've been this close to a shirtless man who wasn't on a beach at a decent distance from me. That's what this is. A case of overexposure, plain and simple. I clear my throat. "Mila? What are you doing here? Are you okay?" I was, until you answered the door like that.

💍 Kai beams at my son. It's the kind of smile that isn't for me at all. As a matter of fact, I think I could slip into the inn and neither of them would notice. I look over at Chloe. She's clutching her hand over her heart and mouthing, "Put a ring on that."

💋 Would he kiss me? Of course he would. He'd kiss me fully on the mouth. He'd pour all that quiet intensity into a kiss I'd been waiting for probably longer than I'd allowed myself to admit it. Knowing Kai, he' d be respectful at first, as he always is.
Careful. Gentle. Attentive. But then, he'd take charge with that possessive side, the part of him that is all man. He'd hold me up, as he always does, and lean in. And once he got a solid sign that I wanted him, he'd pour all the physicality he uses on the water, all the tenderness he shows when he's looking out for me, and possibly the desire I imagine I see flickering in his eyes on occasion into our kiss. It would be a kiss I’d never forget.

😂 Finally, Bodhi looks at Kalaine. "Did you understand any of that?" "My brother's in love," she answers him. "Obviously." Bodhi chuckles lightly. "But he may also need emergency medical attention."

❤️ "It's going to be okay," he murmurs into my hair. "And I'll be here for all of it."

😏 "Sorry, I panicked ..." I try to make sense of my actions to Kai, but honestly, I can't even make sense of them to myself yet. "You ... panicked?" Amusement fills Kai's features. I nod. "And when you panic, you kiss people in public?"

🥰 What we have is real. And when you find something real, you risk everything for it. You toss out your shoulds, and your rules, and your expectations, and you jump in headlong. Because when it's real, you can leap, knowing someone will always be there to catch you.

'She's not mine. She's not mine. Maybe if I repeat it enough, I'll remember.'

Nope, Kai. Not even then lol.

This is one fantastic forced proximity, fake dating ("do they know, that we know, that they know that we know?!" -its seriously so good!) and swoony to the max. Kai is a protective MCC and Mila while she's tough and can take care of herself...she's also got Kai's number on speed dial.

This is definitely a romcom, but it's also a romcom that is going to tug at the heart strings in the best way possible.

If you're looking for a summery beach read, a great single parent trope, and a swoony romance...you can't go wrong with this one!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Content: abandonment/estranged parent, minimal innuendo, romance-kisses only.

Loved!!!! I’ve only read 2 of the books so far in this series but I think this one is my favorite!!! I love fake dating tropes and add a protective MMC in there and you’ve got a hit for me. The writing style of Savannah Scott is sooo good. It’s so real and heartfelt. I loved every bit of this book. I finished it in one day! You can read this one as a stand-alone but I do think reading at least Catch a Wave before this adds to the story of this one

😭🥰🫠 THE SWEETEST FAKE DATE THAT EVER FAKE DATED!

Sometimes a book makes you just giggle and wiggle your toes because it’s so sweet. I love those books and this is one of them.

I loved so much about this book: returning to Marbella, seeing all the characters again, the meddling auntie crew, the dog, Ben’s antics, so much. Probably my favorite element is the careful way she deals with estranged family and reunification. Parenthood is HARD. It’s so fun, but knowing what to say or do and when to say or do it can feel like guess work. I loved how Mila relied on her community and a sense of grace and compassion for her child to navigate those waters. Kai and Mila are just so good and so full of integrity (even if they are tricking everyone by fake dating 🫢). They are also both just goofy enough to be absolutely hysterical. When Mila said “I’m having cookie therapy” I felt that, honey! I FELT IT!

Woohoo!!! I am loving this series sooo much!!! And I can't tell you how excited I was when I found out that this 4th book was going to be Kai and Mila's story! Like happy dancing and squealing excited! Ok, I probably didn't do a happy dance for real but inside I was! Haha! I loved the little teasers we'd get about these two in the previous books and let me tell you, this story melted my heart so much. Like puddle of melted happiness!!! Kai and Mila are the most adorable couple! Add in Noah and his interactions with Kai and it's more than just cuteness overload! It's Sweet Romance story overload! All in a good way of course!!!

I've loved all of the books in this series so far (Ok, I haven't read the first book yet but I need to do so really soon!) but this one seriously takes the cake! I honestly couldn't read it fast enough! I read a few pages of it last night but was so tired that I fell asleep. But as soon as I woke up, I got ready and knew I was going to have a great morning enjoying this beauty! Today was my one morning in forever that I had some down time and oh boy did I use it wisely! I grabbed my Dr. Pepper Zero with Coconut Cream, put on my bathing suit and went outside and enjoyed a beautiful morning soaking up the rays with the Romance! Seriously best way to enjoy this book because trust me when I tell you that while you are reading it, you're going to be dreaming of warm weather and lots of sunshine!

I can't get over how adorable these two are! And they say they're just "friends!" Ha! I don't buy it one moment Kai and Mila! You two just need to see past all of your reservations and be honest with yourselves and with each other. And fake dating! Oh heavens! Just call it what it is...you're really dating and love each other!

Seriously go read this one as soon as you can and just bask in the cuteness and perfection of it all!!!

Content: Clean. The author gives a trigger warning at the beginning of the book letting readers know that this book deals with a single parent/mom raising a son but her ex wants to come back into the picture and be in the son's life. I thought that it was written very well and was very sensitive and thoughtful for readers who might have or might be experiencing that in their lives. There is no language. There are several kisses that are fantastic but not pushing any boundaries for keeping this book clean. I love that I know I can always count on this author to deliver clean and wholesome romance for me to enjoy and that I can share with my teenagers or others without worrying about content! Thank you a million times Savannah Scott!!!

After reading each book in this series, I think there is no way Savannah Scott can top herself. Well, she proved me wrong once again. I love this book so much!

It’s a fun and romantic story, but with a lot of depth and tenderness—my favorite combination. It was sweet, funny, heartwarming, and an absolute pleasure to read.

Mila and Kai have been close friends for years. He’s always been there to help this sweet single mom and her adorable son, Noah.

When Mila’s ex comes back to the island,
with possible thoughts of them reconciling, Kai comes to the rescue once again by declaring that he’s her boyfriend.

What begins as a seemingly harmless fabrication, quickly becomes more complicated. And as they pretend to date, they realize the deeper feelings they’ve always had for each other, feelings that can no longer be denied or ignored.

What I loved:
Friends to lovers
Protective MMC
Sweet and strong FMC
He falls first
Kai’s jealous moments
Tangle intensity between Kai and Mila
How Kai treats Noah
Meddling aunts
Shaka 🐶
Kissing in the rain
Dual POV
Sweet HEA

I loved this story from beginning to end. The romance between Mila and Kai had me swooning and smiling like a loon. This also had such fabulous secondary characters that added so much to the story, especially Ben. I just love that guy!

If you’re looking for a sweet romance and a fun summer read, I can’t recommend this one highly enough.

This is book 4 in the Love Trippin’ series and can be read as a standalone, but do yourself a favor and read the first three books if you haven’t already. They’re all fantastic.

Many thanks to the author for a gifted copy!

OVERALL STAR RATING: 6/5
CLEAN RATING: 5/5

I adore every book in this series, but I really think this one is my favorite. I wish I could live on Marbella Island. Small-town beach vibes – an island where cars aren’t even allowed, and everyone bikes or uses golf carts!? Yes please!

This is a gorgeous friends-to-lovers, fake dating story. Mila is a single mom running a bed and breakfast on Marbella. Her son Noah is going to steal your heart. Mila’s husband walked out on her when she was pregnant. She’s spent years healing from having been abandoned. She’s stunned when her ex shows up informing her that he wants back in their lives. Mila’s friend, Kai, immediately jumps in to protect her and pretends to be her boyfriend. She’s been 100% dedicated to staying single to focus fully on her son, but the fake dating that ensues complicates feelings towards Kai that have been brewing in her heart for a while. They truly are the best of friends, but she’s terrified of allowing it to become more.

I want to say that Savannah really tackled the divorce topic beautifully. Mila’s ex, Brad, absolutely did her wrong, but Mila doesn’t at all act malicious. She never once trash talks Brad or tries to beat him down. The entire situation is held in such a respectable and mature manner.

I have a random list of words that still make me giggle thinking back on this story – SNICKERDOODLES, HOT DOG, FERTILIZER, “WEE LITTLE COO”, SPANX, SEA STAR. Don’t you want to pick this one up to find out their meaning? ;)

“Love is a friendship that has caught fire.”

Listen! If you only pick up one summer book this year… let it be this one. This amazing book is romcom perfection with so much heartfelt swoon. It’s the kind of book that takes up residence in your heart and stays there. I won’t be moving on from Kai and Mila anytime soon.

Mila is a single mom who runs a bed and breakfast on Marbella island. Kai is former pro surfer and manager of the island’s watersports rentals. The two have a long standing close friendship. Kai is often showing up to aid Mila and her son Noah. But romance has never been in the table. Mila doesn’t do men. Not since her ex-husband walked out on her and her unborn child. But when her ex is suddenly back, romance (the fake kind) is exactly what is needed as a buffer. Except you can’t fake date a man like Kai without catching real feelings that leave you questioning the lines you’ve always had. Even if you’d made a rule. And Kai is equally smitten. It’s truly delicious!

I recommend this gooey cookie of a love story to everyone who enjoys closed door romcom with strong characters and fake dating!!

Heat- Kisses that will melt your flip flops (no spice)
CW- martial abandonment/ divorce, no swearing

Savannah’s best story yet!!

Oh. My. Word. This beautiful story is going to live in my head for weeks! Years maybe! Ah! The depth of the characters? The ebb and flow of feelings? The dawning of love? THE IT’S-OBVIOUS-TO-EVERYONE-BUT-THESE-SILLY-GEESE!?! 😭🥹🫠🤦‍♀️🤣

Ok. Quick takes:

🏄‍♂️ Adult friends to lovers
🌭 Nicknames 🥰🤣
🏄‍♂️ Single mom, ADORABLY realistic kid
🌭 FOUND FAMILY
🏄‍♂️ FAKE DATING
🌭 the Scottish traveler references 🤣🤣🤣 that whole scene was amazing.
🏄‍♂️ The Protector MMC ™️

Gah, I was tearing up and sobbing at the end. It was BEAUTIFUL storytelling. The brokenness, the healing, the love story— and can I just say, the perfect edge Mila walks of being both Strong Heroine and vulnerable? How Kai makes her feel safe and protected without being over bearing or doing more than needed? 👩‍🍳 💋

Honestly, y’all. Savannah knocked it out of the park. It’s a home run. I would give it infinite stars if I could.

I just loved this book so much!! There were so many good quotes that I highlighted on my kindle throughout relating to being a mom and seeing our children grow up and eventually leave us. This book follows Kai, Kalaine’s brother, we first get a lil bit of him and Mila in Catch A Wave. I just love the friendship Kai and Mila had and how he was there for her whenever she needed him! Loved the fake dating it’s my favorite trope and seeing them slowly fall for each other!! That kiss when they are huddled in a little hut trying shield themselves from the rain was so good! I also loved the way Mila took charge on their very first real kiss! Oh and Kai teaching Noah how to surf and their bond was just so adorable! Another amazing summer read from Savannah Scott! I’ll be anxiously awaiting the next book in the series!!

I love Savannah Scott but this is the second one that I feel was just okay for me. Maybe I’m just not reading them at the right time, sometimes I swear timing is everything for books. I love the main characters in this book and the little boy too. I guess what I didn’t love was the whole dad re-entry thing. It was a big piece of the story but she should have told him to get lost, honestly. A fun setting and a super cute couple though.

"I'm not in love," I clarify.
"Yet. Maybe. I'm guessing you might be and you haven't given yourself the memo yet. Just don't hold back. When you find a woman like Mila and she's into you, you go for it. Don't waste this opportunity."

"In romance, people fake date all the time."
"They do?"
"They do. It's a thing. Anyway, the key to pulling off a fake romance is having rules."
"Rules."

"Practice? We don't need practice. We're naturals. If this were the world championships of kiss- ing, we'd get the gold, and we're only just getting started."

I absolutely loved this one! Such a sweet and fun friends to lovers, fake dating, single mom romance with the perfect mix of tension and tenderness. Mila and Kai were wonderful together, I loved their foundation of friendship and trust and how naturally the relationship grew and snuck up on them. And the supporting characters of an entire island of family and friends excited about their supposed relationship and up in their business was hilarious. I also really appreciated that while there were some conflicting emotions and confusion involved, they both dealt with them with people they trusted as things progressed rather than a big, angsty miscommunication/break-up before the conclusion.

Read if you love:
🔆 He falls first
🔆 Single mom FMC
🔆 Protective MMC
🔆 Fake dating
🔆 Nosy island small-town
🔆 Friends to lovers
🔆 They make rules and break them
🔆 Low angst

Resorting to Romance
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Author: Savannah Scott

I requested a digital advanced readers copy from Savannah Scott and providing my opinion voluntarily and unbiased.

Synopsis: I’m the only child to three “fairy godmothers.” Yes.

My Thoughts: This is the fourth book in the Love Trippin’ Series, but can absolutely be read as a standalone book. This book was everything I hoped it would be and more. I have followed Scott for awhile now and have read the last series and this series and she continues to elevate her storytelling abilities each book with compassionate kissing scenes, Easter egg surprises within the plot, and a HEA that will make your heart swoon so much. Mila’s parents died unexpectedly when she was young and was raised by her 3 aunts. When she got pregnant unexpectedly in her marriage, her husband, who did not want kids, divorced her. She raised Noah on her own while running the bed and breakfast. When Noah’s dad shows up unexpectedly wanting to be part of his life, Kai was at the inn fixing a pipe, and stepped in as the boyfriend. They enter into a fake relationship to keep Noah’s father at bay, a simple act turns complicated quick. Will they admit they have been pining after one another for a while? Will this blow up in their faces? This follows the tropes of closed door romance, small town romance, friends to lovers, and fake relationship.

The story is narrated by our protagonist heroine, Mila, and our swoony hero, Kai, in their respective perspectives. Doing the dual perspective on this one really worked,. I love it when I can read both sides, especially the internal dialogue, it was fantastic. Mila is fiercely independent, strong, beautiful, and compassionate. She will also do anything for her son, Noah, even sacrificing her own heart. Kai is charming, kind, swoony, and the perfect book boyfriend. The characters were created with depth, witty banter, chemistry, and intriguing. The supporting characters and returning characters add an element to the story that really elevates it. Especially Ben, he is so funny and charismatic. The author’s writing style is complex, closed door, clean, beautiful, and brilliant.

This was a sweet, heartwarming romcom that had me on a rollercoaster of emotions from happiness, sadness, screaming to the characters, and tears of joy at the end. Scott is a masterful storyteller with the ability to turn an ordinary kiss into a beautiful, endearing steamy scene that will make you swoon to the moon. I fell in love with her stories since Friendshipped and so grateful to be part of her ARC team to review these beautiful stories that sing to my heart every single time. This book is available on KU and for purchase on Amazon, some libraries may carry it as well. I HIGHLY recommend this book and every book in this series, especially the first one. For me it is a tie between this one and the first one for the one I like the best from the series. Go Get It Right Now!!!!! ❤️

Oh my goodness!!! I am gushing over this book! I honestly think this is my favorite in the Love Trippin series. Savannah Scott’s writing in this book is beyond perfect. I felt so emotions reading this story.

Mila and Kai have the sweetest friendship turned to more. They are both extremely caring people, and their chemistry and ease with each other is undeniable. Mila is such an inspiration of hard work and determination running her business while raising her son, Noah. I loved how Kai described himself as “more of a still waters run deep guy. No ripples. No waves. Steady, calm, reliable.” And later, “boring.” But that is exactly the kind of man Mila realizes she wants in her life. Kai also shows up for her son, Noah, time and time again. He is so protective and loyal to the people he cares about and will do anything to take care of them. I love these two! Their romance is slow burn perfection!!!! I also loved the fake dating aspect, and the way this was written and played out was so unique from other fake dating tropes I’ve read before. The love Mila and Kai have for each other is so natural!

The side characters are also what makes this book so special: Mila’s three fairy godmother aunts, Bodhi and Kalaine, BEN, and Mila’s best friend, Chloe. I loved getting more Ben in this book! And Chloe is the ultimate best friend! I think everyone needs a Chloe in their life!

4.5⭐️ this was such an adorable, light hearted, fun, summer read. I just loved Mila and Kai. The way Kai cared for Mila and her son was the sweetest. The friends, aunts, all the side characters were great. Loved the banter, not only between the main characters, but also with all the side characters.

I absolutely loved this wonderful story from start to finish! The way Kai stepped in to stand as a layer of emotional protection for Mila when she unexpectedly had to face her ex-husband was a perfect way to jump start a fake relationship between two people who cared so much for each other.

Mila had simply not been available for more than friendship for the four years that Kai had known her. She wasn’t willing to open herself or her son up for being crushed again, as she was when her husband left her when she was pregnant. I loved that Kai became her friend and that their friendship was so special to both of them.

The way Kai loved her son, Noah, and had known him since Noah was three years old gave them such a sweet relationship. Noah truly loved Kai, too, and it made my heart happy the way Kai was there for Noah every single time he needed him.

The way the relationship between Kai and Mila began opening up into a romantic attraction was so well paced. This novel was a wonderful combination of slow burn and gentle awakening of love, but also such a sweet acknowledgment of feelings that were changing, as both Mila and Kai struggled within themselves with how their feelings had grown.

This is the fourth book in the Love Trippin’ series. You can jump right in and enjoy reading this story even if you haven’t read the other books. I loved this beautiful story from start to finish, including the fantastic epilogue, and can easily say it is one of my favorite books that I have read this year.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Absolutely loved it! Savannah Scott writes the best rom-coms that are full of joy, heart, tender and funny moments. I always look forward to her books!

Mila is a single mom to Noah and a business owner of an inn on Marbella Island. Her life is pretty busy and she is not looking for romance. Kai is a good friend who looks out for and helps her make repairs to the inn when needed. When Mila’s ex-husband shows up 7 years later looking to reestablish a relationship with her son, Mila is thrown for a loop. Thankfully Kai steps in and says he is her boyfriend. The two decide the best thing to do is fake a relationship to keep her ex at bay and give Mila time to work through the situation. Little did they know that some of these fake feelings would start to turn real; but since Mila isn’t looking for a relationship it seems this could only lead to heartbreak.

Marbella Island is beginning to feel like a second home to me and I loved getting to revisit it for Kai and Mila’s story. Kai is a kind, attractive, good guy. There was something special about him that I fell in love with. He was such a good friend to Mila and so wonderful with her son Noah. Everytime Kai and Noah were on page together my heart melted. I loved the friendship Kai and Mila had and how they always looked out for one another. I loved how they teased each other, laughed together and how comfortable they were with one another. As their feelings began to change from friendship to more I began to adore the sweet glances towards each other, the fun flirting, and then that amazing kiss in the rain. This story made me smile and also laugh out loud. If you have read the other books in the series then you know Ben and if this is your first time to Marbella Island then you are in for a real treat. It is not typical that I laugh out loud reading but Ben's scenes in this book had me doing that so many times.
This is the perfect beach read. I highly recommend this book and also recommend you read the entire Love Trippin series. It is one of my favorites.

Things I loved:
Gilmore Girls vibes
Single mom
Fake dating
He falls first
Substitute snake charmer
Post traumatic zipper disorder
Three fairy godmothers
Fertilize the garden
The Pantry
That kiss in the rain
The making and breaking of the rules
Kai’s relationship with Noah
The sweet ending

This was such a cute romance! I loved how Kai and Mila grow from friends to lovers.
While this is a fake dating story, I think it’s also friends to lovers because Mil and Kai are without a doubt friends first. They know each other and they genuinely like each other before they start dating. While the romance itself is fast, it made so much sense for these characters. They had already liked each other, but the fake dating helped them realize their feelings.
I loved Mila’s strength and her kindness. It was interesting to see how settled she was in herself in some ways while still struggling. She had been alone in some ways for so long, and it was hard for her to trust Kai and open herself up. At the same time, she was much more confident in where she is at life than some other characters we’ve seen. Kai and Mila are both a little older than Ben, Riley, and Cam, so that was a fun change too.
I loved Kai from the start! I liked him from Bohdi and Mavs book, and he did not disappoint. He’s just such a sweetheart who wants to help Mila so badly. He hasn’t even admitted to himself how much he likes her, but he’s always been there for her. I love how this book does not romantize romance too much. Mila and Kai both understand the difference between liking someone and being willing to be there for them everyday.
I would totally recommend this romcom! It is a closed door read with fake dating, small island vibes, and a single mom. Noah, Mila’s son, is a big part of the book, and his comments and relationship with Kai feel very natural. This is part of a series, but it can be read stand alone.
Content warnings:
Divorce (not on page), child abandonment (not on page), parental reconciliation with child (on page), death of parents (character backstory)

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, I was not required to write a positive review.

This book was such a breath of fresh air. The setting, plot, characters, chemistry, and the tension!! Everything felt right thing at the right time.
One of my favourite parts about the story was how Kai and Mila realised their feelings for each other over time instead of already being secretly in love with each other from the beginning. This allowed them to explore and reflect upon their time spent together, their feelings, their responsibilities, and solidify that they are meant for each other.

Kai is such a sweetheart who is ready to help people around him with no expectations. Mila is also a very kind hearted person who wants the best for everyone. Noah’s jokes and comments were great comedic relief. I especially loved their communication throughout the book! There is nothing better than MCs communicating like mature adults rather than making false assumptions.

In a nutshell, my only regret would be not reading the series from the start so I could enjoy the side characters as well. Overall, this was such a nice story that felt like a nice hallmark movie in the middle of June on an island.

Run, don’t walk, to get your copy of this sweet romcom!
Savannah Scott has done it again. Book four in the Love Trippin’ series is yet another home run. Can I give it six stars? Each book in this series touches on some deep feelings. These romcoms are not just sweet and delicious, they’re meaty and heartily satisfying. Mila and Kai’s story will not disappoint. You will laugh out loud (like I did, on a full flight). Your heart will say “awww” as they work through some real conflict. And of course, every kiss gets better.
This fake-dating, single mom, he falls first, small town story will delight and inspire you. (Seriously, why can’t Marbella Island be a real place?) enjoy cameos from the stars of the previous Road Trippin’ series and get a sneak peek into meeting Stevens, the MMC in the next book in the series.

3.5 stars, rounded up to 4

this story was really cute, loved the concept of it. but it fell a bit short for me. it read very much YA, maybe even lower than that. not that we need all this spice in every romance, but just how the story was written read very young.

I wished there was more parts with Noah, the fmc's son, and more moments with the three of them together, fmc, mmc, and Noah. I felt like both characters went back and forth in their mind a lot and that felt very young, if that makes sense LOL I also wished there was more having to do with the surf shop and the bnb, I was some more fluff with both!

I just wanted more, I felt like it was missing stuff. feeling unsatisfied after reading this.

BUT, I think if you enjoy simple, quick, low romance romance books, then this book would be a perfect one for you!
